Prawn Heads & Cupcakes & Soups, Oh My! 10/5 Complete (now with my Dining Wish List)!

You are right, the menu at AP has never really done it for me, your reviews just make it look so much more appealing!

With that being said would you choose Jiko over Narcoossee's? We were very underwhelmed with Narcoossee's the one and only time we went but that was 2 years ago and your reviews have my mind ticking and I am really gung ho about giving it a second chance.

And Jiko, the first two times we were in love with place but the last time we were not so thrilled, but again that was 2 years ago and I seem to recall they have changed chefs since then?

Funny you mention Il Mulino because we are headed back there again this year...had to cancel Flying Fish for it, still not convinced that was a smart idea, but I do love the chicken and escarole dish and a shot of Limencello at the end of a meal makes everything alright in my book!
AP and Jiko are currently our two favorite signatures, and Jiko does have a new chef this year - Chef Jon. He was the previous chef at Yachtsman, where he made some exciting and creative changes to the menu. Overall, we've loved all three of our Jiko meals this summer. But Narcoossee's has also improved its menu in quite a few ways over the past year, IMO. If you pick whichever menu appeals to you most, I'm sure you'll have a good experience. :thumbsup2

I love your plan (even though it didn't work out when you were staying at BWV and wanted to do FF :laughing). And those Roaring Fork waffles are a must!

Good point, I hadn't thought of that. :scratchin Perhaps I must think of another strategy. :p

It's true the flavors are an escape. WDW can take you all over the world in a short time & the food is no exception. :goodvibes Wow, those berry desserts, look so much :cloud9: better than the strawberry milkshake I had today & my shake was pretty darn good! ;) Another great review!!

Those berry desserts were wonderful (especially the cobbler :cloud9:), but I love strawberry milkshakes and smoothies as well. I wish I had some strawberries in my room... (and a blender )

What I really appreciate about your reviews is that we get to see and get your impressions about rarer-ordered dishes. :flower3: Venison carpaccio, seafood hot-pot and berry cobbler in one meal, wow! :thumbsup2

Whew, all caught up reading your report. I have been slacking with my Dis Dining Board, due to work and a quick trip to LA and I couldn't resist DL :). Your AP review was awesome! It is one of those places I haven't been yet and want to try for a future trip. Heck I would love to just the inside of the WL, which is something I need to check of my to do list on this next trip.

I'm glad that you like to see some of the less-common dishes! I just try to pick things that sound interesting to me, and it usually works out. :)

Glad you're back! I hope you had a great time at DL - the whole resort sounds like it's better than ever, thanks to the DCA enhancements. :thumbsup2 And you should definitely check out WL - it's such a beautiful resort. :goodvibes

Mr. DDW I have something to show you!!!

One of my employees gave me these today after I mentioned cajeta in a dessert that tasted a bit "goaty"!! (Hmmm wonder where that story originated from??)

I could ship you some. :lmao:

I told you there is a big old goat head on the bottle. :)!

:scared1: :scared: That's way too much goat!

Although I have to say, the cajeta envinada sounds kind of interesting. Maybe in a few months I'll be brave enough to try some. :rotfl:

You were so right - if only I had seen one of those bottles before my meal. Oh well - it was still a fun cultural experience. :thumbsup2

The following day, there was no way I was sleeping in again! I woke up early and headed straight to EMH at Hollywood Studios, where I rode RnRC and ToT and also got a ToT fastpass for later. Then I zoomed off to Blizzard Beach, where I made it in time for park opening and rode Summit Plummet twice with virtually no wait. Just when I was about to relax in Melt-Away Bay (the wave pool)...it started raining. So I decided to leave the park, head back to DHS, and use my fastpass. Overall, a productive morning.

However, I hadn't eaten anything yet, and was working up quite an appetite with all those attractions. So I decided to check another meal off my list - Landscape of Flavors (Art of Animation's food court) for breakfast!

In case you're wondering, here's the breakfast menu.

IMG_5456.jpg

I made it to Landscape of Flavors at about 10:45am, and to my surprise, the place was packed. I'd never seen it so busy during either of my previous visits (and the Little Mermaid section wasn't even open yet!). So I headed to the shop with the shortest line (the 'French Toast' Shop) to pick up a World of Flavors breakfast platter. This platter includes scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, Portuguese sausage, bacon, and naan bread.

IMG_5458.jpg

Surprisingly, I didn't love this. The eggs were good, but I thought the potatoes were kind of salty. The bacon was typical Disney bacon (limp, greasy, and repulsive), so I didn't touch it. The sausage had a nice flavor to it, but it was a bit too fatty for me. The naan bread wasn't as warm as when I'd had it for lunch (possibly because they needed to have a lot prepared for the breakfast rush). Overall, the eggs were the only component I finished - the rest wasn't worth the calories.

This dish didn't excite me as much as the "World of Flavors" lunch options. However, I think I could've chosen better. Any of the other 'French Toast' Shop dishes would've probably been more enjoyable. In particular, the vegetarian sandwich sounds great: naan bread with cauliflower, spinach, and paneer cheese. :thumbsup2

Since I didn't make a huge dent in the platter, I was still hungry. Guess what that means...I got in line again and ordered something else! This time, I decided to try a breakfast burger at the 'Pancake' Shop (the names of these shops are really unhelpful :rotfl:).

The steak and egg breakfast burger includes an angus chuck burger topped with a fried egg, pepper jack cheese, and bacon, served with breakfast potatoes or house-seasoned fries. Because I had breakfast potatoes before, I opted to try the fries this time.

Burger close-up!

I was actually happier with this than the breakfast platter. However, I barely ate any of it. The burger with the egg on top was great, and the egg yolk was actually runny! I was impressed. :thumbsup2 As for the fries, they were delicious (with some tasty spices, such as paprika), but I cut myself off after a few.

Overall, the burger and egg were really tasty. But I didn't really need the cheese, greasy bacon, bun, or fries for breakfast, so once again I threw out most of the food. If the bacon doesn't gross you out, and if your idea of heaven includes cheeseburgers and french fries for breakfast, I highly recommend this dish.

I still think Art of Animation offers more interesting CS breakfasts than the typical resort. However, I need to come back a few more times to try out different things. Several dishes sound like they could be great: the create-your-own yogurt parfait or fruit bowl, the vegetarian breakfast sandwich, the egg white frittata (with spinach, tomato, tofu, and feta), or even the breakfast chicken burger (topped with pepper jack cheese and a green chili omelet). However, it might require trial and error to find something that I could happily finish. Still, I definitely enjoyed my burger and eggs - sometimes a burger is all you really need. ;)

Wow! You got a lot accomplished by 10:45am!!!

For your breakfast platter it looks like the naan bread would be a substitute for a traditional toast or biscuit option. Very interesting that they carried that theme out with breakfast.

As for your second breakfast item, I think they call that a heart attack burger around here!! I'm not a fan of eggs on burgers so I'm in no danger of ordering that!!!

You are right those signs are confusing! How are breakfast burgers related to Pancakes and how is a make your own parfait related to a waffle shop? :confused3

I had to make up for the previous wasted morning, and I really wanted to do Summit Plummet at least once more. It was worth it. :)

Yep, the naan played the role of the 'bread' in that platter, and if served warmer it would have been really great. At the other shops, there are breakfast platters with more traditional sides (the American breakfast platter at the 'Omelet' Shop includes scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, turkey bacon, chicken sausage and a biscuit, while the bounty platter at the Pancake Shop includes scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, bacon, sausage, a biscuit, and pancakes).

Those shop titles are quite confusing to me - I was familiar with the layout from my previous visits (so I knew exactly where to find the "World of Flavors" dish and the burgers), but it might be worth checking out all the shops before getting in line for one. :thumbsup2

I actually really like burgers with an egg on top, but the rest of the ingredients were just too guilt-inducing to finish. All those 'filler' calories from bread/fries can really add up. Why waste them at breakfast when I could save them for cupcakes? ;)

Oh my a burger for breakfast?! That's something I don't see every day.

I think it's funny (and smart) that you think about the worth of the calories you're eating, on vacation especially, I just eat whatever I feel like without even thinking about calories or fat content. I should probably take a lesson from you there.

I, too, like a burger with an egg on top but for dinner, not breakfast. Not sure I would venture to AoA for breakfast if not staying there but nice to see what options they have available.

Yep, a hamburger for breakfast. And it was good! I actually prefer burger meat over traditional breakfast sides (ham, bacon, pork sausage). ::yes::

Obviously, I don't force myself to eat healthy on vacation, but some of my 'health-conscious' habits from daily life are hard to break.

Agreed - to me, AoA breakfast is slightly less 'worth the trip' than lunch. However, I'd still be willing to return if it was convenient enough, since there are a few more things I want to try (such as the egg white frittata). :goodvibes

I totally understand your aversion to grease. I hate it when something is cooked with too much grease because it just ruins it. Btw, what was the sauce in your breakfast platter, DDW? I love having butter chicken with my naan, :)

Well you saved me a trip to AoA. We were thinking of having breakfast there before going to DTD for the day but the menu/food do not appeal to me. Maybe I will just go to a TS at a resort instead.

Any suggestions? Already going to Kona, Boma, Olivia's and Capt Grill and probably Kouzzina although I have not added it in yet. Where would you pick?

I was actually very surprised by your burger/egg 2nd breakfast and not much surprises me!! I read the review of the platter and saw that it wasn't your favorite and then I glanced at the next photo expecting it to be your lunch. So when I read that you got right back in line to order that burger with an egg it really made me smile! Good for you for limiting yourself but if that was in front of me right now I would eat the heck out of that burger AND the fries that go with it! You're kind of my idol for ordering two breakfasts :worship: (even though you didn't eat a ton of it). Just seeing your two breakfasts makes up for my meal of veggies that I ate one night. :rotfl2:
