Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Our fridge is 18 years old and was making not-normal noises yesterday. I said to DH "now would be the worst possible time for our fridge to die, because we won't be able to buy a new one!" :scared: So far so good. Keep your fingers crossed!

Hope it hangs in there for you. Our 5 year old one was making odd sounds yesterday. Finally I realized what it was. We have an ice maker, but we never hooked it up. I keep the 'arm thing' up so it won't be trying to make it. Must have moved something in the freezer and it got pushed down, and was trying to make ice. Pushed it back up, and no more noises,,whew!

Thank god DH has a very long meeting at the office today. :p He is driving me crazy. Days with nothing to do is not a good thing for him.

I feel your pain. Hubby is working from home till this is over. But there is only so much paperwork and laptop work he can do for now. And he's planning on retiring in June--yikes! 24/7 is going to drive both of us nuts! Take the day to do something that only YOU like to do , while he's out of the house!

Does laundry and washing bedding count? :p I am used to being home all day, puttering, plus I am an introvert so none of this bothers me, yet.

I've found the downside to being tidy and organized ~ when you have nothing else to do, there is nothing to do! I'll probably start some Spring Cleaning this week.

3 good things:
  • The DIS! - I'm grateful that I already had an online friend group in place before it was so necessary.
  • Decluttering progress - DH and I are finally cleaning out the tool/storage room.
  • I was able to buy toilet paper this morning.
I wish it was warmer here because then we could be spending time in the garage, cleaning, organizing and getting rid of a bunch of stuff. It was only in the low 30's here yesterday, so that will have to wait...maybe this upcoming weekend.

Already had 1 good thing this morning--I started my tomato plants from seeds down in the basement on Thursday. I just went down to mist them, and I already have seedlings coming up! :flower1:
DH and I are talking about having a container garden this year, but we aren't sure how to get started. :)

Good Morning All!!

I'm about to start my online class (that was supposed to be traditional in house) 3 hour accounting zoom class. Wish me luck and I'll be back to post more afterwards if I'm not hot mess of melting from 3 hour accounting by zoom.

Good luck!

DH and I are talking about having a container garden this year, but we aren't sure how to get started. :)
I bought almost all of my seeds online about a month ago. I mix potting soil and seed starter together in a pail. Then I put it in those little black trays they sell at walmart. Fill them with the soil, plant the seeds (I put 2 in each one, in different places, just in case 1 doesn't come up, but my luck, they will all come up!), mist them thoroughly. I have a shoplite hung over a card table, and I put the tray up something so that the light is about 4 or 5" above it. Set the light on a timer so it stays on. Put the plastic cover over them (I make small garden markers out of old viny blind slats to identify each space), . Mist every day till they all sprout..then move the light a little higher to encourage them to grow. When they are a few weeks old, I thin out and keep just 1 plant in each hole. Then I transplant them into bigger containers when they are sturdy enough.
When big enough, they go into the garden. But you can do the same thing and just transplant them into bigger containers for growing. Or you can just buy plants that are already started (like Lowes or Walmart) and plant them into container. Peppers, some tomatoes, and herbs all grow well in containers. Gardening is my relaxation time in the summer!

Everytime I go down to the washer or dryer, I look, and more and more are sprouting their little heads up today! lol

Three goodies for the week:

Received a phone call from a family member I haven't heard from in a long time; good base touching.
Love DGD w/ heart and soul but enjoyed her weekend visit to her other grandmother. We all needed a break.
Some spring cleaning/organizing completed and it lifted some of the "weight" of seeing too much stuff.

Sunday was an meatless dinner. Grabbed some ratatouille out of the freezer and it made a nice filling for the omelets. Made a green salad to go with it.
Found some citrus shortbread that wasn't listed on my freezer inventory (must update the list!), defrosted it and topped with sliced kiwi. A dollop of jar whipped cream and dessert was made. What is jar whipped cream you say? Pour cream into a glass jar w/ sugar (any kind,) and vanilla (optional). Replace lid and shake. Arm exercising and dessert all in one:).

Decided that it's time to make some Italian casserole dishes for the freezer: manicotti , lasagna, and stuffed shells. No more Asian cookery for a bit. Historically, the ingredients are on sale now but who knows if this will remain true? Still, if I can call in an order to shops on Arthur Avenue ( the Bronx Little Italy) life will be easier.

I'm used to DH being here, always something to be done because he is a SLOB??
He at least has a shop to go to and got lots of supplies so hopefully.

I will be deep cleaning a lot of things I put off and cleaning up the backyard a lot.......tables and stuff wipes down. Toys for the grand kids cleaned.
Nice out now, but will be hot soon.......just wish the pool would heat up but we're running cooler than usual.

Venturing out to Costco tomorrow during senior hours. 8-9 am. I sure hope this works out.

I snapped yesterday. My husband and I cannot be in the kitchen at the same time. We just cannot.
Longstanding rule in this household. The man is an excellent mincer/chopper but he cannot do it in the kitchen. I set up a spot for him at the D/R table or in front of the TV and we remain "sane". When he decides to make his meatloaf during the hottest day of the year (Huh?!), I make sure to leave the house because really life is too short, LOL.

Best wishes with finding your sweet spot:).

Can you access the coils in the back? Sometimes a good vacuuming or dusting solves the problem.
My mother had baseboards installed in the kitchen after the new appliances were put in (she gut rehabbed for the first time in her late '80s). This was an unforeseen mistake because now the fridge cannot be moved w/o removing the baseboard. I'll get around to it eventually but know it will be a PIA.

To try and keep things light and bring a litte Disney into my quarantine cleaning, I cleaned while wearing my Disney princess tiara & when it slipped, my DD straightened it for me. It was a sweet moment. 🙂 I’m also grateful my husband is working from home now.
But a little downer is my DS. He’s technically an adult, but lives with us. Our state is in Quarantine & I believe it is third worse in nation right now. He won’t stop going to his GF’s house. I tried talking to him, demanding really, that he has to stop going back and forth. It’s putting us at risk. I even offered for her to stay with us for the duration of the quarantine, but she doesn’t want to. Her parents will not allow him to stay with them. I’m actually glad for that. I’d rather have him home. But I don’t know how to get him to stop & it’s freaking me out.
