Just to follow up to my own question I posted here yesterday - but in a nutshell I am interested in adding on to our CCV 250 direct pts with another 50 or 60 pts and pondered direct vs. resale.

I know we have a tricky UY, because it's September, and only needing a few points finding a resale contract would be quite hard so I reached out to DVC directly and I'm happy to say that since I already have the 150 pts direct through them that I can EASILY buy another small contract that starts at 50 pts and can basically buy any denomination of points going up from there.

He was able to look in the system and tell me straight away that they DO have Sept. UY points available and if I bought soon I could get 2020 pts now along with 2021 pts in Sept.....which is more than I think I would find with a resale. He did mention that since my 2020 pts banking window is closed, they would make an exception and allow us to bank those point and then I could talk to MS about swapping out some of the 2021 pts I am using for my March 2022 trip..

Now, I just need to convince DH that NOW IS THE TIME....I mean, we're only talking 60 pts here! :lovestruc :rotfl2:

Just wanted to pass on in case anyone else was looking at adding on a small contract - I do believe that other properties have a smaller required number of points to add on, but since we're CCV, that's all I was concerned with.

Thanks everyone - this is a great board to find out information for us newbies! :thumbsup2

I believe the minimum add-on is no higher than 50 for most resorts and only 25 for Aulani (others might be 25 too).

Disney always make an exception and allows direct buyers to bank points they’re buying in the current UY even if the banking window has closed. It’s not like they’re doing you a big favor. I‘ve also read on the boards that it’s required by law. Considering limited resale availability and the ease and speed of purchase, there definitely are advantages to buying direct, just don’t let them fool you on this issue.

I heard the minimum was 50 if financing, 25 if cash. Third hand knowledge.

For older resorts, that was the amount. For CCV and RIV, it is 50 no matter how one is paying. I am going to assume this will be the new way forward.

Banking points for a new add on contract is something they routinely do. They don't 100% have to per the documents, but I've never heard of them not doing it. The docs say they may at their discretion, but it pretty much always happens.

From time to time, the DVC Operator, in its discretion, may provide for extended Banking rights to Club Members during their first Use Year.

Swapping points out is specifically allowed per the documents

2) Once Borrowed, Home Resort Vacation Points cannot be returned to their original Use Year and will expire if not used by the end of the Use Year into which they were Borrowed. However, if a Club Member purchases an additional Ownership Interest after Borrowing Home Resort Vacation Points, that Club Member may substitute newly allocated Home Resort Vacation Points of a current Use Year for the Borrowed Home Resort Vacation Points that were used toward a future reservation, and the Borrowed Home Resort Vacation Points will be returned to their original Use Year

I added on some Feb BLT points in Jan of 2018 I think. No issues banking the 2017 points to the 2018 UY, and then using those points to modify a reservation I had, while putting 50 borrowed 2019 points back in their original UY.

Yes minimum for RIV and CCV is 50, 25 for the rest, but you cannot finance under 50 through DVC from what I remember. I forget things all the time and I’m only 46. For small contracts from about 75 points or less, it is much easier and not much more money to buy direct for some resorts like OKW, SSR, AKV, BWV even VGF resale is crazy right now.
