I've just been looking through my paperwork for my 10/9 cruise and noticed that I have a prepaid gratuity figure included in my overall amount paid?

Does this mean I've already paid the recomended amount to servers / hosts etc?

Who have you booked with Ian? A lot of the Uk operators offer this and yes it means you have paid the recommended amount - you can decide to add more if you want. What happens with us (done 4 Magic cruises so far) is that usually on the Thurs our stateroom attendant leaves envelopes in our room with the vouchers showing the tip amount - you just put the vouchers into the appropriate envelopes.

Ditto, booking last time with a UK operator (Sir Richards lot) We had prepaid tips, and on the Thursday we recieved vouchers to put into envelops for all of the servers etc. We added a bit to the people who worked extra hard

I have booked my next DCL with a USA agency so I will have ot pay the tips myself this time!

On our first three cruises, I booked direct with DCL and was able to pre-pay gratuities (only available to non-US citizens, I think). Got vouchers and envelopes on the last night. All very painless! This year we booked thru DU and had to budget for the tips
But the saving on the cruise cost was definitely worth it :hyper:

Booked direct with DCL both last Oct cruise and this Oct. Last Year they didn't incl tips this year they did.
I asked them to remove them because even though I expect the service to be exceptional there is always the chance of poor service, all you have to do is read some of the posts to find examples of both.
I will tip my own amount not what Disney want me to tip.

Just want to add when I rebooked onboard they offered to add the tips onto the price. I declined as my TA is excellent and he seems to get a better deal. Got the invoice today and even with the tips included he is far less than what I was quoted onboard and what I was quoted by dreams the first day the Mexican cruises came out!

with DCL and it does seem to be something they use for UK customers which indicates that it could be something to do with tipping habits (or lack of).

Whilst this is a pleasant surprise (as I didn't realise I'd already paid this) I would rather be in full control of the tip amount and reward good service where I find it.

you can certainly go to Guest Services at any time to adjust the tips according to your service received or add cash to any you want to reward extra instead.
