Pre-Cruise Hotel -- Stay Near Port?

We'll be cruising out of Port Canaveral 6/25 and need a hotel in the area for Saturday night. For our last cruise we stayed at the Hampton Inn in Titusville. It worked just fine for us. There wasn't much nearby, but we found a place to grab dinner and a grocery store along the way for last minute items. However, we're wondering if there is any advantage to staying closer to the Port this time around? We'll be staying around the Savannah/Jacksonville area the night before, so we should be in the area around lunchtime. If we could have a view of the ships, have easy access to the ocean or there is something fun to do with the kids (1 & 5), we'd be willing to spend more. Thoughts and/or suggestions on the best place to stay?

Never stayed in the area but This might be up your alley based on my google-fu. Holiday Inn Club Vacations Cape Canaveral Beach Resort. It looks like you could see the ships from a distance, and is walking distance to the beach and the state park is right there too, so you can see the Fantasy Sail out on Saturday. A few restaurants are always near by the port too. They might even have a stay and cruise program.

Great suggestion! I looked it up and it'd be great, but no rooms available for the night needed. Bummer! :(

May just have to check back periodically to see. There are others in the area as well based on the Google map but I don't think they would offer the same view, but with a car it is easy enough to to pop in for a quick trip.

We always stay at the Country Inn & Suites near the port. They have a park & shuttle package that you can add on. Free breakfast, too!

This hotel does look nice! Can you see the ships or is it close to the beach? Good shopping or restaurants nearby? Just trying to decide if it's worth the extra ~$65 (compared to hotel in Titusville).

You can see the ships if you go up to the 4th floor and look out the windows. The beach or ship canal is actually very close. This hotel is very close to the terminals. We always head to the port area for dinner the night before the cruise. We have personally had dinner at Rusty's, Ocean Grill (I think), and our favorite, Fish Lips. Ron Jon's is down the street a few miles in Cocoa Beach. There are all kind of shops, restaurants along the way in Cocoa Beach.
