~Project Runway Season Season 8 Thread Spoilers Welcome~

Ok I am Team Mondo. but this season i have not been wowed or even good lord what were they thinking & yet it worked like I have been in past seasons. Last week was a let down, I did not think that anything was last challenge worthy...am i alone:3dglasses

April should have gone home the week she made the "diaper shorts". Gretchens last 2 outfits were terrible. I loved Michaels black dress. Though it looks simple, it's very hard to do that pleeting. I think the final 3 are still up for grabs, anyone could go.

I had forgotten about the diaper shorts until they showed all the designs last week. I agree that she should have gone home then too. I also loved Michaels dress. I wasn't sure while he was sewing it, but it was beautiful.

Unless Mondo has a really bad time, I don't see anyone coming close to his work.

When Michael made the finals all I could think about was the Karma comment from Ivy. I hope when they bring back the helpers, he doesn't get her. I think she would sink him just because.

I was happy with the final four - well except for Gretchen, because firstly, she is just mean and so self-absorbed, and secondly, her outfit was terrible. I liked April, but I do have to admit that when they showed a bunch of her designs on the screen at the same time, they all looked pretty much the same.

.

I know, variations of the same thing and the same color.

I really do not like Gretchen. I think that she is petty and mean sprited and if the helpers come back I hope that she gets Ivy.

.

I liked it too. I think that he has a good eye and as the judges pointed out, he may not know what to call a fabric but he does know how to use it.

I am also Team Mondo. I cannto wait to se the collections, but I think i will like Mondo and Michael,s the best, We'll see :cool1:

That was just a painful, heart-wrenching thing to watch. I felt so bad for Michael....he was just so devastated.

That said, I am still Team Mondo.

It was the saddest ending ever:sad1:

But i always thought Michael progressed on outfits that were way too simple or he 'lucked out"-he didnt have the talent the others had

Its just so hard because his family doesnt support him

Poor Michael. I wanted him, Andy and Mondo with Mondo for the win. Can't stand Gretchen. Yuck..her stuff id gross. I though Michael;s things were the nicest tonight but I shop at Kohl's so what the heck do I know?:lmao:

:thumbsup2 I was pulling for Mondo and Michael. :sad1:

I think Michael had some beautiful pieces-- I loved his 11th look, and LOVED that cocktail dress he showed Tim with the pink top and gray feathers! That was honestly painful to watch. If his parents are really what he says that are...wow...they forced him to get married? They'll try to talk him out of that again? Not an easy or fair way to live...
Mondo all the way-- will be VERY upset if anyone but him wins. LOVED that 11th skirt-- I honestly want that right now!!

I felt so bad for Michael...he was just so devastated. Just can't understand how a family can be like that.

I liked his collection more than Gretchen's. I thought Michael, Mondo and Andy should have gone on. I also think Mondo should win.

I'll miss watching the show (again!) when this season ends.

Gretchen sent a model out w/ no TOP! I can't believe they actually liked that. I think it was very ugly. What was Andy thinking w/ the bikini.:confused3 I believe the judges had their minds made up before the show even started. I believe they wanted to send Michael home last show, but because he made the best dress, they couldn't. The guy never had a chance.

Why did they have to keep showing him at the end when he was so upset. S many feeling regarding his family were coming out. That should have been kept private. But, ya know, anything for ratings. :sad2:

Gretchin shoud have been out, based on the 3 looks.

Another crier here! I was bawling at the end...I wanted Michael to go so badly. I thought his pieces were so much better than Gretchen's and Andy's. I know Mondo will win hands down, but Michael has such heart and his pieces were beautiful. He was the second most deserving to be there. Did you hear tell Mondo to "take it all"? What were the judges thinking??? Is there someplace were you can see his whole line even though it didn't make it to fashion week?

One more thing..just googled "Michael C Project Runway" and found his Spring collection 2011. They had to show it Fashion week to throw off who was the final three before they aired the show last night. His pieces were beautiful and I believe the best. He had a good shot at winning it all :( Again...what were the judges thinking?

Ya' know, I saw that and thought "Michael, when you said that you had no idea how people were going to respond to your clothes or to you, did you, sweetie?" After all, a LOT of non-winners from Project Runway, the ones we viewers liked with looks we liked, have gone on to bigger and better things. Look at Kane! His pageant dresses are now major ka-ching and known all over the world. Or Santino and Austin, for that matter.

I just wanted to hug Michael last night in his confessional and say "Oh, hun bun, if you weren't getting a sympathetic edit before now, you sure clinched it with that. You and Mondo will come out as everyone's favorite people. . .just keep designing pretty gowns and you'll have a successful career. Tell your parents to go take a hike! Gretchen, OTOH, well. When even Tim Gunn doesn't like you. . .wellllll. . ."

Right. Tim even empathized with what's her name - [crazy] Kenley. Love love love :rolleyes2: that Gretchen was so catty toward Michael C all season, but now that he's no longer in competition with her and devastated, she's concerned about him.

:thumbsup2 ABSOLUTELY!!!! I hope he can do more-but without $$$ its hard to get started.

I HATED gretchen's stuff-and Andy showing that bikini was a BIG mistake:sad2:

I felt really bad for Michael, but I thought it was his time to go. Even his most beautiful clothes this season were still reminiscent of other designers. To me, the idea of Project Runway is to discover the next new thing, not the designer that can create beautiful clothes that are basically knock-offs. While I certainly think Mondo is the frontrunner, and has some of the most original designs, I completely understand why Gretchen is there. Like her or not, she does give a different take on things. I don't love her clothes, but I certainly admire her originality and, for me, that is what the show is about.

I've thought for weeks that it would be Mondo, Andy and Gretchen and I think the judges have, too. Andy made it hard for them, however, sending out that bathing suit.

I think it was a bit wrong for the judges to criticize Gretchen's granola style at this late date...she has sent out those kind of clothes from the beginning. I personally hate them but the judges have liked them to date. Did they think she was going to get to Fashion Week and send sequins down the runway?

Call us cruel, but we laughed at Michael's histronics...c'mon, April took it better and she was 21!

The thing about designers is DON'T THEY NEED A DAY JOB???!!!! I really don't have a clue how they get themselves established, short of a contest show. You always think of the stereotypical NYC waitress trying to make it on Broadway. But at least there are auditions to go to if you want to act; what the heck to designers do to have a shot at it?

I know that a lot of the issues Michael C had with his parents relate to his sexual preference. But probably part of it is, jeez, you're 27 years old, you have a kid [how old was he when he had that kid anyway?! a bit of early attempts to prove his manhood?], you need a paying job!

Just think about it with your own kids...how many years into adulthood would you continue to provide extensive financial support to a kid who wanted to be a designer, baseball player, actor, poet, etc? I don't know if he does even get financial support from his parents, but it makes me think. Yes, I would encourage my children to do what they want to do...but some time along their mid-20s, they would need to figure out a way to support themselves, and if they stay up all night pursuing their passion, so be it.

I have a friend whose son is trying to work his way up the pro baseball farm teams. I wonder how long they'll keep giving financial support so that he can pursue his dreams.

THIS! :thumbsup2

Michael had NO originality at all! I thought his designs were safe and boring and something you could find at any mainstream department store now. I was shocked MANY times this season when the judges loved his stuff.

Andy's final garments were so not his best, other than the green dress with the pleating. I'm hoping his collection is more thought out. I do like him.

I'm not a Gretchen-hater, I don't love her clothes but I think she is creative and has a vision. I do feel bad for her that she is struggling so hard financially and wonder if she has to give up designing or will really make it.

Mondo is a true talent and if he DOESN'T win, I will be shocked. He deserves it.

Can anyone answer my question about how the typical design school graduate actually makes a living at it? I mean, if you go to Parsons or Savanah, then can you interview for a design job at Ann Taylor or the Gap or something?

I think there's a big difference in trying to pursue a career in sports vs trying to pursue a career in fashion.

What makes you think that Michael, or any of the other designers don't sew for people on the side? While maybe that's not going to get them noticed on a runway, it can certainly be a way to support themselves and their families.

When my DD was in my SIL's wedding, a woman designed and sewed her dress. She also designs and sews all of the area head majorette costumes for the HSs. She doesn't come cheap, but she does amazing work and her client base has grown through word of mouth.

If she can support herself and her family in Scranton, PA, others can surely support themselves in Palm Springs, Denver or Hawaii.

In the past, the tatoo-laden winner and the Asian woman both had successful businesses before they started the show. All it takes is some ingenuity to start a business when you know how to design AND sew.
