We made a return trip in April (last minute plans) & had to find a motel close to DL because none of the Good Neighbor Motels had vacancies (hit during the busiest part of spring break)
We found a motel using TripAdvisor as our guide. This motel had very good reviews & the price couldn't be beat. We stayed at America's Best Value-Astoria Inn & Suites. This motel is located one block off of Harbor Blvd on Ball. This worked out great since we were planning on using the Mickey & Friends Parking Garage.....it was right up the street.
The pool was small (but so is the motel, so no biggie) but again we didn't try it out. The hot tub looked gross.....also a big reason we didn't try out the pool area.... yuk!
The room was the standard 2 queen room with a large vanity area outside of the bathroom.
The room left something to be desired.....the carpets were stained & dingy looking but it wasn't until our baby was crawling around on the floor (for 15 minutes) that we realized just how filthy the carpet really was!!!!!
After realizing how dirty the room was we snapped these pictures to capture it in all it's glory!
You could see daylight around the door.
Burnt outlet....makes you feel all warm & fuzzy if you needed to plug stuff in.
Built up goo in the bathroom........ I get chills just thinking about it!!!
We wrote a complaint to their corporation who passed on the complaint to the managers there. I also had complained to them in person & was told it was
Disneyland's fault for the dirty carpets....... they've actually called Disney to complain about the fireworks & how it was making their motel dirty!!!! I thought, wow......we've never had this problem before at any of the other motels!!
This is what the managers wrote back to me:
I wanted to take a moment to formally apologize for the inconvenience of your stay with us two weekends ago. As I had explained to you, we have made many attempts to deal with our persistent carpet problems. Our carpets are shampooed and washed every month. As explained, the dirt you saw on your childs socks and feet was from the Disneyland Fireworks residual which floats around in the air. This is most unfortunate and embarrassing for us when our guests convey their concerns. We have made many attempts in the past to bring this issue up with Disneyland Sales representatives, but have not succeeded in decreasing the problem. I was surprised to read from your complaint that there was no weather strips around your door this is something I will surely look into with our maintenance, as well as taking care of some of the other issues you had taken pictures of.
As for us being the owners of this property, please allow me to inform you that our position here is that of Resident Managers. This means, we are offered the job to stay here and manage the hotel for the corporate owners our incentive is not purely to collect money and show little or no concern for our guests comfort. We take these complaints very seriously, and try our very best to avoid future problems.
Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience and hope that this experience does not deter you from making future reservations with other properties around the United States. We do have a reputation to uphold, and will try our very best to repair the recent problems you encountered.
Thought I'd share this to pre-warn others to avoid this place. I did up a review on TripAdvisor with the above pics. This was the first time we'd encountered a motel in this condition when the reviews were so favorable.
I pretty much told America's Best Value corporate that I would never stay in one of their motels again. Beware.........
