Possibly renting - what are the terms usually?

I'm sure all contracts are different but I was just trying to get an idea of how much would be needed upfront. 50% or the whole thing. I have no idea and I don't want to waste anybody's time by placing a renting pts request.

Terms vary by owner. There really isn't a "norm".

Some ask for 50% when the confirmation is received and the rest 60 -120 days prior to arrival.

Others ask for something before sending you the confirm. Others want it all up front.

If you are renting way in advance, you are more likely to find an owner willing to accept payment over time. If you are renting something on short notice (less than 45 -60 days in advance), expect to pay it all up front.

Be sure to read all of the Sticky Threads at the top of the Rent/Trade Board if you haven't already. Good info there for prospective renters.

Thank you for the info. I figured it depended on the owner. Maybe we'll just book with Disney and pay as we go over the next year.

If a DVC owner has a confirmed reservation in their name, what does Member Services need in order to change it to a renter wanting to use it in place of the owner? Do they send an updated confirmation to the owner then?

We don't rent, but for our May trip, DH and I decided not to go as early as we had planned, and I decided to give our DS's family the two bedroom for themselves. I did get an updated confirmation from MS when I took our names off the reservation and listed DS's name as the guest.
