hmmm I wonder - is there a United Rentals or Cater Cat up your way? I think there is one in Winchester & Hagerstown - those are probably to far from you though for it to remain economically feasable- Or maybe a tree service could get the trees down w/ their equipment and you can just have the other guy clear them out after the fact?
We have a few trees we need to take down as well. It's to bad we don't live a lot closer, I'd send one of the kids over with a excavator and get it down for you.
No, nothing like that. We have only a few places that rent that stuff. Winchester or Hagerstown would charge way too much for delivery. This guy works for a tree service. He told me they would probably charge $4000 to take the tree down. Way too much, I'll leave the tree there for now. He called an hour ago and said he would be here 'in a bit'. I hate when they say that down here, it could be 15 minutes or 2 hours.
That's for the offer. If you lived closer, I'd take you up on it!

If you enjoy Victorian and/or Tudor or Windsor era 'what was life like' type of books I can recommend a few authors -

Alice Roberts - I've read Ancestors, and have Tamed: Ten Species that Changed the World and Buries: Alternate History of Britian in the 1st Millenium on deck
Lucy Worsely - I've enjoyed several of her books (she has several shows/specials on Acorn/BritBox &/or PBS

I've also enjoyed London: A short History of the Greatest City in the World by Robert Bocholz - The Fairy-Faith in Celtic Countries by W.Y. Evans-Wentz -

I met a woman while in Vienna last year who had traveled there because she had a read the following book that really just affected her so much she needed to make the voyage to Austria to visit the stables and the city/country where it occured....the book was The Perfect Horse: The Daring Rescue of Horses Kidnapped During WWII. I confess after talking to her about the book I ordered it from Amazon while we were still in Austria but I've not yet gotten around to reading it. I should make time to do so sooner rather than later.

Oooh, I love her! - I've seen quite a few of her TV episodes on PBS.

I don't know Alice Roberts, but will look her up.

And those look good too! Thanks for the recommendations. :goodvibes

Good morning. Sunny here again which is amazing. Going into the 70s again but I believe this is the last day. Then back to reality. I am going for a walk in the park near Kenny, to Michaels to look for Christmas gifts the a couple of the grandkids, and maybe kohls. Other than that it will be house work. It will be a quiet weekend.

I love Lucy Worsely. Her shows are so interesting. Other authors who write good books about British Royal history, both fiction and nonfiction, are Antonia Fraser, Alison Weir, and Philippa Gregory.

Have a good day.

Good sunny Saturday morning. Going to be 80 again. Homecoming weekend here, so they have a great day for the football game. Would have been a good tree cutting day too, but it's not to be this weekend.

I'm having issues with my PC now, I think it's the hard drive. Every time I have to do updates it won't start up again. I have to unplug it, wait a minute, and then plug it back in. It's only 4 years old so I would expect it to last longer.. Don says take the screws out, take the cover off and vacuum it out. He doesn't realize that they don't use 'screw's, anymore, they use these rivet type things, at least on the HP one we have. They don't want you taking them apart, they want you to buy a new one. So I guess some retail therapy is in my future. Going to try and find one that still has windows 10, but I don't know if that's possible. I just don't care for 11, I'm still trying to get used to it on the laptop.
Hopefully it will last until Black Friday deals start popping up.

Bed has been stripped, mattress turned end to end, remade and sheets are on the line drying in the sunshine. My friend in CO texted me this morning that it's 26 degrees and they have a winter storm warning for 7-10". I told her to keep every flake out there, lol

Major news in the paper this morning, we're getting a Sonic and a Checkers, lol. Give us some decent restaurants, not more fast good places. Our choice of actual restaurants is pitiful

Have a good Saturday all

Cleaning out my basement is akin to others cleaning out their garage that no longer fits their cars. I have a partially finished basement which is unusable due to accumulated treasures. ie JUNK that is still of value but not worth all the moving I do when I need to find something.

I've also got furniture down there. Rugs (rolled up after professional cleaning) that I'll probably never use again. 2 huge bird cages.

A friend came by one day and said, 'why don't you clean this out and rent it?'. Easy answer - I have one room mate - my DD - and so long as she stays, I don't need anyone else. The money - maybe 1K for the space - not worth the hassle of having a stranger down there.

Why the push for clean and order? Xmas is coming and I bought a new tree. It's a little early to put it up. I'm usually the just before Christmas person and then keep it as long as I'm enjoying it. New floors upstairs, so removed a lot of extra stuff from up there.

The shed is full. The greenhouse even has a lot of stuff in it. Too much stuff.

A lot of the stuff is household items such as blankets, spreads, extra pillows, bath mats, too many shower curtains (I like to keep the white ones up, but also do seasonal such as xmas and spring for a month) towels, beach stuff, camping gear, a brand new steam cleaner still in it's box, unopened.

I may have 25 or so pet beds, as I change out and clean them weekly. Small ones. No more big animals.

Did I mention I have 3 dryers, all in working condition? Only one matches my washer. But - have to get someone to carry them out of there to either sell or junk for scrap. I used to use two, but don't really have that need anymore.

Didn't itemize all the furniture as I might shock myself, but most has to go. We just don't sit down there. Or sleep on the beds either.

The time has come.

@lynxstch We had a Sonic where I used to live. It lasted about 2 years before it closed. We went once and that was enough. Never heard of Checkers. My new town does not have much in the way of fast food or family restaurants. We have a general store that sells sandwiches, salads, and baked goods. That's about it. I go to Kenny's town to get takeout or go to a sitdown restaurant with him. Thankfully that is only 10 minutes away. It is annoying when computers start to act up. I agree with you about Windows 11. Hope you can get a good deal on a new PC. As usual you are having a busy day. Take time to rest a bit if you can. Colorado can have the snow.

we have both of those fast food choices not far away. I don't go.

Have you tried a can off air to blow some dust away? I can't actually imagine dust daring to settle in your house! (Said with admiration for your cleaning regimen as I don't have that gene).

I didn't mention in my last message that yesterday I also bought the 6 foot tall stainless shelving (4 feet wide) to use in my basement. The unit has wheels so if I actually make space I'll be able to move it easily. I brought one home as that's all that fit in my car, but I think I'll need another.

I actually use compressed air in the back every month. I know that's not the problem, so it has to be the hard drive. Nothing they make anymore lasts the same as it used to.

But I thank you for the compliment on my cleaning regimen, lol

Good Morning:hug:

Lynn:grouphug:no one cleans better than you! I keep telling you and B&B (prayers she is okay) ought to go into business together!

Quiet morning here. Dad, thank God is staying home today. We already got one expected Amazon package. I am expecting a package through the mail later. Reminder to please let me know by tomorrow if you would like me to order a postcard on Zazzle for you for my dad. Trying to make this easier on all so kind to contribute. Thank you, friends so much. I will be mailing out to some of you this week ahead. As always, PM me if ever any of dear you would like a card or postcard of cheer from LA. you know it would bring me joy to send to you :)

I will check back in later. Have a happy day friends.

We were thinking about how the players also had to deal with time changes and jet lag and such, too. At least now I think they’ll all be in the same time zones (Arizona and Texas.)
I looked it up and they are currently two hours apart. It may depend on if we are on daylight savings time and when we change because most of Arizona does not do daylight savings time. It's not a hard to adjust time change, I've been out that way a couple of times and it wasn't bad.
Yes - I love Call the Midwife! - I've watched each season as it came on PBS and also read the books.
Would you recommend the books? I love the series and usually read a book before watching the tv series/movie.
After scrolling thru some of the recent posts I see that I am probably in the minority in the tv series and books that I like.

To name a few series::
Billions, Dark Winds, Jack Ryan, Gold Rush (my DW always says it is the same show over and over, something always breaking down, moving the wash plants etc)

Authors - Vince Flynn, Mark Greaney, Tom Clancy, Mark Meltzer
I've enjoyed Billion and Jack Ryan, would love to see Dark Winds. And I absolutely love Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp character!
That’s what’s nice about this thread, we have different interests and can learn from eachother!
Definitely!
I'm just about ready to start my 'way over thinking it Thanksgiving pre-list lists and inventoring my china even though it's not changed since last year' fretting ;) Right now I'm thinking it is looking like we will be hosting15...maybe 17. A nice amount of folks...I love a boisterous full house for Thanksgiving afternoon so I'm glad to be expecting a small crowd! I'll start roughing up my menu as well - although it's not like it's anything spectacularly different that requires me to go over it, but I will!
Since the gkids will not be here this year for Thanksgiving, James is looking into which restaurants are serving Thanksgiving dinner so no cooking for me this year. I think it will be good to do something different.
Currently reading: too many books at once, as usual. 📚 I have a "cozy mystery" going, a biography of Robert Ingersoll, and this one (just started) from the library because it matches a class I'm taking:

Oh, and "The Body Keeps the Score" on Audible.
This makes my head spin! I can't imagine having four books going at one time!
The Perfect Horse: The Daring Rescue of Horses Kidnapped During WWII.
I've put this on my purchase list on Amazon. I loved the Marguerite O'Henry and Black Stallion books as a child. I'm surprised I missed this one. If it was about a horse, I read it. Does anyone remember Beautiful Joe by Marshal Saunders? I just loved that book.

This month's book club selection is Worst Hard Time by Timothy Egan. It's about the Dust Bowl. Horrible times! If you like to read about history it's worth the time. I knew about the Dust Bowl but never really understood what caused it.

I've been watching Flint Road on Netflix. It's a documentary about the police force there back around 2015.

It's been raining here the last couple of days. Still a chance for more through Monday. Then the temperature gets colder, down in the 30's at night for a couple of days. Love it!

James' blood work results are starting to come in and all look good so far. He will hear about his bone marrow test on Friday. He gets to begin weaning himself off of the anti rejection medicine on Monday, it will take about two months.

Carol has another surprise court hearing on Thursday. It never ends...........

The Rangers won last night. It had to be a really good game, I didn't watch but I would check the score from time to time and it was really close. I'm rooting for the Rangers but if the Diamondbacks win, that's okay. Neither team has won a World Series so I will be happy with either one.

One of my great nieces has a birthday soon. She'll be 14 and I have a brain freeze when it comes to choosing a gift for this year. Last year I gave her a book and the year before Diamond Art. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

So leaping ahead to Sunday. It will be sunny but will be "chilly monsters" as our family likes to call these crisp mornings in the PNW. Below freezing and warming up to a high in the low 50's

DS and I will be teeing it up at 11:40am at our local golf course. Cart path only so we will be using our push carts. Golfing every Sunday with my son is the best! He has been playing for only 3 years and kicks my butt. He carries a 4 handicap and would like to say that I taught him everything he knows but I would be lying.

Cheers!

Yes, they were very good!

So glad about James, @Kirby! 🙏❤️
Me too!

I went with a group to the college observatory last night, and had a great time! They had a couple of the "small" telescopes set up in different directions, so we could get a really clear view of Saturn's rings, and a good amount if detail on Jupiter too - including four of it's moons.

One of the professors took us up to see the larger telescope (attached to a camera, not for direct viewing) and demonstrated how they turn it and control the dome. She took a picture of the ring nebula, so we saw that on the computer screen.
