Two days in a row we've gotten pranked from a "Private Number" meaning *69 will not work. Both calls at the same time of day.

Yesterday they were looking for Larry. Larry who? Larry. Larry who? Larry the Cable Guy!

They hung up when I said I was going to look at the caller ID. **click**

Today they called looking for John Wall. I told the kid there was no John Wall here. He/she said, "Are there any Walls there?" I, "Sure, all the ones that hold up the house -- are we gonna do this everyday?" **click**

I can hardly wait til tomorrow!

If they call looking for PeeWee Herman, I'll have to yell "PAGING MR. HERMAN, MR. HERMAN!"

At least you have a sense of humor about it. If you keep saying their punchlines though, maybe they'll get bored and move on.

It sounds like to me, that one of your children has a jokester in their classroom, and their using their parent's unlisted number to have some fun.
If it is kids, play along but at the end tell them you know who they are because you have a special caller id box that can trace even unlisted numbers and the fun is over. They might get scared and move on down the classroom list. . .

May I recommend ...

DS is 14 and I did say that I was going to check the ID (the first day -- that's when he/she hung up).

I'm not sure if it's a girl or a boy who hasn't made it through puberty yet, but I'm thinking boy.

I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Why are you answering the phone? :confused3 I never answer the phone if caller ID comes up private, blocked, unknown etc.

If they ask for Tom Morrow at least you will know you have something in common....

I have to. When my DS calls from Germany it comes up unknown. I don't want to take the chance of missing his call. Stinks, but oh well.....

Ever? What if it is someone you love in need of you and your caller id says one of those? :confused3 Holy crap I would hope my children know better than that! What if it is me calling form what you listed :confused3 What if it is them calling from the aforementioned :confused3

That is just scary :earseek:

I screen unknown and private numbers with my answering machine. if its someone i know then i'll pick it up.

Holy crap, are you kidding? I hope no one you care about ever calls from a different location than you are used to. :earseek:

There is an annoying call number you can dial...I don't remember what mine is, but if you look in the front of your phone book, it will tell you. As long as you hit star whatever your phone company's number is, they will handle the rest. If you do it after each call and they log 2 or more harrassing calls, they will investigate and prosecute. It may be anonymous to you, but it won't be to them!

I don't pick up either if it says unknow or private. To me the point of having it is to screen your calls. If its important they will leave a message.

Okay, I'll fess up. When I was 12 (before the days of Caller ID), my friends and I used to do this...Good times.

That's good to know.

I'll occasionally answer private, blocked, unknown calls for the reasons mentioned by others. If the name/number come up and I don't recognize it or it's out of state, usually I'll let the machine get it.

it is *something. If you have that on your phone, every person calling from a blocked line has to dial *82 to unblocked their number, or the call won't go through.

I won't pick up for unknown caller, blocked or private ever. Once I don't pick up it will go to the answering machine and if they want me they can start talking at the beep, if I know who it is then I pick up the phone. My 5 year old daughter knows to never pick up if it says blocked, private or unknown too!

*57 is Call Trace. It will capture the information from last incomming call to your line and record the information at the phone company. Our Co needs to record 3 successful traces to the same number before we release the information to your local police department. We charge $1.00 per successful trace.

For people with Caller ID there is a built in feature *77 that will reject calls that have been purposefully blocked from showing on Caller ID. The calling party will hear a recording that you do not accept blocked calls. If the calling party wants the call to go through then they have to dial *82 and that will unblock their name and number to be delivered for that one call only.

Can you tell I give out this info alot?
