My brother had marks on a kitchen wall for the growth of both of his kids. When they moved after the kids were grown, he managed to cut the drywall out and replace it without his wife finding out. Then he had it framed and hung in their new home.

I remember the kitchen where he and I grew up and the marks on the wall. For whatever reason, we didn't do that with our kids.

Awww that was such a sweet thing for him to do for his wife. He must be sentimental too!

Lol, that is great that your brother pulled off that surprise, Carol :)

Here it is hot and more so humid! Really feel the extra warmth due to humidity. So grateful for air conditioning!

Sparkle, are you trying to have costumes to announce a new baby? You could have the Mom wear a T shirt with Mickey or Minnie and then a blank box (to be checked) when the gender is revealed either at birth or before. Trying to think of a Disney theme, of course :) I'm glad you have something positive and fun to think about :)

@Breezy_Carol What an adorable squirrel photo! 🐿
Today I am using the banana bread recipe you kindly posted to the thread. It's always nice to do a bit of baking.

My 4 yo granddaughter decided to trim her bangs yesterday. Results...as expected. She promised to only cut her paper in the future. Hair will grow back. 😊

Hope everyone has a nice Monday. 🌺

Lol to Sam the Squirrel! :) I do have a story of how a squirrel would visit the patio of a friend of my dad's. George had a sliding glass door that led out onto a common area of sorts-- but mostly private to him, small concrete with small patch of garden space. Champ was buried in this garden that George, my dad, and I planted. A squirrel who George had befriended with peanuts would often stand outside George's sliding glass door waiting for a treat! We did take a picture of this at one time but sadly no longer have it :( George did also say the same squirrel would often stop and pay his respects to Champ's marker because it would stand quietly there just looking. It would never run into the flowers. Thank you, Carol, for that memory and funny photo! :) Champ my dog and the squirrel by now--so many years later I would think unless squirrels live a long life, have met in Heaven. I'll have to think about if I need a squirrel picture! Maybe I do now! :squirrel:

Thank you so much dear Carol for remembering that someone (me) did ask for some photos. I sincerely appreciate that and you!

I do need some photos still indeed.

One of a 🐑 Actually, I need a baby lamb photo. Should any of you have a photo of your child or grandchild dressed up as a lamb perhaps for a church Christmas pageant that would be awesome! OR if anyone has a picture of a live Nativity including a lamb that could work, as well! I know I could Google for either but the issue there is having to get permission from the permission who originally took the photo to use it. I am not able to use pictures taken from my own church.

The other church related picture is if anyone has a photo of a Holy Communion Table at their church. I just need a simple loaf of bread, Cup, along with some grapes (or as we use cans of grape juice)to show the elements.

Lastly, and this is harder because it might require permission from the stuffed animal maker unless any of you are artists! I need a picture of a medium size stuffed teddy bear (ideally white because it was in real life but any color is fine) standing up and wearing a child's pair of black patent leather shoes! This is meant to show how one day a clever preschooler at nap time who just wanted to go outside! Decided if she was not able to put her own shoes on then to go out, maybe her teddy bear could and then if he could go out, surely she could follow! Precious moment!

ETA one last picture request because I realize I probably did lose my own copy of it :( I don't suppose any of you ever took a picture of the word Love skywritten? I had one from a light blue, clear puffy cloud sky! Would have been perfect. I don't think I have that anymore though will keep looking. I also one time on my way to Disneyland saw a Cross sky-written but never did get a very clear photo of that because it was right at the Harbor exit (I was a passenger don't worry)

Hair indeed will grow back, Gwynne! Maybe your grand daughter could trim the back of my hair? :D It sounds like she understands paper is better to cut than her own hair. I do think a lot of kids are apt to try that! Can make for a funny memory.

Happy Monday to all :)

Hope everyone is having a nice Monday. It's sunny, breezy and 83 here currently. 90's coming back tomorrow and Wed, then low 80's for the next 2 weeks, or so they say. I got all the mowing and laundry done today, cleaned the gutters of leaves (our black walnut trees are already losing their leaves, way too early!). I am waiting for my Autumn Joy Sedum plants to turn full color, so I can post a picture of them on here for the fall scavanger hunt. I think I am going to make that Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Pie that was shared on here a while ago. I am in the mood for something sweet like that!

@gwynne , let me know how the bread turns out.

That squirrel gets completely inside the feeder. I waited until he came out to take his picture. I wish he'd leave some for the birds. And speaking of which, a local friend posted that hummingbirds were back. (They stop on their way through while migrating.) So I put out my feeder and have seen several.

@PollyannaMom, I LOVE that growth chart! What a sweet idea! We have a space/rocket ship one hanging in Josh's room, that I mark with a silver Sharpie whenever I think that Josh has grown a bit. I don't check on a schedule, though, just randomly whenever it looks like he's grown. He usually only grows about an inch per year (although this year he shot up 2.5 inches!).

We've officially broken a weather record here - 40 days of over 90-degree heat. Hottest summer on record. AC is back on and it still feels hot. And only 3 inches of rain since June 1st. Earlier today the rain clouds moved in and it was thundering, but we didn't get any rain at all. Sun is back out, shining brightly.

My mom leaves Illinois tomorrow and we'll expect her home around late evening. She's had it with my uncle.

I have not been in the best mood lately. Yesterday I kicked DH and Josh out (for the day). Just had too many things to do and couldn't take what they were dishing out. And now it's also hitting me that Josh starts school in 2 weeks and I'm stressing badly. The principal of his school sent an email that we'll get information this week about picking up an iPad, how to sign into Microsoft Teams (for distance learning), and that kindergartners will get a "virtual orientation." Um, how is that going to work? I know my kid...he's not going to know what to do and where to go unless he actually goes to the school and sees it for himself. I really hope they will have plenty of adults around to guide them.

It also occurred to me that it's unlikely that photos will be done at school this year, as they are not allowing visitors. If parents can't even come to the school, I doubt they'll allow a photographer. So I've decided that when the colors change (mid-October here), we'll take Josh up to the Ludlow Reservoir and take some of my own photos. DH and I went on our 2nd anniversary (October 15th) and the colors were so beautiful and vibrant. I might have to go back to Michaels for some signs and props!

Not sure about Halloween around here either. A poll on the town open forum shows that many people are planning on handing out candy, but not taking their kids out themselves. Josh has finally decided that we are going to be Star Trek The Next Generation this year. I get to be Dr. Crusher (because I have red hair like her), he will be Data, and DH gets to be Commander Riker because he already looks exactly like Jonathan Frakes. (Seriously...when DH and I were dating, I happened to be watching an episode at home one night, and my mom walked in when Riker was on screen. I pointed him out to her and she said, "Oh my...that's quite the resemblance, isn't it?" ;) )

Its 100° today with no humidity(hallelujah!) so it is a cool down from last week. I'm getting ready to take DD's car over to the dealer because her AC isn't working right and we just had it replaced in July.... its going to be a hot drive across town.

Hubby left yesterday back to SSF. This project just keeps dragging on....he's over it, I'm over it. LoL We're really hoping he's done this week. He'll be working in LA next so close enough to drive home everyday or at least just stay one or two nights and week.

I got a new tablecloth for the dining room table and my sister said its a good fall tablecloth so I guess that's what it is then, even though I wanted something for in between my festive ones. My centerpiece right now is a fake succulent wreath with a real one in the middle. I'll have to get something more fall like though....

@apirateslifeforme hopefully they do school pics for you. I know in our district the kids are completely virtual learning but I know they did pics for the older kids when they went in to pick up their chromebooks and computers, not sure about elementary though. My niece just turned 5 and is startig virtual kinder in San Diego next week....feel so bad she can't actually go to school yet. My sister doesn't know how she's gonna do it, she's working from home and BIL works graveyard so he sleeps during the day. :confused3

ETA....forgot to edit my pics so they weren't sideways. Ugh...

@gwynne, glad you liked it.

@AuntieMe3 , that tablecloth looks Pennsylvania Dutch.

About school photos, DGD's daycare will not be doing pictures. And DD didn't get the professional hospital baby pictures of DGS. So, she booked a fall mini-session with a local professional photographer. They'll be done outside somewhere.

Dinner was chicken stir fry and rice. I stopped at the grocery store after PT and picked up produce and milk. And while walking by the ice cream, two cartons of Ben and Jerry's jumped into my cart. Two pints for $5, a steal.

I am so happy the hideous noise from workers in the building next door (in an apartment directly across from mine) has stopped for the day anyway. It was such a racket. No clue what they are doing over there either over the last month (at least).

I am also so thankful like AuntieMe3, shared today did not have yesterday's humidity. Humidity and TMJ do not mix!

:) Glad you enjoyed your bread, Gwynne.

Extra hugs and prayer to all with young children in their life right now and your kiddos too. What a tough time. Prayers you all get some pictures in some way. Great idea, apirateslifeforme, to go take your own in Autumn scenery especially that maybe you added to from Michaels :)

Carol, enjoy every spoonful of your ice cream!

We haven't had a QOTD in a while. This may have been asked before or in other ways but thought it might bring all a smile to think about if even again. QOTD for Monday, 8/24: Do you still have a favorite stuffed animal from your childhood? Do your kids have one of theirs?

I have both a rabbit (Minty) and dog (Benjy) along with a stuffed animal lamb named Lammie. Yes, spelled with double m's and no b. Why? Probably because as a kid I wanted m&m's :D I also thought double m's looked better than an "m" "b." I will be passing Lammie the lamb onto a friend hopefully when I am not far from where she lives after my next teeth cleaning. She (the lamb) will be making it into the very story I want a real lamb's picture for, too. How about you? 🧸 perhaps? Or other stuffed friend that has brought you love and cheer over your life?
