Hi I'm new here and going to WDW in May. I will be 6 months pregnant and read that pregnant women should not ride the Kilimanjaro Safari. Any ideas why? Too bumpy? Also any other tips for pregnant women?

The safari is great, but it is extremely bumpy and tosses you around in the seat alot. I don't think I would ride it at that stage of pregnancy.

If you do decide to ride - be sure to ask to sit in the first seat behind the driver. This is the least jolting place to sit. The further back you go, the more rough the ride is.

I had been on Kilamanjaro safari numerous times, and so when I was pregnant (4 months along) last time, I went ahead and rode it-I knew what I was getting in to, and I thought it was fine. I have hit bigger pot holes in the rode driving than I had on that ride.

But do whatever seems right to you. I mostly avoided anything with a higher ht restriction and had talked to my docter, who obviously told me to avoid roller coasters or anything with spinning (like the mad teacups).

Have a nice trip and don't be afraid to sit and rest when you need to! Eat well, rest, and drink lots of fluids! Have fun! :wave2:

:earsgirl: My daughter went to WDW when she was pregnant last year and because we had been there before she knew which warnings were just being overly cautious. The safari wasn't that bad you just have to brace yourself in the seat so you can move with the bumps. Just be sure to take care of yourself and remember the benches are in the parks for a reason! :flower:

::yes::
ITA! The front is quite a bit less bumpy a ride than the back.

But if this won't be your last trip to WDW, then you really won't be missing anything because you can come back with your little prince or princess and enjoy the ride together sitting side by side instead of the little one inside. :)

I went when I was 6 months pregnant and though I didn't ride the safari, wanted to point out that there are many rides/movies that they will allow you to sit in a regular chair along side the moving car or whatever. I didn't know this and was planning on missing a lot of the 3D type movies because of the jolting, etc. One of the CM's offered me a chair to sit next to the ride and it was cool. He told me to ask at some of the other rides/movies and they did the same thing. Cool, I thought. Wouldn't have expected it.

Good luck!!

Oddly enough, I think your concern should be about The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. I know, weird right. I went at 5mo and my stomach was so big I had to sit by myself and sort of sideways, well, when the honeypot starts bouncing, I was just close enough to the safety bar that it sort of rubbed my stomach but I didn't like it at all. Something to think about

I was just about to post a pregnancy tips Please type of question myself. I'll be 5.5 months pregnant myself.

We were just there in Sept. and I can't see why Kilamjaro Safari's would be off limits either. I nursed the baby through it last Sept.--twice, and if things weren't "perfect", he wouldn't eat. I didn't find it overly bumby; we were at the back once and the front once and it was the same ride movement wise.

Any other tips, help, information would be appreciated.

I will be just over 6 months pregnant when I go at the end of April. I've been to WDW many times before, so I know I won't be missing anything if I decide not to do it. If I am questioning it, I think I'll skip it. Better safe than sorry, I always say.

I plan on bringing my own bottles of water to drink (I'll have DS's stroller for easy storage). I plan on taking breaks to just sit and rest and I also plan at least 1 sit down meal per day. I invested in 2 great pair of sandals...One Teva and one Nike Straprunner. We are staying on site and going back to the hotel every afternoon for a rest/nap and/or swim to refresh. And we plan on just heading back to the room every night about 9 or 10 to hit the hay. We are taking one day off in the middle also.

Good luck to you, and enjoy!

I will be 6.5 months pg when I go next month. I am watching this thread for tips also. I was last at WDW when dd was 3 yr and ds was 3 months. I skipped the K. Safari bc of the newborn being concerned with holding onto him, but have since heard of many all stages pg, and all ages newborns riding it with no issues. Dd was very sad to miss it last time, and I am anxious to see it also having only been to AK once for a few hrs.

I was 5 mos. pregnant at my last visit to WDW. I followed all the Disney warnings on the signs. If they said, no pregnant women...I didn't ride the ride. Wasn't worth the risk.

For those asking for other tips from pregancy at WDW-Visit the baby care centers in each park if you think you will be returning in the next year or so with your new baby. It is nice to see what they have and offer so you know what to bring/not to bring next time.

Also, obviously avoid hot tubs at your hotel if you are pregnant-just a tip because last time I saw a pregnant woman in the hot tub at CBR and I know that is not recommeded while pregnant. (Although I did stick my toes in the hot tub to ease my aching feet!)

Try the Dole Whips (the fruit-frozen snack!) available in the parks for a cool treat without all the fat or without chocolate or ice cream. It is a refreshing, fruity frozen drink that I think hits the spot!

Remember to try to put your feet up a bit each day for circulation-I used a bench and then pulled an area chair over when I needed a break, like while the others rode a roller coaster, etc.-Nobody is gonna ask to take a chair from a pregnant woman! :rotfl:
