From 28, the West Depot would most likely be quickest (a bit depending on where in 28 you are though). From the northwest corner of building 28, going past the nearby quiet pool (or maybe via building 25?) to the West Depot is about 250 yards. From the same point, via the parking lot sidewalk, to the South Depot is about 470 yards (there isn't a very convenient route directly southwards from 28 towards the 'teen' buildings without cutting across the grass/woods).

But have an explore (maybe with a Google satellite image open in your phone?) and see what other ideas you come up with.

Andre

Haha!!! I love, love, love the amount of detailed information you have gathered about POR!!! I read this thread often and truly appreciate the help you give others and myself. I normally don't post but I had to give you credit for this one!!! Thanks to you and Venom for all you do!!! Have a magical day!!!

25 days til my first stay at POR...yay!!!

Is your TA booking you directly with Disney, or via a package or travel company? Sometimes different companies have different options and availabilities that they can sell. Also, do you have any discount on the booking (e.g. dining plan offers, etc) as it may not have been possible to book the new room type without losing the discount.

Otherwise, if your TA does book directly with Disney and there is no price difference, let them know that if they really can't do it you would like to make the booking directly with Disney yourself and cancel the booking via the TA.

Andre

My husband is military, so it was a room only reservation. It is not apart of any package deal and when I first booked and paid for it, she called Disney direct. No worries. Every thing happens for a reason, Ill just ask and pay for an upgrade when I get there if one is available. 19 days!! :D

Thanks so much!

Can anyone weigh in...I need pros and cons of a standard room vs. a garden view room. Is the extra $9 a night worth it? We don't really spend very much time in our room at all. This will be our first time at POR, so I'm not at all familiar with the resort property.

I don't think so. You will end up with a view that partially or totally faces the parking lot, but the landscaping is still nice and you still get to enjoy the beautiful grounds when you walk around the resort. I almost never sat and looked out the window. Look at the maps at portorleans website and/or google maps and you will see the layout of parking.

Here now and the resort is as lovely as I remember. But I am hoping for a little help: we are in building 28 , which seems to be smack in the middle of the south and west depots. Is one truly closer than the other? And is walking along the parking lots the best way to get to them?
We were in bldg 28 in Oct. Beyond Andre's advice which is right on as always... we hit the South Depot on the way out, either via the walk along the river to the main bldg if we had to stop there, or along the parking lot as not to get lost. West was more convenient at night when we came back from the parks - MUCH closer walk. But 28 was in such a weird spot. No straight routes really. I enjoyed chuckling at myself a couple of times getting lost on my attempts to find the best way to this or that. Staying along the parking lots may not have been the shortest route, but it made sense! ;)

Southern Ontario is getting dumped on this weekend.....it is cold and snowy and blowy.

Can it please be May now? I wanna be at Disney!

Heading back to POR Feb 23 thru Mar 1...just for fun. Usually come down for a race but not this time. Anyway...I have breakfast reservations at Kona Cafe and need some suggestions on bet way to travel to Poly and approximate time to allow. TIA

Well, just using Disney transportation, I would say bus to MK and monorail to Poly. I'd allow an hour.

But if it was me, I'd probably consider a cab.

Oh my gosh, finally finished reading the entire thread! We head to POR Feb 20 for the Princess Half Marathon. Not sure even what my signature says these days...

Anyway, for the runDisney events, anyone know which bus stop they pick up at for the races and expo? I'd heard that the bus picks up only at the main stop but I wasn't sure. I'd hate to be waiting at the East stop and never actually get picked up for the run I'm working so hard for.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I will probably take your advice and take a cab.

We will be at POR tomorrow . It's finally here! Thanks for the help and tips given here I'm sure it will make our stay better. Leaving in a bit for the drive to the airport hotel!!

Enjoyed our last stay so much last year we decided to return again in Jan/Feb!

We stayed in a RGR last year (for the little guy) but we want to try the Alligator Bayou this time so I just booked a standard.

So, will that pretty much ensure we'll be there or should I still make a request?

Just 11 days until I'll be checking in. Can't wait to be back. From just a quick look, It looks like all values and Moderates are booked solid for the week after Christmas.

We have several months to go but we got our welcome MB packet last night with the flash drive. Can't wait until the kids go to bed to open it! Can't wait to go home to POR!

There are standard rooms in the Mansions, so the only way to guarantee AB is to book preferred, since preferred rooms are only in AB. If you want to stick with standard, you would need to make a request.
