My SIL is coming with us to WDW in a week and a half (1st trip for her). She lost her husband to cancer last month and is 7 months post gastric bypass with complication of esophageal scarring and constrictions. We are hoping that the trip will give her some relief from the stress of the past few months, but the problem of food on the DDP has come up.
Because of the scarring and constriction, she has had to have esophageal stretching done several times. She will have it done again just before the trip. Unfortunately, that means she will still be on a soft food only diet. She has already lost over 150 pounds and is under her target weight. She needs the nutrition of something more than yoghurt, soup, and mashed potatoes. She, of course, is also looking forward to eating out at Disney. At home, she uses a blender to pulverize regular food. I just can't see us toting one around at Disney and cheerfully asking to plug it in at Le Cellier!
The question is, can and will the chefs at Disney accommodate her? She and I are already going to split meals, since I can't eat a whole meal myself and she can only eat a cup of anything at a time.
Anyone out there know?
TIA

Not sure. but maybe you could contact their special needs department and or dietary department for more assistance. I don't have any of the numbers, but I am sure someone will come along and get you the help you need:grouphug: Wow, you SIL has been through a lot, I'll KHIMP:hug:

They do have blenders in all the kitchens; it is a standard appliance. And there have been several reports from people here that they have had their foods pureed for them with no problem.

There is contact information for special dietary needs in post 3 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. You can find that thread near the top of the thread list for this board or follow the link in my signature.

The full service restaurants would be able to blend food for her. People have had that done before with no problem. The counter service restaurants probably do not have any way to do it, but I am not sure.
I can't post a link easily right now, but you may be able to find a small food mill that will do the trick. They ate used by people to blend food for babies so you may find one in a store with baby supplies.

Also, I understand you sharing food because neither of you will be eating that much. That would not be a problem for someone who is not on the dining plan. But with the dining plan, each person in the party must be on the plan and use a credit for each meal. So, I'm pretty certain they would not allow you to share at the full service restaurants. Counter service should not be a problem since one of you can go up to order and then split at the table.

They will allow you to share a meal at table service restaurants. When I go with my DD's family, there are five of us. We use 4 table service credits at a lot of the restaurants and have never had a problem. (It will not work at buffets, though).

I, too, have had weight loss surgery. I do not know anything about having the food pureed, but I would imagine that they will accomodate you.

As far as sharing, you can do that as long as it is a menu place . . .even on the dining plan! Just not at a buffet or family style restaurant. For instance, you can't go to WCC and order the skillet and expect to share that (even though you physically could). Each of you would have to use a credit for that type of meal.

However, my dh and I shared at Akerhause last year, I just didn't partake in the cold portion of the buffet and it was no problem only using one credit.

Have fun and enjoy . . . my 88 year old grandma, my mom, my 8 y/o dd, and myself will be heading to the world in 43 days!

Thank you all for your quick and thoughtful replies. I contacted Disney Dining Reservations, went over our table service reservations, and the CM asked questions about what my SIL needed. I explained and she asked her supervisor. The supervisor said that all of the table service restaurants were used to requests like this to puree food for both children and for medical needs. It is not necessary to note the request on the reservations. I was told to just let the restaurant CM's and chef know of our request and they would handle it for us. I hope this is useful information for other DisBoard members, too.
I know this will relieve my DH's sister's worries about eating at Disney restaurants. I will also share the food mill suggestion with her for use at counter service locations.
I knew you guys would come through for us!
