Has anyone here used Priceline? Any horror stories? Would you recommend it? I am thinking about using it but I want to know the real deal.

We used priceline for the first time last month. The hotel reservation was absolutely fine and we had so problems with the charges. I'd definitely use Priceline again.

I've used priceline numerous times over the last few years. Always for hotel rooms. I've tried bidding on car rentals but was never successful.

I would recommend going to biddingfortravel.com for some tips on bidding. It was an excellent resource a couple of years ago, (I haven't been to the site recently).

I never had a problem with the hotel and/or hotel room. Some deals were much better than others. I enjoyed the anticipation of finding out whether my bid was accepted.

I'd go for it if you're not looking for a hotel on site - although some of the hotels on Hotel Plaza Blvd come up sometimes in Priceline. You may get lucky and get one of those.

Good luck!

Thanks y'all. Has anybody used it for airline tickets? The trip is paid for but I am realizing that I am not in New Orleans anymore(lol). AIRLINE TICKETS ARE A LOT MORE EXPENSIVE HERE.

Considerations for PL air
1. You have NO control. You can (and probably will) wind up arriving in MCO late at night and departing at the crack of dawn.
2. NO changes. None of the pay the $50 change fee stuff, NO changes
3. According to some things I have read on the various travel message boards SOME airlines do not allow advance seat selections. Since you won't know which airline you are getting you will have no way of knowing if this is going to happen to you. If you must sit with your kid or partner this is NOT the way to go.

Have you tried SW out of Love Field?

I just used priceline for airfare two weekends ago for an emergency trip home. I did receive non stops flights--the one going left at 12:20 in the afternoon but the one coming home was 9:40 at night. The flight coming home was overbooked and I was #5 on the waitlist. I did make it onto the flight however. I could not check in online and could not receive seat assignments until gate checkin--although I could check my bag at the main counter.

That being said: I picked my travel dates as the day BEFORE I had to be there and the day after I had to leave. This worked out ok for me. I would NEVER use them if I was really trying to stick to a timetable. All they guarantee is that the flight will START between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm and have no more than 1 layover--unless you choose otherwise.

I would use them again if I could be flexible enough with my plans.

I think SW has gone ego-trippin(lol). It's cheaper to fly AA from DFW than to go SW. That hurts because I prefer flying SW than any other airline. I was hoping to fly for 3-hundred something as oppsed to 4-hundred and something. These flight rates are ridiculous. I have been waiting for a DING for the longest and I haven't gotten anything. I don't know how much longer I should wait.
