Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Good morning, all.

Got some decent sleep (though the cats cut it a little short) and am going on the "no news is good news" premise in assuming DS did as well. (Because of COVID protocols, they cannot have overnight visitors, but I can go back in at 9:30 this morning.)

Thank you again for all the prayers and well-wishes, and please keep them coming.

Good morning.

Beautiful cool morning. We are going to go for a hike in Fair Hill. Haven't been for a while due to heat and cicadas.

Finished the Longmire series on Netflix.
We are looking for a new one. What is this about?

Happy moment of my week was when I took a patient I originally wasn’t supposed to take and he wound up telling me the most amazing story about an experience he had had that had special meaning to me. I feel like it was somehow meant to be, and I was meant to hear that story at that moment, to sort of keep me going. I like when that happens!
That's the kind of thing that makes me feel God has a hand in it.

glad to see you are still with us..we seem to keep losing people off our post, nice to see some fairly new names and people posting!
I totally agree.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Hello all,
Many prayers for good outcomes on health concerns, especially Lynxstch and PollyannaMom.
I too, have been getting very nervous about the pandemic, I hope we can control it but I'm not sure.

We just got back from the vet dentist. If you remember our dog has a mass on his jaw. It is not cancer according to the Path. report.
The vet thought it would continue to grow but given his age [ 10years ] maybe we should just watch it. He was also concerned about one of his other teeth

Good Morning, friends

So good to see you, Allison! We’re here and care, anytime, my friend J Thank you for your church service. I well remember from my days of working at church camps how crazily chaotic the days leading up to and of any type of performance or final show can be!

Hug, Frog, so glad you joined us. Helping with a church Christmas play or pageant is one thing I look forward to being part of sometime post pandemic. The littlest children especially are so extra precious in their sheep costumes! I’d love to help encourage young voices to lift extra to God at Christmas this way. Either later today or for sure this weekend, I will put up the smallest section of green paper. I promise to post a picture.

Pea, how fun! I am so glad you got to enjoy a family reunion. I’m also concerned about the Delta variant. It’s raging out here :( Really seemed just last month we as a country had truly turned a huge corner in this plague. I continue to keep my faith and know no matter what God will see us through. Sounds like God provided you a gift via one of your patients a special story when you most needed to hear it.

I pray they hospital would allow you to visit at least once a day, Lynn! Hugs, my friend. Much continued prayer to your DH and you! Mickey’s cotton candy sure looks great!

Hugs to you, PollyannaMom and continuing prayer for healing for your DS!

Enjoy your hike, Carol :)

I am also so glad to hear your dog does not have cancer, DazedX3. Prayers for his health and good to see you post!

1 P.S. That I'm adding in as not to create a second post, do any of you have a picture of a sunrise? Thank you!

Good afternoon everyone.

I got excused from Food Distribution today because of all the work I did alone Tuesday and Wednesday. That worked out well because I could take Anthony to PT and then to get some equipment to protect his ankle when he gets back on the ball field. After hearing what happened to Bryce Harper in last nights Phillies game I'm glad I did. I also treated Anthony and his brothers to Duck Donuts since we were up that way. He liked them as did his Wyatt. Poor Ben was at the doctors as he wasn't feeling well. He's been sick since Tuesday with a fever and sore throat so most likely Strep again.

I need to vent today. My husband has diabetes. We live with it but he had a complication called Charcot Syndrome. He needed major surgery on his foot and now has to get specialized shoes that are made to order. The feet are casted and molds are made to make the shoes. This also helps prevent pressure ulcers which he is prone to and take forever to heal. I took him the beginning of June to get a new pair of shoes. He is allowed one pair a year per his insurance and it takes about 6 weeks to get them. I called today to find out when they would be in. They haven't even been ordered because of missing paper work. The primary dr. needs to fill it out. Well the primary dr. passed away, he has nothing at all to do with the diabetes or feet since he sees 2 specialists for that, and we can't even begin to figure out how to get a new primary. Add to it the specialists offices both said he doesn't need a primary with Medicare when I called them. I'm not sure I believe that.

My husband has been wearing the same pair of shoes for almost 2 years, clearing this up can take forever and it takes 6-8 weeks to get new shoes made and add to it he will probably need new casts made by time we do clear this all up. When I asked the office where he gets the shoes why we weren't informed of this I was told that's not their problem. If I hadn't called I wouldn't even have known there was an issue. I don't even know if the primary's office even got the paperwork because of the way our mail has been lately. One week I got no mail at all, the following week all the previous week's mail on one day and then again nothing. I am so angry and frustrated right now over PAPERWORK!!!

I am off to try and calm down enough to deal with this fiasco. Hope every one has a great afternoon.

Afternoon everyone..kind of warm at 84, but not at all muggy, so it's tolerable. Just got home, he's a little disappointed,,he doesn't feel like he's moving as fast as he thinks he should be. I reminded him that a week ago, he was barely out of bed, and could barely move his right leg at all. Now he's moving both of them. They put his sneakers on instead of slippers today, at my suggestion, and his feet had much more support. He is doing the 30 foot walking thing with the walker 3x, and he got out of the chair and to the walker with only a small assist 4x and managed to stand for 2 min at a stretch. I could see that his legs were much steadier than they had been. His arm is still sore, but I measured it yesterday with a tape measure and both his hand and wrist swelling has come down 1/2" each..and he's able to do some of the exercises with that arm, still not putting any weight on it. So I keep telling him, he has to do it a little at a time,,he can't rush it or he will undo any progress they have made.

Sister in law picked me up 4 heirloom tomatoes, a squash, a giant peach, and 2 ears of corn at the farmers market today, and niece baked me a dozen chocolate chip cookies , so they are taking good care of me!

Off to feed the furbabies,,the one that has been missing outside for 3 days showed up when I got home...hungry but otherwise okay..she must have been on a trip, lol!

Since I have some nice tomatoes, I am going to make a BLT for dinner..have been craving one lately, and will have corn with it. Summer supper sounds good to me!

Have a nice evening all!

Oh Taz Dev, huge hugs and prayers! :grouphug:💛

Thank you, Lynn so much. I should have said in my earlier post that the picture would have to be one that a fellow Quacker personally took not an internet found image. Prayers YOU and your DH are having a good afternoon! Your post snuck in above mine. Hug to your DH, I can understand his frustration. Your reminder to him is spot on! :) He has made a ton of progress already and as long as he is willing will continue to do so! One step and day at a time!

Hey y'all! @lynxstch I'm so glad your husband is getting better, and is able to move more! Soon he'll be back to chasing you around the dining room table. ;)

@tazdev3225 Sometimes Medicare and Insurance companies makes all the little rules just to mess with people, I swear. You might have to push a few buttons to get those shoes.

@PollyannaMom I hope your son gets better soon, and that the drs can figure out what the issue is. When DD#2 was about 8, she went through a couple years of cyclic vomiting (I think that's what it was called). After a few years, it all disappeared, as quickly as it came on.

I don't remember who fell when taking out the garbage, the other day, but I wanted to share, that you are not alone. I went to take our trash out about 6am (before DH left for work), and some people had left their bags on the steps. I had to move them to get up the steps, so I just went ahead and tossed them in the dumpster. Well, it's really dark in the dumpster area (the light is out), and I slipped in something that those bags left on the steps, and down I went. I landed with my right leg bent at the knee under me, on my right hip, but I was still facing forward, so all twisty. Scraped the heck out of my calf (and I was going to shave today too, darn it); my hip is sore, and I tweaked my back on the left side. I did NOT walk today (I was supposed to) because I can barely move. :(

Oh, and DS news!!!

So, DS has decided that he didn't want to back to in person school, which is fine with us. He was going to do some classes over the summer, so his senior year class load would be easier, but instead he is taking 2-3 AutoCAD online classes, aalong with his last 5 needed classes during the year, via online school. He knows some AutoCAD stuff, but not enough to actually work in it. (and he's got DH to help him if he gets stuck on the classes)

Then in November, he is going to go to work where DH works, as a intern drafter! The company pays $15 a hour for their interns, and interns do not have to have a degree to be hired. DH's boss asked DH about DS doing some of the grunt work as an intern at the beginning of the summer, but they have to wait until after he turns 18 (which is at the beginning of October).

The incoming interns usually start in November, so DS will just start then. He will get to do some basic drawings. (that will be supervised by a senior drafter), stapling, running errands, etc. It wil be part time, and just grunt work; but he can start a 401K immediately after 90 days. He will drive in with DH, and he can bring DH's laptop and do his schoolwork when he's done and waiting for DH to get off work. Then the next October, they can continue with him as a baby drafter or he can leave (it's a 11 month contract). If he's hired on, then they start matching the 401K (at percentages), insurance, vacation, etc, will all kick in.

This will be good for him, get him a 401K started early, while he lives at home and has no bills (other than video games and junk food). If he decides he likes this career, he can go to college and work part time there, as long as he does a good job; and if he decides to take drafting/designer/engineer classes, they pay part of the tuition, depending on the grade. (90%= 90% tuition, 80% = 80%, down to 60=60%). Plus, it's a nationwide company (always in Fortune 500 top companies to work for), so he could go to school and work anywhere.

He wanted to take a year or two off after high school, and we told him that was fine, but he needed to find a job. This opportunity came up, and he decided he'd rather work at a computer, indoors, in a/c, without a hot grill or fry station to deal with, and no customers, just senior designers. The company (well, the whole industry, really) is still reeling from the housing bubble crash back in 2009 (?). A lot of drafters/designers changed careers, and there is a big shortage of good drafters/designers. They are hitting all the high schools for freshman orientation, trying to get them into the drafting/design/engineer 'colleges' early. ('colleges' being the programs that the high school offers, to get kids into professions with certifications right out of high school. Early childhood development, for daycare workers; drafting/designing; IT are some of the ones they offer.)

So yeah, DS making some grown up decisions about his future. I miss that little tow-headed boy who would climb onto my lap, half asleep, and ask for 'choco milk mama'...but I'm so proud of the man he is becoming.

I would love it if he could just walk normally again, never mind chase me..lol!

It was me who fell yesterday taking out the trash..but it sounds like your fall was much worse than mine :( I just have 2 bruises,,and the back of my right leg is very sore when going up or down stairs..trying to take it easy for a couple of days. I hope you feel better soon!

Hello! I'm still here, even though I haven't posted.
Good to see you!

The Covid (Delta variant) cases coming back have me on edge. Especially in people who are vaccinated.
Me too! I have a friend whose DH is in the hospital with Covid and he is vaccinated. Don't know if he has the new variant or not.

@Breezy_Carol, Longmire is about a sheriff in Wyoming or Montana, somewhere up there. You would think that after six seasons I would know. 😄 I enjoyed watching it. It's on Netflix.

@TazDev, prayers that you'll be able to get this all figured out.

@Bianca and Bernard, congratulations to you DS! That's great!

I made a big effort and got into bed earlier last night and felt much better getting up this morning. Now to keep doing that and getting there earlier tonight. I am pretty tired right now but it's about time to start dinner so I'll work through it. Dinner, by the way, is not much, just grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup.

Worked in the office some today and went grocery shopping. Talked to a friend about her trip and one of DH's brothers stopped by for a little while. It was nice to see him.

We're expecting triple digit heat next week. I had hoped to get through July without any but not having it till the end of the month is better than nothing.

Being bored is indeed a positive step for your son, PollyannaMom! Continued prayers, my friend. I hope all of you sleep well tonight. What a beautiful snowy scene! I LOVE how you caught the reflection of light. May I use it in my story for the book? Thank you so much for sharing!

B&B, what a scary time for an 8 year old (and her parents) to go through! So glad that stopped! Huge hug and I am so sorry about your fall. PLEASE take care, friend. Wow, go your DS. Proud of him from afar.

Wow, thank you so much Carol for all the lovely beach-y pictures! I especially do love the sideways one. I was able to save it so it opens right side up. That the sunrise is over water and PollyannaMom’s sunrise is over snow is exactly perfect because the story I would use them in shares about a lunch I had with two of God’s Heavenly Angels during a time of health storm. I do refer to water in the text. May I also use one of your photos for this story? I will email you both (and any other Quacker interested)the completed story with pictures so you can see how it came together.

Grilled cheese (kid-style for me, though) is a staple favorite here, Kirby. Sometimes, especially in the HEAT, a simple meal often is the best way to go both for how it settles and comfort. Keep cool!

Here are two pictures of the completed smallest section of my bedroom wall! Carol, you were so right that the green really is both calming and relaxing. That space already feels lighter and refreshed! The middle section will be next possibly over the weekend. Thank you all for your suggestions and encouragement on this project!

Those are nice, @Breezy_Carol. I looked for a few I had from our cruises but I can’t access those pictures right now, I think they must be on discs or an external hard drive, and we don’t have a working computer in the house!

@flyingdumbo123, @PollyannaMom and @lynxstch Glad things are going in the right direction medically.

@Bianca and Bernard What a wonderful projectory for your DS! It sounds perfect for him! It’s really nice that there is an online option for HS kids today. I probably would’ve done it myself had it been an option for me back then. It’s funny how sometimes things just fall into place pretty seamlessly.

It happened to DD recently, too. I forgot to say before that she was accepted into graduate school this week and will start her classes in the fall. For Nursing. She sees how difficult hospital nursing is and decided that while she doesn’t have a lot going on besides working right now, she should start. One relatively simple inquiry into something she’s interested in prompted her to enroll. So it all happened pretty quickly, too. I’m glad, as it will increase her job options in the future whether she stays in the hospital or moves on.

Sorry to read about falls, that’s how DH herniated discs in his back.

@TazDev Hope you can get the shoes straightened out. What aggravation!

@Dazed Very happy to read about your dog! So nice to get good news for a change, isn’t it?

Yes, the Covid news here in MA is pretty dismal despite our having one of the highest vaccination rates in the country. There was a big outbreak in Provincetown (on Cape Cod) after 4th of July festivities. Only a third or so of the people who tested positive were from there, and a few more locally, the rest were from out of state, and took it home with them. Many had very mild symptoms, like a cold. Hospital and ventilation cases are going up when they were so low, and over the next several weeks things may only escalate. Talking to people about it now causes friction because most of those who’ve wanted to get vaccinated have already gotten their shots, and the rest still don’t want it. Everyone, it seems, is angry. 🤯 More questions about Covid remain than can be answered. So little hope that vaccination efforts will improve. The only good news I see is that those vaccinated or with natural immunity seem to have some level of protection from serious illness, hospitalization and death, but it’s not foolproof. A close friend of mine with long covid is now experiencing some serious symptoms for which she’s going to have to see a specialist. I think we can all agree it’s just so sad to see us going back to things like masks and closures again. Our governor says we won’t, but things can change in the course of a few weeks, so who knows. I always loved reading the news, and still do (I do that more than I watch TV), but it is becoming increasingly difficult to digest. I guess all we can do is take it one day at a time, and hope all of our loved ones remain safe. We’ve had three recent losses already, I don’t want any more.
