Pressed Pennies, where to get change

Is there a convenient place to get a bunch or quarters and pennies at resorts or parks?

Any cash register in a gift shop or City Hall at MK can make change for you. I think City Hall can even sell you rolls of pennies. They are very used to making change for the machines.

If you can snag pennies in advance of your trip you will be much better off. Pennies beginning in 1982 switched from the copper to a copper shell stuffed with zinc. The pennies in 1982 and after don't look as good as those before. All Ears.net has a great write up: except here:


Depending on what penny you use, you may get a smear of zinc (silver looking metal). In 1982, pennies were made with both copper and zinc. Suggest you use pre-1982 pennies.


You might want to get the design pressed onto the "face" of the penny because the "tail" side sometimes leaves parts of the monument and you end up with an incomplete image.


Generally, if you insert the penny so that the "face" side is to the right, that is the side that will be pressed with the design. Also the quarter to the far left tends to be the quarter that gets pressed in Quarter Presses.

according to my notes, there are change machines (quarters) at the following places:
mk: under the MS railroad, f. shooting gallery, tomorrowland power and light, splash m. gift shop

epcot: living seas gift shop, the land near garden grill

ak: inside rain forest cafe (takes $5 and under bills)

HS: pizza planet arcade(who knows if it will be there after reopening), mickeys of hollywood, TOT, prop shop

DS: inside rainforest cafe ($5 and under bills only)

Your mileage may vary. pennies can be had at most retail locations provided you don't ask for a lot. personally, i'm bringing all our change pre stacked in decorated m&m tubes.

Not an answer to your question, but a suggestion. We always took our quarters and pennies with us - put them in a mini M&M container. They fit perfectly - layer 2 quarters and one penny - makes it very easy to carry and purchase your pressed pennies.

That can look strange on an airport xray though. I got my carryon search throughly because of the tube of pennies and quarters - I know what triggered it because I asked the TSA agent. So after that I put them in a ziplock bag and put that and the empty tube in the carryon. It was never searched again for that reason. And then when I got to my gate, I put the change into the M&M Tube.

Some penny and quarter machines have a change machine near them. I recommend using them if you want because $1 gives you 4 quarters and 1 penny.
