Princess Weekend 2022

The themes for Princess and W&D are pretty similar to previous years. My bet is that with all the rD employees furloughed until very recently, they haven't had time to draw up brand new marketing campaigns.

I'm just grateful that the races are back considering the short timeline they had.

I'm a little disappointed in the race "princesses" if these are going to be the same ones. The Moana and Cinderella graphics are exactly the same as the 2020 race, and Tiana is the same rendering as the 2021 race. Even the presentation of the Princesses on the announcement looks just like 2020.
In 2019 they had Mulan on the 10K. There are so many princesses, why not mix it up a bit.
Anyway, I'm sure I'll be there since I love that weekend.

I am hoping at least they change what the princess is running so for example Moana will not be 5k since she was 5k last year, etc... so we get chances at newish medals at least

The logo for Princess 2022 is pretty much identical to 2020. The Princesses on the 2020 logo went in this order:
Pocahontas (10K)
Cinderella (Half)
Moana (5K)
Fairies (Challenge)

Of course we don't know what this year will bring, but if it follows the same race order as the 2020 logo there'll be a lot of duplicates!
Mulan (10K - same as 2019)
Cinderella (Half - same as 2020)
Moana (5K - same as 2020)
Tiana (Challenge - same as virtual 2021)

Either way I'm planning to register, and I'll be happy to be there experiencing a live runDisney race again!

Today I had to cancel all travel plans for August, some because USA did not reopen the border to Canadians and some because Canada requires a pre-departure test and we do not want a surprise quarantine in Florida even though we are all fully vaccinated.

I am booking refundable flights, resorts, etc for the Princess Weekend / March Break but I am now wondering if that pre-departure test will still be required in 2022. Do you know if there is a cancel for any reason insurance that can be bought with the runDisney registration? It is hard to plan to buy non refundable bibs when we have no idea what the requirements might be (especially since it probably would be 2 HM and 1 Challenge $$$). TIA

Any great places to get costumes? Or do you make your own? I’m thinking of Aurora.

Etsy if you want to buy. Pinterest if you’re crafty, want to DIY, and want to spend less money (theoretically 😂 )

I’m (hopefully) testing out a tutu I made when I do my 5mi run today. I went for a Merida theme. Didn’t come out quite how I wanted, and I have a few other things I’d like to add to it, but it’s a good starting point. I got everything g from JoAnn, but have been told “tulletastic” has the best tulle for tutus (I guess it’s a lot softer)

Costumes run the full gamut from near professional quality to more like disneybounding style with clothes you can get at a local store. Seeing what people come up with is one of my favorite parts of these races.
Etsy is a gold-mine. You can find just about anything there with prices that range from reasonable to OMG, I can't pay that much for something I'm going to exercise in!! Personally, I don't do real "costumes" because I need comfortable proper running clothes. I have ordered from Sparkle athletic before - cute and more of a nod to a character. My husband found a shirt he liked on amazon for the star wars HM so might be worth a shot.
For W&D I ordered a tank top from an etsy seller called sundaymorningactive. The reviews are great and it seems like actual athletic material. I'll use my own shorts but I also ordered a stretchy headband from amazon and a new pair of shoes that complete the outfit. I'll use the shoes after the race but I didn't have any that really fit my color scheme and can't we all use more running shoes?!

It looks awesome! I love those colors.

This is the current product. I already have a teal tank top that I know I can run in. Will be wearing Capri leggings I know I don’t have problems running in under it. And I have an orange headband out for delivery (and I got the orange NB 880s on Tuesday.) the gold underneath is going to get shortened as needed, but I do like how it looks when it’s longer than the teal.

I’m going to put a big bow on the back, a la Dottie for Running skirts, but probably put it on a snap so I can remove it if I want to. I’m still figuring that part out.

If everything goes well I’m going to wear it for my half in 2.5 weeks. 😬

My mom actually makes running costumes and has a shop on Etsy... I guarantee I will hit her up for something for Princess Weekend and actually probably Marathon Weekend too. I have also bought printed princess running tights on zazzle, which I ran the virtual Princess Half in last year because it was freezing. I've done DIY stenciling of designs I made with my crafty mom's help too. As @HangWithMerida said you will see all kinds from people just wearing the "colors" of a princess to a full getup with tiara and accessories to match.

What is your mom’s Etsy shop? I’d love to check it out!

I haven't gone so far as to actually buy anything for princess yet. I feel like I'm jinxing myself if I don't have a confirmed registration! But, true to my name, I will probably do Merida. I'm also a redhead, so I feel like I want to be a redheaded princess and Merida is more my personality than Ariel. But I am considering the challenge, so I may do Ariel too!

I'll DM you when you have enough posts here, I see you're new. Not to be weird but this site does not allow advertising in posts and I have seen them give suspensions for way less obvious stuff than naming the name of a shop of a family member.

Gosh I didn’t know that. Thanks for filling me in!

I'd be interested too!

I imagine the stuff on sale at the Expo is overpriced?

I don't know about that actually... Depends on your idea of overpriced. Raw Threads is usually there and I don't find their things to be overpriced. They're good quality. Sparkle Skirts is always there too but I don't know how much it costs or how good the products are.
Etsy stuff is often hand made while the vendors at the expo more often offer mass-produced stuff. So Etsy things can definitely be more expensive. I guess "overpriced" and "expensive" mean 2 different things though. You can still pay too much for something that was mass produced even if it was cheaper than a one-of-a-kind item. I don't know the answer to this. Of course if you wait until the expo to get a race outfit, you're kind of forced to get what they have. I'd plan ahead.

Yea agreed, I'd be wary of using something new from the race expo. Or at least heading into the race expecting that. The mantra of "nothing new on race day" comes to mind. Never know how that new tank or skirt will rub the wrong way. One bad seam location can ruin a run.

Oh yes absolutely, nothing new on race day :) I was thinking more of keepsakes to buy. I was just curious if the stuff that vendors sell at the Expo is marked up compared to buying it in a regular store or online.
