PTR-Cheating on Mickey w/Harry!...OMG! Only a month to go!

Glad you're all booked. :thumbsup2 I just applied for SW's cc for the 50,000 points. That should be able to score us 5 of our 6 tickets needed.

I'm always in favor of CC miles for flights. We used SW for a while and got our share of flights. Any credit card program that will get you miles is good. I hope you can work it to your advantage!

I'm going to go out on a limb here....whilst the food porn is always engaging, I think this post was more engaging because of the details you provided on the presentation. Love the detail about the restoration and the deterioration. Thanks for sharing.

Could not agree more. The food looks amazing and my mouth was watering. I could not help thinking how cool it would be to attend something like that though. I hope to just set foot in Club 33 someday (maybe June if it woorks out) but to go for a special event like that, incredible. So happy for you. Thanks for sharing.

That is so fascinating, I'm really amazed they can do things like that. Thanks so much for sharing :)
::yes:: I love all the science behind things...

Agree also.... The food looked amazing, not sure how the red velvet meatballs and white chocolate pasta would have been, but I would have tried it anyway.... I never turn away red velvet.

They called DH today to verify we applied. He had no clue. :rotfl2: Looks like we'll be able to use those 50,000 miles towards flights for our tickets to MCO! Part me me now is thinking I should use them for our trip to Arizona for Spring Break but the drive isn't that bad. Hmmm....or I could use them for DD's and DS's flights to summer camp in CO......

And you got to go again? :faint: What an amazing experience to learn about film preservation in such a great spot. I agree though, that dessert looks unnerving.

I had no idea just how volatile that the film was. I knew that it deteriorated, but no idea the extent!

I know, I just wish that they would do the presentation a little bit throughout dinner, not just all after dinner, that way I would remember more!

It was awesome! :goodvibes

I wish I remembered more of the stuff they told us, it's not real cool to take notes like I do at the Destination-D events! Plus I probably wouldn't be able to read my handwriting after all that wine! :lmao:

The Red Velvet Meatballs were almost like truffles and the pasta was sort of sweet and tasty, it was actually quite good!

As I said above, the 1st dessert was really good! :thumbsup2

We get to do another one in a month, we just got the invitation today, but we have to make the call in. It's a POTC 45th Anniversary dinner!

The restoration process is interesting. The beef looks yummy!

So as we wait for our 180 day mark to make ADRs and they announce the F&W schedule, I’ll have to tell you all about our daily life of planting. First you need to understand our yard. We live in a four unit apartment complex and occupy the entire bottom floor. That means that the entire patio in the back of the building is basically ours. However we do have to leave room for the new tenant to be able to get to the laundry, other than that, it’s our patio.

Because our main unit is in the front of the building, the glass door opens to the front end of the patio.

Immediately to the right of the patio door is a baker’s rack where I grow my herbs. 2008 was the first year that I did the Napa Rose cooking school and that Christmas my mom gave me an herb garden as my present. I kept it going until late 2010 when life got too hectic and I let it die off. That was also around the time when I let my last tomato plants go after two seasons of growing them.

So here are the herbs that I have planted so far. Parsley, Thyme and Basil.

And Rosemary, since I took these pictures I’ve also added chives and sage to this shelf.

Looking down the longer end of the patio…

These are my trees that I’ve had for many years. The lime tree hasn’t actually produced any fruit, but we repotted it and I’m hoping with some citrus food it will bear fruit this next year.

DSCN4395.jpg

This lemon tree has given us a lot of fruit over the years, but now it’s become so tall, it’s hard for me to pick the fruit.

DSCN4396.jpg

This orange tree just started making oranges a couple of years ago, but none of them have been very sweet. Again, we’re hoping that citrus food will help this out.

DSCN4397.jpg

This is all the new planting. These two tomatoes are a Better Boy Hybrid (left), and a Red Beefsteak Heirloom (right) and they’re both red tomatoes.

This one is a yellow pear tomato

Then these are the new fruit trees. The two in the foreground are a Peach and a Nectarine (not necessarily in that order). The one on the end is a Navel Orange tree.

This is looking back toward the front of the patio.

And then again looking back towards the back of the patio from in front of the laundry room door.

We still have two cucumbers, a zucchini and a new lemon tree to plant. Fran was under the weather all day today, so she swears that tomorrow we will get up early and plant. ::yes:: :rotfl2:

By the time we go to F&W we should be well into the harvest if not on the tail end of the plants. I’ll keep you all posted on the progress!

Wow, that is alot of planting. I am glad you can use that much. I will be lucky if the tomato will grow for me.:lmao: Thanks for sharing!

I think that Basil will be growing through the upper shelf by June.

That's a lovely patio. Perfect for kitchen plantings.

Have you considered pruning your old lemon tree? They are rather hardy and if you prune it back to below your hand picking level, it should be productive again in 2 seasons. You can always research it on the net if you're looking for pointers on how to prune.

I've always wanted to have a container garden for herbs. You may have inspired me.

So I don't have to run through many pages when is your trip? I was at one day of the F&W festival a few years ago and it was really fun.

I only have a little patio garden, I am jealous of all the wonderful plants...

Thanks so much for sharing :) Gardening is one of my joys. Very nice array of plants. How long until the peach and nectarine start to produce fruit? I almost bought one last year but talked myself out of it. Those ferns are just magnificent! I stopped planting tomatoes because one year a squirrel went from one tomato to the next taking a bite or two out of each one. I was so mad.

Beautiful garden. The only presents I ever get in my backyard are doodies from the neighbors cat. He must have trained her to do her business in other peoples' yards. Smart man. I do not even own a pet, yet I have to keep picking up after one.

We'll see how much we get, I've never had a problem in the past with eating our crop!

That's why I can move it to the top shelf when necessary!

Fran didn't seem to think that the bottom branches would grow out any since they have all been pruned. I know if you trip the top, it will grow downward, but evidently we messed up in the beginning for it to start growing down.

OK since there has been so much scheduling, canceling and stuff it bears to repeat the actual trip dates:

Oct 10, 2012 - Fly to Orlando, check into Loew's Royal Pacific Hotel
Oct 12, 2012 - Switch from US/IOA to Beach Club Villas, F&W Festival for the next few days.
Oct 17, 2012 - Switch to VWL for a relaxing vacation.

I only have a little patio garden, I am jealous of all the wonderful plants...

Thanks, we actually gave away a bunch of plants to clear room for the fruit/veggies, we still need some more space because we still have cucumbers and zucchini to plant! :faint:

I have no idea how long it will be until any of these trees bear fruit, but I think that most of them bloom in the winter, so we''l see. I'm glad you like the ferns. They do well in our climate. Except for the one outside my patio front door, the others are hard to kill. The other one takes lots of TLC. In fact every summer when it gets hot, if I don't pay specific attention and give it lots of water, it loses most of it's leaves.

Thanks for all you wonderful comments!

Love love love your gardening! :thumbsup2 I'm especially envious of the fresh citrus.

We live on a half acre and have a huge garden and compost pile every year. The girls have dedicated a few rows to the omeless shelter as their pre bat mitzvah projects. The shelters rarely get fresh foods and seem quite appreciative.

The me thing I cannot grow to save myself are herbs. I must be doing something wrong. :confused3 Any herb tips to share?

Last year the kids did a pumpkin patch and harvested almost 25 pumpkins. It was so cool.

Which herbs did you grow? Container or in-ground? Depending on the growing conditions, some of mine do bolt to seed almost immediately.
