Just as a bit of a heads-up, as it might have an impact how people choose to request rooms, refurbishment work on the roof of the Oak Manor building (building 90, Royal Guest Rooms section) will begin on 19 January and continue for about 6 months.

They will only be working on one wing at a time, so the majority of the building will remain open - but of course there may be visual impact from other parts of the buildings with some scaffolding, daytime noise, etc.

Hello, everyone! This is my first post, but I read through this entire thread before we left for POR, and I just wanted to thank everyone for their posts and how much you all helped me! Especially Andre and Venomhatch. Your knowledge/advice are very helpful.

We had an absolutely wonderful time! We stayed in the Royal Rooms in Oak Manor, sent a fax a few days ahead of time (Venomhatch's template), and the room was situated very well and was quiet overall. We had a bit of a hitch with our new fridge (it didn't work), but it was corrected. The resort is absolutely gorgeous! It was so nice to come back there after a day of hoofing it all around the parks, and feel so relaxed by the trees and the beautiful river. I will definitely put this resort at the top of my list to stay at another time! However, we probably will not be returning to Disney anytime soon. Maybe when our one-year-old is around 7-8, so she can remember Disney, too.

The Magic Bands worked great for us, and it was awesome to be able to pull legacy FPs, too. I hope that privilege doesn't go away for POR guests too soon. We had another slight hiccup because I couldn't get MDE to work on my phone (Android-based). But THANKS to the advice here, I had written down all of our FP+ reservations, dinner reservations, shows/parades, etc. on index cards for every day. The family we were traveling with just took a photo of my index card each day with their phone. It worked awesome, and I'm so glad we didn't have to visit a kiosk every day just to see what our plans were.

I have one big piece of advice for everyone. We used Magical Express, which overall was a good experience. However, the one big irritation was that although our flight arrived at 5pm, they didn't get our luggage to us until 3 AM. Yes, that's right, they knocked on our door at 3 in the morning to give us our suitcases. Not such a pleasant way to start a vacation. When I talked to a Cast Member about it, she said that in the future, if our luggage hadn't arrived by the time we were going to bed, that we could just call bell services and ask them to bring our luggage in the morning. She said that they just assume that guests want their bags ASAP unless told otherwise. This makes sense, to a certain point, although the reason we didn't think of calling is because we never thought our bags would arrive that late. I had heard sometimes of lag times of 5-6 hours, but 10 hours? That's rather ridiculous. Anyway, just so all of you know that you can call Bell Services and request that they bring your luggage at around 7-8 am if it hasn't arrived by bedtime.

The food court was easy to use although it took a good bit of time, even when there weren't crowds. We ate cereal in our rooms each morning, which really helped with saving time. We were able to ride a lot in the first hour or two by getting to the parks by or just after opening. The bus system worked really well, and we only had one time when the bus just took forever, and that was because the poor driver was having a bad day (the sweet lady accidentally took us to Epcot when the bus was supposed to go to Animal Kingdom, and this was after a series of other issues). We caught all the buses at the South Depot. Several times the Magic Kingdom buses were standing-room-only, but it wasn't a big deal. On the way back from MK, we usually got off at the East Depot because the bus dropped off at that one before South, usually. One night we ate dinner at Boma at the AKL, and instead of dealing with taking a bus to a park and then to POR, we just got a taxi, which was exactly $20 (not including tip) for a van for 8 of us. It worked like a charm.

We left a tip for mousekeeping every day, and several days during our 8-night stay, we got towel animals! Our girls loved them! And the Royal Rooms are just so cool. Our room had the new runners which, along with the pretty pillows, made the beds look great. I actually liked the overall look better, as I thought that before the Royal Rooms looked a bit dark with all that wood paneling and dark bedspreads. And the beds felt so clean when you walked in after a hot day at the parks (it was 85 or so degrees the entire time we were there, while it ice stormed here in Dallas!). Also, we were warm enough with the sheet/blanket/sheet combo, which I had worried about before we got there. No need for extra blankets at all.

We rented a stroller through Baby Wheels Orlando, which worked great. We also rented a Glider Board through them - a wheeled board that attached to the stroller, which our 4-year-old could climb on and ride. It really helped her not to be too tired in the parks. She was even able to sit cross-legged on it when she was really tired. I highly recommend! The only thing is, they can't drop the stroller at bell services anymore, and you have to meet someone from the company out in the parking lot to receive and then drop off your stroller. But it was great to have the stroller at the resort, and it was easy to fold up for the buses.

Anyway, this is a very long first post! Since I got so much great help from you all, I would love to help anyone else who has any questions I didn't answer about our trip. It was a truly magical vacation, just so much fun! Oh, and this time of year, the Candlelight Processional at Epcot is not to be missed! (and you definitely need to do the Package). God bless you all!

I take it they will still be working on it in mid May? My parents just decided to switch from preferred to RGRGV because they wanted more storage. Hmmm he won't be happy with the construction. Wiill they move to partierre when they finish?

I'm joining in on the fun here. We are thinking about staying at POR NEXT January over marathon weekend. My husband is going to run the half or full. We've only stayed at the Poly and WL so this will be a bit of a departure from our norm. I'm pretty excited, though. The resort looks beautiful.

Yikes!! That certainly is a very long time. Did they say why it took so long? Our plane arrives at 5 pm on Wednesday. I don't mind if our luggage gets to our room as late as 11, as I'll be up, but I really don't want to wait until Thursday. I want to get unpacked Wed night and be ready to go.

Does anyone know if they have connecting rooms in AB section? If so does any one know which buildings?

All of the buildings have them, about 50% of rooms connect. See this post from a few days ago:

OK, I've now created updated PDF files of the new building floorplans - would anyone like to check them out while I'm still working on the pop-up image versions for the site?

No, they didn't give a reason why it took so long. I completely agree - I would have really liked to get unpacked the night before. As it was, it was a mad scramble to get up, get breakfast, and try to find things to stuff in the backpack to get to Hollywood Studios. The first day definitely felt disorganized, but it actually ended up to be a great day! So, maybe if your luggage hasn't arrived by 10:30 or so, you call Bell Services and then schedule a delivery about the earliest you'd want to wake up the next morning. That way at least you won't be woken up in the middle of the night. :thumbsup2

Your luggage usually arrives within 4 hours of when you check on at the resort. When you land doesn't factor.

I wonder what took so long the night we got there. Our plane landed before 5, and we went directly to catch Magical Express and we were dropped off at the resort in a very timely manner, by about 6. At which time we promptly checked in. It still was 9 hours after we checked in that we received our luggage, and it was a Wednesday. It was the last day of the free dining promo, so that may have had an effect. Anyway, I just wanted everyone to know that you could call Bell Services and delay the delivery of luggage until the next morning if necessary. We didn't think of this, mostly because we just kept thinking the bags were about to arrive. :)

On my flight home from a quick 4 night stay at PoR and I miss it already. I just feel so relaxed when I am there. All of the pretty green plants and the moss and the squirrels. Flying home to snow.:worried:

My nephew says he would return too but he would like a preferred room. I have to agree the walking got to be a bit much, but part of that was because my nephew only walks at one speed:superfast. :rotfl2:

I saw recently that biscuits and gravy were added to the breakfast menu. At other resorts, these are considered a snack credit. Can someone currently at POR confirm?

If they are, this will make my DH quite happy.

We check in 14 days from today!!!!! This is our first POR stay and I cannot wait! Thanks for all the great info!

We were at POR 12/1-12/11 and had just the white triple sheeting, which I actually loved despite the bare appearance. It was plenty warm for me and I'm always freezing. More warm than the old bedding because I always removed the comforter and just had a sheet and blanket. (There was another fleece blanket on the closet shelf but I never needed it.) It was sheet, fleece blanket, sheet, plus another sheet on top all white with subtle pattern. I just wanted to add that our last 2 days there we saw Housekeeping making up rooms with the new bed runners made from the old comforters. We never got one in our room or I would've taken a picture. I guess they were just adding them when a room was turned over for new guests.

I think the issue with our fridge was more of a circumstantial one. As we all know (all being readers of this particular thread!), POR has just finished their refrigerator replacements. I think we may have had a brand new fridge because I found a strip of narrow tape still stuck across the top of the door - thinking it had held the door closed. Our room was ready when we checked in at noon, and we had requested a medical needs fridge. When I opened the fridge door, I noticed it didn't seem very cold and that it was set on the max cold setting. I didn't think much of it at the time, just loaded our food into it and made a mental note to check it later. It seemed fine -- cold but not freezing -- at bedtime and again the next morning before we hit 7:00am RD at MK!!

When we returned midday, we discovered that the power was out in part of our room -- the part controlling the tv, fridge and ceiling lamp over the table. Called maint., and they had it restored within 2 hours. In the meantime, not knowing how long it would be out, I loaded my insulated shopping bag with ice and transferred the perishables into it. Moved stuff back after the power was restored. Went back out that evening and didn't check the fridge again that night.

Next am, woke up to power out in the entire room at 6:30am. Called it in and was out for an hour or less. It was our rest day, and since DD wanted a Mickey waffled for breakfast, we went to the Mill and didn't touch the fridge until midday. At lunchtime, opened the fridge to find that most of our perishables had frozen solid. Hard boiled eggs appeared to be suspended in ice cubes!! Salads had a layer of ice around them. DD's chicken tenders were chick-sickles. My Greek yogurt was now frozen yogurt. You get the idea....

We tried to thaw as much food as we could, but had to toss most of it as the taste/consistency was ruined. :(

I think it was just a quirky set of circumstances, though. My guess it that the temp was set on the coldest setting upon install, and that it should have been adjusted after the first few hours. I might have realized that sooner, but the power outages over 2 days would have also affected the internal temperature stabilizing.

You'd probably be fine using the fridge, but I'd keep an eye on the temps. Also, Garden Grocer will add a foam cooler to your order at a nominal cost. The room fridge isn't very large, so you might want that depending on the size of your order.

Hope this helps -- I'm sure you will have a fantastic trip!!

Thank you! I will try to remember to throw my (tiny) fridge thermometer in my suitcase! And look into the cooler as well...
