Prawn Heads & Cupcakes & Soups, Oh My! 10/5 Complete (now with my Dining Wish List)!

It's sad that the breakfast was not as good as lunch. :sad2: When I don't have many choices and forced to order a burger or sandwich, I too, tend to concentrate on the protein and discard the bun. :thumbsup2

Did they happen to have some sides that could be ordered for breakfast? Like grits, I think I saw somewhere? I'm sure DH is going to be intrigued by the egg white fritatta and the chicken burger, but all the choices are too big for me. I'll stick to a smoothie if sides are not available.

Cheeseburger and fries for breakfast are probably no worse for you than one of my favorite breakfasts- chocolate cake. I do like the idea of naan bread for breakfast.:thumbsup2

My Hubby was just drooling over ur egg burger. It's pretty much one of his favorite things ever!:rotfl: When I said it's @ our Resort & it's BREAKFAST he got even more excited!:rotfl2: The fact you conquered so much before that burger makes it ok for breakfast.;)

Well you saved me a trip to AoA. We were thinking of having breakfast there before going to DTD for the day but the menu/food do not appeal to me. Maybe I will just go to a TS at a resort instead.

Any suggestions? Already going to Kona, Boma, Olivia's and Capt Grill and probably Kouzzina although I have not added it in yet. Where would you pick?

Mmmm... I was so torn between Kona & Olivia's for breakfast & this post & the egg burger inspired ME to book both! LOL!! If my DH gets that egg burger than I get both Kona & Olivia's. Kouzzina looks YUM!! :thumbsup2

Interesting bkfst options they have at AoA definately...

And the names of the "shops"...some of them really did not go together.

On the plus side, you got a lot accomplished in your morning :)

I totally understand your aversion to grease. I hate it when something is cooked with too much grease because it just ruins it. Btw, what was the sauce in your breakfast platter, DDW? I love having butter chicken with my naan, :)
The sauce was a tandoori sauce - I liked it because it was slightly sweet and tangy. :thumbsup2

You've already got my favorite Disney breakfast (Boma) picked. Kouzzina is definitely a place where I've enjoyed breakfast before (as are Kona and Captain's Grille), but what about Grand Floridian Cafe or The Wave? I really like The Wave's sweet potato pancakes (or even the buffet), and they have some menu options. Grand Floridian Cafe, on the other hand, has a very bright, pleasant atmosphere, and it also has some unique menu items. Overall, my advice would be to pick whichever menu sounds most appealing to you. :)

I was actually very surprised by your burger/egg 2nd breakfast and not much surprises me!! I read the review of the platter and saw that it wasn't your favorite and then I glanced at the next photo expecting it to be your lunch. So when I read that you got right back in line to order that burger with an egg it really made me smile! Good for you for limiting yourself but if that was in front of me right now I would eat the heck out of that burger AND the fries that go with it! You're kind of my idol for ordering two breakfasts :worship: (even though you didn't eat a ton of it). Just seeing your two breakfasts makes up for my meal of veggies that I ate one night. :rotfl2:
Yep, I have no shame in ordering a second breakfast - even something as excessive as that burger and fries. Although next time, my goal is to find a dish that I'd be happy to finish. :lmao:

Yep - there were quite a few sides on the breakfast menu! Each station has some unique sides - for example, whichever one had the "World of Flavors" meal (I can't remember the name ) offered tandoori potatoes or Portuguese sausage as a side. Other available sides are grits, oatmeal, chicken sausage, and turkey bacon.

Chocolate cake for breakfast - now that's a good idea! :rotfl:

That's awesome - now he already has one breakfast at the resort that he can look forward to! :goodvibes And yeah, it was a busy morning, so I really needed some protein to keep me going.

I totally agree with you and the bacon at Disney it's gross!
I'm not a huge fan of traditional bacon in the real world (I actually prefer turkey bacon), but that Disney stuff is especially unappealing.

Kona is always recommended on this site, and while I've never been to Olivia's for breakfast, I've heard good things about it. Enjoy! :)

Yep, it was a wonderful morning overall! The food was probably the least memorable part. :lmao:

Wow! Love the descriptions!!
I'm so glad you're enjoying the reviews! :goodvibes

Interesting breakfast choices at AoA! I don't like fried eggs but that chicken burger with the green chili omelet sounds yummy! I don't love traditional breakfast food so that is something right up my alley!

Hi! Long time lurker of your reviews, but first time poster. Had to thank you for your AoA breakfast review - it is really making me want to book that resort on my next trip. I thought to myself too before you said it that the names of the sections wasn't that helpful so I bet many people agree!

We will be at AOA in Dec. our flight arrives so early, I thought of going there for breakfast that first day. I'm not sure now whether to go to downtown Disney or stay at the resort your thoughts?

That chicken burger does sound good! There are a lot of things at AoA that I'd be interested in trying - the variety is just so appealing. :)

Thanks for joining in! I'm so happy to hear that you've enjoyed some of my past reviews. :goodvibes As for AoA, the food court is very impressive, and it's a pretty big step above any other resort eatery. I'm interested in seeing how busy it'll be once the Little Mermaid section opens up!

Since you'll be staying at AoA, I would recommend eating at the food court for the sake of convenience. :thumbsup2 Wolfgang Puck Express gets very good breakfast reviews, but I wouldn't feel like going out of the way for it.

After breakfast at AoA, I headed back to DHS to use another fastpass, then I walked over to the Boardwalk. It was a tough walk (due to the torrential rain and lightning), but eventually things began to calm down and I decided to get a snack from the Bakery.

My choice was the strawberry cupcake, which looked quite appetizing behind the counter. As I took a seat and began to photograph it, a friendly cast member walked by and said, "that's the best cupcake ever!" I couldn't wait to find out if she was correct.

This treat consisted of light yellow cake, a creamy strawberry filling, and frosting. As you can see in the first pic, there were actually two different frostings that were swirled together - a white one, and a pink one.

At that moment in time, this was my favorite Disney cupcake of the trip. The strawberry flavor in the filling and frosting tasted natural to me (unlike in the Contempo cupcake), and the flavors were reminiscent of strawberry shortcake. I actually ate most of the frosting in this one, since the flavor was very enjoyable to me. :thumbsup2

Here's a picture from my table. The sky was beginning to clear, but you can still see how wet the boardwalk was:

From the Boardwalk, I headed to DisneyQuest - it was probably my first time there in at least seven years.

DisneyQuest used to seem so cool - in 2001, everything there blew me away with how unique and interactive it was. Now, however, the place feels like a joke. The bright purple interiors, the unappetizing smell of overly buttered popcorn, the unchanged attractions - the place has basically been decaying since the 90s. However, I really wanted to try out CyberSpace Mountain (where you can design a roller coaster and ride it in a simulator) - I've never gone upside down so many times on a Disney ride! After experiencing that attraction, I quickly exited DisneyQuest, hopefully never to return.

Since I was in DTD, I decided to return to Babycakes so I could try a cupcake. This one immediately stood out to me:

Hmm, a "french toastie" cupcake. My original plan was to stick to a fruity flavor (such as lemon), but this sounded really good. So as usual, I abandoned the plan and went with this instead!

IMG_5481.jpg

As I mentioned above, the strawberry cupcake at Boardwalk was the best Disney cupcake at this point in the trip. However, the "french toastie" cupcake might have been the best cupcake, period. Somehow, this treat managed to encapsulate the cinnamon and butter flavors that I enjoy in french toast, while also having a moist texture. The cinnamon sugar garnish on top added a crackly sensation that also reminded me of french toast, and overall this cupcake wasn't too sweet. Vegan or not, this is definitely something that would satisfy my dessert cravings at home. :goodvibes

Clearly, today is when the cupcakes really began to shine, and there are still some great ones to come. ;)

Here's one more random picture I had to share. Babycakes is located in the same building as Pollo Campero and Fresh A-Peel, and while this sign might not be thematically appropriate for Babycakes, I still thought it was awesome. So here's a shout out to any fans of cilantro and coriander out there (like me)! :rotfl:

Wow. French Toastie. Definitely something I want to try!!
If you try it, I hope your cupcake is as good as mine was! Babycakes receives relatively inconsistent reviews, and I haven't loved everything from there. As such, the snacks there are somewhat 'risky' (although they definitely have the potential to be wonderful). :thumbsup2

Wow, both your cupcake choices look divine!! I'd definitely be up for trying either. I've read some very positive reviews of Babycakes lately and although I don't have any allergies or sensitivities, I'm still very interested in giving it a try. That French Toastie cupcake sounds like a great choice! Your reviews and amazing pics always make me feel like I'm right there, now if only I could manage a cyber-taste of some of those goodies I'd be one happy camper! :rotfl2:
