Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Good day everyone.
Slow and steady rain here today, no complaints from me. Looks like the weekend may be half decent at least -
Ladd continued to be under the influence of the sedation meds for the remainder of the afternoon & evening yesterday. They also made his stomach upset and he threw up several times...I was a bit worried he might be dehydrated but this morning he seems more himself. He stayed inside today, enjoying a quiet, dark sleepy day and watching Star Trek TNG.

We are using them as end tables in the living room as they were exactly the size we needed-

Those are nice! I don't think I've ever been in a Ollies, I'll have to keep my eye open for one.
😆
There were small ponies in our front yard this morning. DH herded them into our neighbors field next door to wait for animal control

My husband would have contemplated how he could have herded them into our barn!! Glad they made their way home....as someone who suffered a few breakouts from our horses years ago - that is a huge pain in the butt!

QOTD:--Do you get the paper delivered anymore, or just read it digitally? And do you have or get many magazine subscriptions?

I don't get it delivered, but I do pick it up every Thursday morning, or Fridays if-like this week- I forgot on Thursday! Our local little paper only comes out once per week. I subscribe to National Geographic and a Archeology magazine, although I may not renew the latter. I did at one time have a WSJ online subscription but I let that lapse, I should renew. But I didn't check it as often as I thought I would when I had it.

Dinner is a big, fat unknown at this time. I'll drum up something I am sure....no plans of any great excitement this weekend. Might put off mowing until Sunday so everything can dry out a bit- we will see. Gonna get crabs tomorrow afternoon I think. I've been having a bit of a "purge moment" and right now my entire dining room table is filled with odds & ends - platters, decorative items, that stuff I thought I wanted/needed/should keep. Whatever my son & girlfriend want for new house they can have, everything else is goinggoinggone.

UPDATE: I marinated chicken thighs for about 10 hours in pickle juice. Then grilled. They turned out really good, but I think we are goign to marinate for 24 hours next and use breast or skinless thighs next time.

Happy Friday....I've finally had some motivation to get stuff done. I've cleaned up and organized all the front part of the house bookshelves and cabinets...I even washed walls yesterday. :thumbsup2 Thats a lot for me.... It looked so nice yesterday after I dusted and de-dog haired everything...by evening everything(well not everything...lol) was covered in dog hair again. :headache: Two giant German Shepherds make it hard to keep things dog hair free....they will definitely need to be groomed before the celebration so the dog hair will be minimal then.

Hubby got home yesterday from being gone two weeks and I offered to work for my old boss this afternoon, so I'll be back later to catch up on the QOTDs I missed.

QOTD:--Do you get the paper delivered anymore, or just read it digitally? And do you have or get many magazine subscriptions?
We receive three "free" magazines, AARP, Costco and Texas Co-op Power which comes from the electrical co-op that we are in. The only newspaper we get is from AARP and we rarely read it. DH gets his news from his phone and I get mine from tv in the morning while I walk on my treadmill.

Woke up to a bright, sunny, humid day. Temps in the 90's for the next 10 days. A little warm for this early in June, hope it doesn't lead to a broiling July and August.

Went to Kroger today for weekly groceries and noticed that they are moving stuff around again. I also noticed new brands in some of the canned goods. Guess I will have to try them out if the price is right.
Already done my vacuuming for the week and cleaned my bathroom. I should work in the office but we'll see what I end up doing. I need to pay bills too. I'd rather read my book, I've started a new one, She Was The Quiet One by Michele Campbell. It's genre is mystery.

Rain had stopped, but started again. The only thing I did today as far as cleaning was to vacuum all the rooms. Walked around outside the house while the rain had stopped. Cicada's are hanging on chairs, on the cars tires, on the foundation of the house. Lots of dead ones around..so they must have laid their eggs and passed on. Hubby is napping again, it's a good day for it. I watched General Hospital and am trying to find a movie to watch. Dinner is going to be seafood salad over a tossed salad, with fresh fruit and cottage cheese on the side. Hubby is trying to lose a few pounds, so I am suffering along with him..lol
Have a nice rest of the afternoon

She Was The Quiet One by Michele Campbell. I read that and the one “ it’s always they husband”. Great books. thanks for reminding me about that author, I’ll look at her other books to take one to the beach this summer

QOTD:--Do you get the paper delivered anymore, or just read it digitally? And do you have or get many magazine subscriptions?
Yes, I get the local paper delivered, just like my parents do a state away. I use to only get it fri, sat, or sun till a cute little old German man came around the neighborhood and convinced me for just a few pennies more to get it all week. I use to read it every morning at breakfast with the kids and sharing the sports page. This past year, i have been too busy to read before work and often have a stack of several days by Friday. But, I enjoy reading about local people’s businesses that i then try to support.
magazines - Reader’s digest , free from a friend’s subscription
use to get Real Simple and Women’s Health years ago, then didn’t renew
hubby gets National Geographic which has some good articles

WDW Magazine is wonderful, I don’t know the price, they have a digital version, but the one that comes in the mail has beautiful photos and fun articles too. It was a great gift given to us this year. Some are ride photos, other hotels, grounds, etc. great for the Disney lover

Good Saturday morning! Rained overnite again, calling for 80 and sun. Hope it dries out enough today to mow, as they say it will pour all day tomorrow. If not, it will wait till Monday. I could use another day of 'not many chores', lol.

The cicada's seem to be slowing down, or at least they aren't all in the trees, lots of dead ones on the ground, hanging on chairs, plants etc. So tired of them already.

I plan to change the sheets later and wash the other ones, can't hang out to dry until the bugs are gone. I strolled by the garden yesterday and the rain has really made the cuke and squash seeds pop up, and the tomatoes are growing bigger by the day.

Have a nice morning!

Good day to you all. Finding myself with a gloomy day outside, not raining, not warm, not cold, not sunny...just blah. Have done a bit of straightening up and whatnot.
Washing machine on the blink, but we were able to diagnose the issue and order the part, which should be here Monday. I have a small apartment / boat sized washer & dryer next door in the in-law suite so I'll use that if needed.
Took a small leg of lamb out of the freezer for dinner tomorrow evening.

DD and I went to the local farmers market today. It rained this morning so all the vendors didn't get set up as early as normal so we arrived not long after it opened. The temp outside was wonderful! I picked up an iced coffee from a vendor, jerky for DH and some cranberry, honey, pecan bread. I toasted a slice when we got home and it was delicious! We also didn't buy vegetables at Kroger so between the two of us we got a watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, brussel sprouts, okra, yellow squash, zucchini and two different sizes of tomatoes. We had taken a small stroller for our purchases but Lou Lou decided she wanted to sit in it so she ended up having to hold the watermelon on the way to the car.581634

@Breezy_Carol, thank you so much for your mentioning that pineapple corer. I ordered it and DD used it this morning. We both give it a thumbs up. I've already decided that my future DIL will be getting one for Christmas!

I guess I need to get to work doing some chores like laundry and changing the sheets on my bed. I also need to go through DH's medicine cabinet. I know he has stuff that has been there for years!

Bed was stripped and remade before 5 am. Sheets and mattress cover were washed and dried by 6. Other load of laundry done by 6:30. Took a nap, watched a show, and made lunch. Just went out and mowed the whole lawn. Temp is 82 but a few clouds here and there. The cicada's are just awful today. There are so many of them. I thought they were dying off,,but not from the amount that flew out of every bush, tree, plant, and flower I brushed with the mower. I was so ticked. The old lady behind us has a row of hedges that back the end of our back lawn. My hubby used to trim them when he could. He can no longer do it, and I can't as there is honeysuckle and poison ivy in it, which I am allergic to. She needs to have someone cut them down..seriously. I am going to take a picture of them and put it on here so you can see how tall they are..there is even a tree growing in there which is now entangled in HER electric line. Anyhow..I was mowing under the ones sticking on our side, to get the tall grass down,,and one of the wheels must have hit a bush and knocked the wheel height thing up to 4...I normally mow on 2. Well I was half way done with the back yard, when I thought 'why can't I tell where I mowed, and why is the grass so high"? That's when I noticed the wheel height was off. I readjusted it and mowed the whole back again. Now I quit and am off to take a long cool bath and do my hair. Dinner tonite is going to be burgers and something, not sure what..maybe watermelon.
@Kirby..I am jealous of all the stuff you can get at your farmers market already..all they have at ours is lettuce, spinach, green onions and plants, lol!

Lets see if the pics work without being sideways..these are supposed to be hedges that she's not supposed to let get more than 4 feet tall...and there isn't supposed to be a tree (2) in there!--nope..even though I made them smaller, they are still sideways..so turn your head to look at them, lol!!!20210612_145553.jpg20210612_145559.jpg

Good afternoon all.

Had a busy day yesterday and then did some running around today. My cats will NOT eat their treats so I had to get them the kind they will eat. I left the handful for the 2 of them on the counter for over a day and they responded by knocking it to the floor for the dog. They are spoiled. I also tried to find my eyedrops that used to be a prescription and are now over the counter. My eyes were so itchy this morning that I scratched my eyelid open. Of course now that the drops are over the counter they are impossible to find.

Ben's graduation was great. He mumbled through most of it but when it came time for the dance he was really into it. The theme was Aloha and my daughter dressed him in a Hawaiin Print shirt not knowing it. Here's a couple pics of
Ben coming in

While running my errands I stopped at a store my daughter recommended and found this

I don't carry handbags that often but I couldn't pass up a Dooney & Bourke bag marked down to $100. And we are taking LJ to his 1st Phillies game tomorrow. I can use some if the designs to help with the sign I have to make to try and get him on TV. My husband is crazy. The bag will be nice for traveling and games though. It's big enough to put a couple waters in and some snacks plus hold my camera and extra battery. I saw it in the store last year for close to $300 so I think I got a good deal anyway.

I am off to try and figure out the sign. Hope everyone has a great afternoon.

Good afternoon.

It cleared off and warmed up since this morning, and the cicadas are singing.

We got up this morning and got out by 9:15 to go to Longwood Gardens. DD and her family renewed their membership so we all met there. Some sections that weren't open before are open now., like the Children's Garden in the conservatory. The littles really liked that. Watched two different fountains shows and walked the flower path before leaving for lunch. Went to Two Stones Pub nearby and got a nice table outside. Very nice meal. And it was all almost like before the pandemic.

Drove home by way of our favorite Amish furniture store just to browse.. And got strawberries along the way. Dinner tonight will be hot dog and hamburger on the grill with deviled eggs. Then ice cream and strawberries.

thank you so much for your mentioning that pineapple corer. I ordered it and DD used it this morning. We both give it a thumbs up.
I am so glad it worked out for you.

The old lady behind us has a row of hedges that back the end of our back lawn.
The people behind us planted a row of spruce trees between their pool and our fence. An old tree came down between their trees and our fence and it's a mess. There is poison ivy all over it. DH can no longer get behind the fence to mow. I don't think the neighbors are even aware. They have a lawn care company so the home owners are never out there. Before the tree fell, we talked to them about having it taken down before it fell, which they didn't do. Luckily when it did fall, it didn't damage the fence.

Have texted some with DS. He is in Brussels, Belgium for work. Today is an off day so he is sending some pictures.

I have a question I hope my Quacker family can answer. At stores like Rite Aid or Walmart over by the rolls of wrapping paper, most places also have the little square-shaped cards with different designs on the front. The cards come with a white envelope. Does anyone know what such cards would be called so I could look them up on Amazon? Dad will be going to a Rite Aid this week and I can have him look in person. I must thought I could try online as well. Thank you, friends :) ETA: Little Cards I found this link to what I mean. They are the little square cards under the hanging curly ribbon in this picture.

Aw, what a cute Lulu picture, Kirby. She has a great smile.

Such pretty greenery, Lynn. Yuck to poison ivy! Be careful of that for sure. You rest now!

God Bless and congratulations to Ben, Taz Dev! Thank you for sharing such fun and happy pictures with us.

I love that Longwood has a children’s garden, Carol, that sounds lovely for kids. Prayers always for your DS.

Wishing all of you a bright rest of the day.
