So as we wait for our 180 day mark to make ADRs and they announce the F&W schedule, Ill have to tell you all about our daily life of planting. First you need to understand our yard. We live in a four unit apartment complex and occupy the entire bottom floor. That means that the entire patio in the back of the building is basically ours. However we do have to leave room for the new tenant to be able to get to the laundry, other than that, its our patio.
Because our main unit is in the front of the building, the glass door opens to the front end of the patio.
Immediately to the right of the patio door is a bakers rack where I grow my herbs. 2008 was the first year that I did the Napa Rose cooking school and that Christmas my mom gave me an herb garden as my present. I kept it going until late 2010 when life got too hectic and I let it die off. That was also around the time when I let my last tomato plants go after two seasons of growing them.
So here are the herbs that I have planted so far. Parsley, Thyme and Basil.
And Rosemary, since I took these pictures Ive also added chives and sage to this shelf.
Looking down the longer end of the patio
These are my trees that Ive had for many years. The lime tree hasnt actually produced any fruit, but we repotted it and Im hoping with some citrus food it will bear fruit this next year.
This lemon tree has given us a lot of fruit over the years, but now its become so tall, its hard for me to pick the fruit.
This orange tree just started making oranges a couple of years ago, but none of them have been very sweet. Again, were hoping that citrus food will help this out.
This is all the new planting. These two tomatoes are a Better Boy Hybrid (left), and a Red Beefsteak Heirloom (right) and theyre both red tomatoes.
This one is a yellow pear tomato
Then these are the new fruit trees. The two in the foreground are a Peach and a Nectarine (not necessarily in that order). The one on the end is a Navel Orange tree.
This is looking back toward the front of the patio.
And then again looking back towards the back of the patio from in front of the laundry room door.
We still have two cucumbers, a zucchini and a new lemon tree to plant. Fran was under the weather all day today, so she swears that tomorrow we will get up early and plant.
By the time we go to F&W we should be well into the harvest if not on the tail end of the plants. Ill keep you all posted on the progress!
