Premium Plan for One Night Just for the Tours, LaNouba, etc.??

We have to cancel our entire trip. My sister's just too sick to go at this point.

I'm wondering if we modify the dates of our package for next year, will they honor the one-night package instead of the new 3-nights minimum ?

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you can get your one-night package rescheduled... let us know if they let you do that.

Sugarglider, did you really rearrange your whole trip? You sound like me (though I've been resisting my urges and staying put). I do hope you'll still be joining us on the Wishes cruise.

And it's good to learn about the suit jacket loans. My husband has been grumpy about having to haul one along, and is more than happy to take a loaner.

Hey everyone,

I am thinking about doing a short trip to Disney area for my birthday next month and thought this might be a nice thing to include. I have some questions though...

1. Anyone ever done this plan solo? Is it weird eating at fancy places alone?

2. Can I get this booked and planned out in time for my trip (November 9th-13th)?

Any tips?? thoughts??

I am about to do platinum solo for the 1st time - but have travelled solo a couple of times. The good thing about solo is that you do exactly what you want when you want - no one else to slow you down or distract the plan.

When eating alone, there are a number of strategies:

    • some places have a bar (either drinking or kitchen view) - either way you can watch a lot of action by the CMs.
  • sit so you can watch the other guests
  • take something to read

The CMs have universally been very pleasant and when not so busy I have had nice conversations with some. Tourist destinations have heaps of solo travellers and it is only as weird as you decide it is.

Re: getting it booked and planned out in time - well - that depends on how much planning you feel the need to do. You haven't mentioned if you are doing premium or platinum - with platinum the IPO will make all the bookings for you - which takes some work away. But you still have to plan it all out. Your only other concern is if tours / activities are all booked out. Once you know which activities you want to do, perhaps call WDW Tours and just ask them if there is any availability - then you'll know whether it is worth your while

The majority of tours and activities are on during the week - so look at the Thur, Fri, Sat days as your best options.

No way Kungaloosh - kept the bookings for V&A and the cruise that night! :thumbsup2

c ya real soon!

The restaurant will tailor the meal for you if you sit at Chefs Table, but it is a la carte for the Dining room - although I am sure they will accommodate a particular need. If you go to the V&A website you can preview the menu and you can see that there are many choices including beef and pork. And I promise - buffalo isn't that different from beef!

Whilst a jacket is required for men, tie is optional.

I am sure you will have a lovely lovely dinner and find plenty that you enjoy!

V&A did indeed call us and tailor the menu - and we were not at the chef's table.

I do not eat seafood and my menu did not have a stitch of seafood while DH's had seafood choices for every course!

Gee - I have never had a phone call from them on previous trips - and no call on my upcoming up one either. I can think of two differences: `1. I am international and perhaps that makes me unworthy. and 2. Did you note in your booking that you had dietary requirements - as you note above you don't eat seafood. whereas I have not declared any. Just wondering if that is one way to generate a call

Thanks so much for the replies! Just an update, V&A called me today which is exactly 5 days before our reservation (so don't give up sugarglider!), and she was just confirming the reservation and asked if we had any dietary restrictions... while I had her on the phone, I threw in there about how picky we were and she went through the menu for this week and said we would have many options to choose from.

One last question... did I read that tip is included in the price? I was just trying to ballpark how much we need for each dinner in tips. Thanks!

Thanks for the tips! I am debating between platinum and staying at AKL for total splurge or premium and all stars music. I've traveled solo before and don't mind that but never ate somewhere fancy before alone. I ate at Yak and Yeti in the summer and that was ok since it was sooooo busy.

I was thinking of staying the 10th Thursday for the night since the rooms are a little cheaper on the week nights too.

Getting excited now...might take the plunge!

Anyone get a call about this"

"I got a call two days ago from Disney telling me that our reservation at Epcot DiveQuest could not be honored because they were having to suspend it indefinitely. They said it had to do with "animal safety" and it seemed to affect all the guest interaction programs at the Living Seas.

Any more news on cancelled tours? We are going early in Nov and I'm worried we won't be able to get anything decent if our Dolphins and AquaSeas are cancelled.

Any more news on cancelled tours? We are going early in Nov and I'm worried we won't be able to get anything decent if our Dolphins and AquaSeas are cancelled.

IPO told me they have no set date for the tours at The Seas to be back up and running. People on the other thread have been getting calls and they said it does not look like any will be going out this month:( I said what happens if both our Dolphins In Depth and Aqua Seas are canceled and they said not to worry at this time- the CM's would reschedule us if needed (We go the 1st week of November.) Well, that would mean 2012 or 2013 and I have no idea if they will honor that. Also, we have done most every tour except Wild Africa Trek and they will not sub that for the DID or AS tours (I asked.) So I have no idea what to do. I have been planning this for several months for our 15th anniversary and the only other tour we are doing is Wilderness Segway. We don't really want to repeat any tours as we have done many of them more than once already. So we basically have a whole day with nothing now (just dinner.) We are within our 45 days so I hate to cancel and get charged $200. Ugggggggggggg.....

If DID and AS are cancelled I feel like a lot of the value of our package is GONE. We didn't plan to use tickets that day either which really messes with my plans. I'd personally quite possibly want to cancel my PP if they won't have the tours available? There is really nothing they can sub for me because my daughter is 13 unless they would waive the age restriction on something. We opted to do the PP because of DID over Discovery Cove :( I wonder if they would waive the $200 and let me cancel? Cirque though is non-refundable???

Just had to share my excitement! I've been trying to book CRT for dinner with our premium package and finally got it today!

We're just under 50 days from our trip and I'm getting so excited!

If anyone has done the golf lessons, I would like to know if they were worthwhile and fun.

I just emailed IPO and asked about these two tours as I have both booked for the middle of November. I was told this is temporary and those who it is affecting have been notified. There is no other information as of now. So the waiting game it is for me. I'm still doing the plan I will just have more time for other stuff if these 2 tours end up being canceled.

Good Luck!

I sent an e-mail through the WDW web site (guest services) asking what to do. I do not want to be charged the $200 for canceling either but the only other tours we have not done are Wild Africa Trek (not on plan) and the holiday ones (that are not going on at our time.) DH is not interested in golf or fishing and this is his trip too. We have our Segway tour, massages, V&A, parasailing, horseback riding and jet ski tour booked for the day before. So we have one empty day.

I have read on a few other boards that the filtration system is having issues and the water was red the other day! I guess The Seas has needed work for a long time and they kept putting it off.

I'm finally posting after our absolutely fantastic vacation in August! We had a wonderful time, spending 1 night at the Royal Pacific resort (Universal) and 2 days at Universal IOA (WWoHP is amazing!) followed by 9 glorious nights TPV at the Poly. We did a 1 night Platinum plan in the middle of our trip. We ended up keeping our 9 night reservation and surprising my BIL and his partner with a night (GV-CL) at the Poly, including Platinum. We just put all 5 names on the reservation. Not as cheap as possible, but less expensive than booking 2 separate rooms with Platinum packages. I actually haven't run through all the numbers to see how much (if anything) we saved, but in retrospect, we had such an awesome time that we are considering doing it again in the future (3 night minimum and all!). :scared1:

Anyway, we actually accomplished everything we set out to do on the itinerary except for boat rental at the resort. The only reason that didn't happen was because it was raining - we had plenty of time and energy, just too much rain and lightning! Overall, our 2 days went like this:

Day 1

1. Check in for Platinum package (early) - Check in was a breeze except that the front desk guy couldn't find the key to unlock the cabinet to get our La Nouba vouchers. Eventually he did - he was super nice the whole time and I felt bad for him that he was getting so flustered. DH headed off to EPCOT for 8:30 Segway tour while DD and I walked over to GF Spa. A beautiful walk, especially early in the morning. Had a little trouble finding the spa with the construction walls up - actually walked past it and had to double back, but no big deal. First snafu - they hadn't booked our spa appointments properly. We were doing massages, mani/pedis, and DD was doing My First Facial. They didn't have me booked for a mani/pedi. This was the ONLY reservation of our trip that I let the concierge desk handle - I should have done it myself. After getting just a little firm with them, the guy miraculously is able to get a technician to come in to do a mani/pedi for me. Hooray! The spa was divine and all of our servicers (what would they be called?) were great - except the one that did DD's mani/pedi. She was OK, but not very patient. I get that DD is only 10, but they shouldn't offer "My First..." spa services if they don't want to provide them, KWIM? When we checked out, they were only going to use 2 of our Platinum credits - they quickly fixed it to use my DH's credit for one of my services, so it all ended well. The front desk staff was a bit snooty, IMHO - pleasant enough, but while looking down their noses at you.

DH loved the Segway tour so much that he now wants to buy a Segway. Go figure.

2. Return to Poly to pop the surprise to BILs! As we were walking back from the spa, my BIL called to tell me they were pulling into the parking lot. DH had already texted that he was on his way back from EPCOT, so we were bound to meet at our room within just a few minutes of each other - perfect timing! One BIL was in on the surprise - the other was stunned. It was so cool getting to surprise him like that. He is a CM and has done so much for us over the years - free park entry, party tickets, room discounts, etc. We ventured over to their room in the Hawaii building then grabbed a quick lunch at Captain Cooks (and got our mugs!). The place was PACKED - I think because it was raining - so we took our food over to the Hawaii building and had lunch in their room. We were planning to rent boats but the rain kept us from it. That is the main complaint I have with Captain Cook's - the dining room is too dang small. Enjoyed it in every other way though.

DH loved the Dole Whips so much he wants a Dole Whip machine at home. Go figure.

3. Monorail to MK then boat to Ft. Wilderness - the transportation went without a hitch. Very cool boat ride and the rain let up to an occasional sprinkle.

4. Hoop Dee Doo Revue (5 pm show) - what more can I say? We loved the show, the food, everything. A great time was had by all.

5. Carriage ride at Ft. Wilderness - we got out of HDDR a few minutes after 7 pm and I had booked a carriage ride for 7:30 (or maybe 7:45). The carriage was just sitting there when we got out of HDDR, so we wandered over and started chatting with the driver. I told her we had a reservation but it wasn't time yet - she said to hop on in! Now, there were 5 of us in the carriage and technically it is for 4 adults. DD is 10 and there was plenty of room for all of us in the carriage. The carriage ride was lovely and it makes me want to do it at Halloween and Christmas even more! And, FYI, the carriage drivers cannot accept tips.

6. Boat to MK then to GF for Wishes fireworks cruise - no transportation issues - the plan worked smoothly and we got to GF with plenty of time to spare. Lounged around in an upstairs seating area before heading down for the cruise. Snafu #2 - we couldn't find the right boat dock. We were directed to the MK ferry dock, which I knew wasn't right. On the up side, we saw some of the EWP from the dock. Eventually, we figured out where to go and made it just in time. Our captain said she had almost given up on us. It wouldn't have been a problem if we would have scouted out ahead of time or if we had been more familiar with the GF layout. The fireworks cruise was S-P-E-C-T-A-C-U-L-A-R. I can't put into words what a good time we had. We cruised around the lagoon for awhile, heard crazy frog noises from the island, then parked to watch the fireworks. So cool. Our captain was even nice enough to drive us back and drop us off at the Poly so we wouldn't have to monorail back. Thanks Katie! :thumbsup2

7. Headed to bed - see next post for Day 2....

ajh88--where did you catch the boat for the fireworks? I'm going for a day on the Platinum next month and that would be a good thing to know.

I loved your report on what you have done. What fun! Can't wait to read the rest.

Day 2

1. Slept in a tiny bit and headed over to MK for breakfast at CRT (10 am reservation) - we've been there before but still enjoyed the meal. Felt a *little* tired from the day before, but nothing too terrible.

2. Monorailed to EPCOT for Seas Aqua tour - the adults really enjoyed the tour - DD did NOT. She just got freaked out by everything - the equipment, the depth of the tank, the sharks - you name it, she freaked about it. The tour guide was very patient with her and by the end, she had actually put her face under water and swam a bit, but not much (albeit more than I thought she would at the beginning!). We still had fun and she laughs about it now. I think we might try Dolphins in Depth in the future - towards the end, she got out of the tank and a helper had taken her over to watch the Dolphins while DH and I snorkeled around some more. I will say that all of our guides were fantastic and DD liked the tour itself - she just didn't like the water part. And I'll admit, even I found using the regulator and equipment a little cumbersome and I'm a good swimmer. We showered at EPCOT then had to walk to the monorail in a MONSOON - so much rain!

DH loved it so much he wants some SCUBA equipment. Go figure.

3. Monorailed back to MK then to the Poly - changed clothes and chillaxed in the room for awhile. BIL had checked out and transferred to Coronado Springs (they live in downtown Orlando, so they wanted to stay close by for that night and the next day). They were able to get a late check out from the Poly (1 pm), so the timing worked out alright (1 BIL went and checked out and missed the Aqua Seas tour - I think he was scared). ;)

4. Drove to DTD for La Nouba - OMG, how have I not seen this show before now!?! We sat in the last row of the front section (Category 1) and it was incredible! When the bicycle rider goes around that middle concourse, DD's seat was the one he stopped right by (she still thinks he almost hit her - he didn't). We had so much fun! We had popcorn as a snack during the show since we didn't really eat a proper lunch (just a late breakfast) - which was OOP.

5. Drove to YC for dinner at the Yachtsman. We enjoyed dinner with each other, but I was underwhelmed by the meal. It was OK, but not spectacular. I'm glad we have tried it so now we know, but we probably won't be back.

6. Ended our Platinum Days - all in all, we had a great time. I am so happy that everything worked out timing wise and I never felt like we were rushed or anything. I'm so happy I found this thread and the intestinal fortitude to plan the trip. It was a great challenge that paid off for us in the form of an unforgettable experience!

I loved your report on what you have done. What fun! Can't wait to read the rest.

At the Grand Floridian, it is called the "Captain's Shipyard". I couldn't tell you how to get to it for sure - basically, if you are walking towards the dock where the ferry takes you to MK, go left, past the Sugar Loaf building (I believe), and it is around the other side. Those probably aren't very good directions, but if you ask for the Captain's Shipyard, someone will know where to point you.

Also, make sure you know which resort your cruise leaves from - I originally thought it was the Contemporary but checked our itinerary the day before and saw it was GF. I guess cruises leave from multiple places.

When doing the premium pkg in the meddle of a stay is there any advantage or disadvantage to usingt he online check for the three reservations (room only, 1 night premium then 5 nights after?
