POTC closed for 6 months?

Rode it yesterday and notice some curbing and walk way they put in. both go out some way from the loading area. Rode in September and don't recall seeing it then.

Time sure does fly.....it seems that it was just closed and refurbished to add Jack Sparrow to it.

When we went in 2006 it was down. I missed doing it the last few times I went. I have it on my must do list for next month.

It needs an extended refurb badly. Just a few issues include:

- Davey Jones fog, video, and sound not working
- Mermaids/Sirens not working properly
- Lots of water in the boat if you sit in the front
- Noise coming from some animatronics movements (like a grinding)
- Some characters not moving

Probably at least a few other things I can't recall. I a glad they are doing this.

If it's down all the time now, they should just rehab it now. Why wait 6 months of it being down constantly? Fix it now, so people can enjoy it.

When do you think they'll officially announce the dates? We're in the World 6/1-10. It'd be nice to try to catch like one day before it goes down. If it's not already down for other reasons.

My guess is that they only have so many refurb techs, and they are already tied up with the scheduled refurbs.

I'm glad to hear this. Its one of my favorite rides but I've avoided it on my last couple of trips due to all the problems its been experiencing. Hope they'll be able to address all of those issues and get it back in working order!

NOOO!!! I love Pirates! Just keep it open for the first week of September!

It's probably good that it's happening, but it sucks when it lines up with your trip. Oh well.

I am very glad this isn't during my trip next week, there is enough closed while i'm there! LOL!

I agree that they only have so many technicians to fix the rides and can't rehab too many at once. Disney may need to hire outside help to get this fixed. I have to say that I think Disney drags it's feet when it builds new rides or rehab's some rides. Doesn't 6 months seem like a long time for a ride to be down? If you HIRE more people to fix the problem, you could probably cut the ride closure to 3 months. I think 6 months is ridiculous to keep a ride closed, especially a very popular ride, especially when the CEO of Disney just got a $22 MILLION bonus last year.

I wonder if the estimate is a conservative one and that the attraction may open earlier than posted. What a "Happy Accident"! But if they estimated half that time and ran into issues that dragged the closure 3 more months, Holy Cow! Can you imagine the dissatisfaction? Better to let folks know ahead of time and surprise them with an earlier opening. Not too many complain that they were given an unexpected bonus.

If they have to manufacture parts from scratch or make new ride vehicles then I can see how it takes a long time to get everything done. They might not even know what they need ahead of time - and so need to take things apart and then figure out what they need made to fix major issues.
