Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

My DH is prone to tech talking us to death. Early in our dating life we were out for the evening and he actually began discussing with me the various types of lights we encountered -- now those are sodium vapor lights, etc. I often tell him I have no idea how he thought that was possibly going to woo me ... or how it's possible I said yes to the next date, and the next.

That type of tech talk gets him many, many responses of no, Dad, just no from our daughters. I have active resentment for the show How It's Made.

You described our eldest son to a tee. His wife and 2Dds 'enjoy' the same banter... My Dh and I created this darling man's passion by giving him a book titled 'How it works' when he was young.

Today I lost out on self care time because it was my work day. We opened the store and there was a race of people to the TP, 😒 Yeesh! Plus for some reason my toy section was being hit HARD. Saw way too many full families of six or more people out. Work kind of kills me so when I got home I picked up Animal crossing and fell asleep holding the Nintendo Switch. Hubs was kind enough to take it from my sleeping body and put it back. I just now got up. 😃

Self care now is getting some foodstuffs in me. I did engage in some shopping therapy from home now that my comic con is axed. Bought two nice Canada exclusive variant covers, then bought a full actual comic page directly from the artist collective site. So instead of me buying a bunch of doofy stuff from a convention I have an actual real drawing used in production of the comic! That's cheering me up quite a bit!

Everyday self care: No more alarm clock! We always wake by 7:30 (that's actually late for us) but it's SO nice to not have the alarm going off at 5:40am! We are also taking long afternoon walks together. It's a bit brisk here in Maine, still, so I wear a full set of thermal underwear under my jeans, sweater, and winter coat (and hat and gloves...). I warm up along the way, but if the wind picks up it gets chilly again. It's nice to be outdoors though, and to have time with DH. We both work in academia so are working from home right now for the most part, although we can go into our respective labs as long as we are working alone, if it's really necessary. I have all my grading, notes, etc. here at home with me and fully intend to respect the "don't come in" directive from the chancellor's office!

Supper tonight was leftovers. I had 2 scallops from last weekend (and still good!) and a slice of turnip, and DH had a grilled corned beef sandwich and bowl of veggie-beef soup I made last weekend. I really should freeze the remaining soup and make something else... maybe tomorrow!

Question of the day: 3/21: what's your self care for resetting?? What will you do for you today?
Today, I used one of those foot peel treatments. I‘ve been wanting to try one, so I figured now is as good a time as any.

I also ordered a bunch of wax melts from Magic Candle Company. If I can’t be at Disney, I can at least smell Disney. Floridian is my favorite, so I got more of that, and I am trying Splash, Flying Over Figi, and Pineapple Whip. I ordered some stuff from Basin too for some at-home spa time.

Mine Train, Haunted and Philharmonic Champagne are my favorite scents!

I didn't get back here yesterday. I need to walk outside daily. The several days that I did get out for a 2-3 mile walk, I felt so much better, physically and emotionally. We have a State Park near us with acres of trails so even if the parking lot is full you I can social distance. Unfortunately, the weather is not always favorable.

Someone, I think Tina, posted about people putting up cartoons and pictures in windows to entertain walkers. In Delaware they are promoting this on Thursday 3/26. This Thursday I am asking all of Delaware's children (and those young at heart) to step out of their houses with a handful of chalk. I want you to write inspiring messages or draw pretty pictures on your sidewalk or driveways! Then take a walk with your family to see the messages that people have left you. Let's bring joy and hope to our neighbors while being responsible! Even though I am in Maryland, I shared this to my neighborhood FB group and hopefully we will do it too.

Yesterday DH went to "visit" his mother in assisted living. He stood outside her first floor window and spoke by phone. Then he stopped at the store and got bread and bananas and lunch meat. No eggs. Was able to get them at the local convenience store.

Have to hook up the laptop to the TV now for church. Have a good Sunday.

Today I got out a stack of blank cards and left them on the kitchen counter. Decided I will send out some cards every Saturday. Hopefully, it will cheer people up to get mail.
:lovestruc This is a lovely idea! We're just home from vacation and have been doing nothing really but "self-caring" for a week. It's time to feel like we're doing something productive again. We volunteer and serve in several capacities regularly and are going to be at loose ends now that such activities are curtailed. I want to reach out somehow and try to shine even a little light into the situation - people's hearts seem so troubled. I'm going to steal your idea. I'm not generally an overly-sentimental person but there sure are many people in my life that don't get told enough how important they are to me. Now is a great time for it.

Yesterday, Saturday, we tried our best to make it as close to a normal Saturday as we could. I made a nice brunch- ham and cheese omelettes with a side salad and mini whole wheat bagels. We enjoyed leisurely cups of tea/coffee. Although it wasn’t personal self care, we cleaned out and organized our toy and game closet in our basement (definitely a work in progress) which felt good to get done. I would have loved to have gone for a walk but it was very cold here. We FaceTimed with my son and daughter, had a nice simple dinner. We played a 3 hour game Monopoly for the first time in years. :)

We've enjoyed a late breakfast, and I'm going to clean up the kitchen then I think I will take one of the dogs for a walk. After that - more yard work! Looking like a on & off rainy week in our area, so we are trying to get as much done on the decent days as we can.
Might even have a small bonfire later this afternoon.

Like @Breezy_Carol, I took a solitary early morning walk. For me it was Fort Tryon Park at the top of Manhattan, a hilly cliff with amazing foliage filled views of the sailboats of Hudson River, Jersey's Palisades, and the Cloisters. I love this part of the city that so few see. Did some stretches then walked back home to the just waking household people.

DGD is spending the weekend with her mother's side of the family. She is no longer allowed to ride the subway solo (too deserted) so the man took her and then visited one of his friends who has become a bit of a recluse of late:(. Sent the man w/ some of my Italian casserole dishes out of the freezer for Bob and at least we know he has something to eat. I happen to know Bob's stove is a storage unit for magazines (nothing like a bachelor to use spaces in new ways:lmao:) so good thing I slab wrapped some of the casseroles in plastic. Now he'll be able to nuke and eat.

I reorganized the bookcases yesterday afternoon. Fascinating, right? LOL.
Hopefully, I'm prepared for the lock-down, mentally, physically, and spiritually. My son (DGD's father) keeps sending me texts that tell, us oldsters, to stay at home since apparently he thinks I might forget...

As the grrlie wasn't here got to cook exactly what we want so it was dukkah crusted lamb chops drizzled w/pomegranate molasses, and a watermelon, spinach, and romaine hearts salad. DGD thinks lambs and ducks are too cute to be eaten but calves, cows, pigs, goats and chickens are not 🤷‍♀️. As children like to say: "Whatever",LOL.

The chops were from the butcher shop since I made a conscious decision to eat food made that day and raid the cold and stable pantries as late as possible. At this moment I can go out in the street with relative ease but the man is restricted by the Governor's edict so I plan to make the best of it.

Here's the recipe I used for the chops:

COOK'S NOTES: You can use lamb rib chops or porterhouse chops. I bet it would work w/ grilled chicken cutlets as well. Nothing wrong with substituting most any kind of nut: peanuts, hazelnuts, almonds, etc.
The first time I made this was at a camp site and it was a meal filled with memories of the setting and food; it's become my equivalent of Proust's madeleines.

I didn't post yesterday because in our house, self-care is regarded as "selfish" and "dramatic." I have been begging for help since my son was born and my mother yells at me, my DH just walks away.

We did manage to have an okay day, though. Our son is getting a little difficult; he doesn't want to do ANYTHING that is asked of him. We got him to go outside and "Chalk the Walk," however, which was fun! We put a bear in the window for those that want to do the "bear hunt" challenge. We watched the Cincinnatti Zoo's presentation on penguins. A few art projects, and to wrap up the day, we went outside again to watch the International Space Station fly over! Last time we did that, he was only 18 months old and of course he doesn't really remember it. It's actually kind of cool to see!

Today, he went with DH to go visit DH's parents. Last week was my MIL's birthday and we were supposed to celebrate last night (but of course we didn't get the whole family together. My niece turned 16, same day as my MIL, but we can't have a party as my SIL is high-risk). So anyway, DS made a card and a few art projects and they are checking in on Mom and Dad, making sure they are okay (Dad's had some issues with blood sugar and falling lately).

Hi all and Happy Sunday.

It's been such different day today. We streamed Mass this morning on facebook live. It felt weird being in my pjs so I changed into fancy yoga pants and shirt to feel more presentable lol. Then I felt weird sitting on the couch watching Mass so I sat on the floor with a pillow to kneel. So many learning curves and changes to our routines and having to make new ones. Last night we watched live streaming of Grand Ole Opry with no one in the audience. It was sweet and sad at same time. I felt the same about church this morning but also felt connected seeing the amount of people viewing at same time.

For those with cable, my xfinity has opened up lots of movie channels and exercise and children's programming. I think this is a great time to utilize if need be. I have been doing yoga for a while with Adrienne on you tube. I have had to start from pre-beginning to get used to it but I do feel better and the breathing meditation is very helpful. I can't say enough good about it no matter the shape of your health or body. My older fat *** isn't getting into a pretzel but at least I can reach my feet now on the mat.

Dinner tonight is chicken pot pie with roasted asparagus and I need to bake something new. Last night was clean out the fridge leftovers for dinner. I told my husband that I'm going to end up turning into my granny and saving those two spoon fulls of yogurt or mashed potato for another day the way I feel on edge lately. I wonder if anyone else feels the same.

Now onto question today and get caught up on the others. Please keep safe and know we will get through this. Be kind and let's be on same team.

We were more blessed than most as we had just left on vacation when junk started getting real. Since we simply couldn't get home any sooner than planned, we had an absolutely delightful time together in Puerto Vallarta, celebrating our 25th Anniversary. We did tons of YOLO-type activities and it was so good just to laugh, hold hands and walk in the sun. :cloud9: We're home safely now, in 14 days of self-isolation and trying hard not to lose the "warm-fuzzies" with one another too quickly.
