That made me in a Disney kind of mood, so maybe I can think of another good Disney story. I hope others will continue to share theirs, too!
@Sweetpeamama, I, too, am amazed at the amount of detail you can remember from so long ago! I also think it’s great your extended family was close that way, that you could stay at their houses and visit so many on your family’s journey. That’s really nice.
We took a trip in January of 2005. They had literally just come out with the “new” Magic Your Way Disney Dining Plans and the Extra Magic Hours the week we were there. Our kids were about 7 at the time. The dining plan was $35 per adult and only $10 per child. So for $90 a day we got a lot - two meals, two snacks, and I think a refillable mug. The sit down meal then included an appetizer, dessert (as did the quick service meal) and the TIP! DH was in seventh heaven but I was a little worried about how much food we were eating!

I don’t think we even used any snack credits, but we filled up a bag with Mickey rice crispy treats to take home and disperse to family and friends! (I have since come to buy one of those on every trip as I probably never would’ve bought one but learned to love them after that. It’s one of those things that scream “Disney” to me!) So that was fun. It also happened to be really cold and pretty much dead at HS the evening we were there, so we got to ride RnRC and ToT each seven times in a row! We were on the last ride of the night on RnRC. They asked us if we wanted to ride again when we pulled up at the end, and of course we said YES, so they walked us right through that little doorway and out to the other side where the ride entry is, and we rode it all by ourselves on the last ride. Very sweet night!
I hesitated to do the Dining Plan on later trips because it was so much food! But sometimes it worked out better from a financial standpoint to have the plan, so we did it, but DH had to agree to get a piece of fruit for one of his desserts, and not have chocolate cake twice a day every day!

He did so grudgingly, lol. We also got to experience a lot of restaurants we probably wouldn’t have otherwise gone to, and we really enjoyed that. We do have our favorites, but like to try different places, too. We don’t get the Dining Plan anymore, but that was fun while it lasted. Little by little, prices went up and things got taken away. Plus once our kids hit age 10 they were full price. We never say never, but it’s unlikely we’ll get it again. What I do do, though, is to purchase a large Disney gift card that we use for dining, and I usually give the kids their own, too, for birthdays and Christmas, especially if we have a trip coming up, that way they can get what they want and use it around WS if we’re at one of the festivals. It’s the first time in a long time we don’t have a trip in the works, and it feels strange. I may have to book something just to have it, and to have something to look forward to.
