Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread - Royally Refurbished for 2011

No, the first pictures leaked of the new POFQ rooms just a few days before building 7 re-opened. A guest saw an open door in the work area and sneaked in and grabbed a few photos of a finished room that was just awaiting the soft furnishings (bedspread, etc). That was 12 November, a week before the first rooms were re-opened. AFAIK, Disney have still not released any official photos of the new POFQ rooms.

The pictures of the rooms on the Disney site (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/port-orleans-resort-french-quarter/) appear to be of the refurbished rooms.

Andre, what I was referring to was the Construction Board that was posted on the old FQ thread that showed the carpet, wall boarder and an artist's rendering of what the room was supposed to look like (I'm not sure who posted it, but it sure was nice to have an idea). I was hoping that the same type of board was available to POR.

Boatwright's was great for breakfast, but they no longer serve it (since 2009, I believe).

For dinner, for a moderate resort, and what you get, it is pretty pricey. I would do it in a pinch, if needed, but overall, too expensive for the food you get.

Thanks for the response. We would have the DDP so the price isn't a big deal. It's really the convenience that makes it appealing. Is it worth a TS credit?

The suspense is killing me

I just changed our room reservation from a standard room at POR to the Royal Room! Can't wait to surprise DS with it for his b'day next year! :yay:

I had three overdone tiny filet mignon medallions on top of an "adult" version of macaroni and cheese; no veggies, no salad, no soup, nothing.

An hour later, I was in the Food Court, looking for something else to eat.

No, quite frankly, I would go over to SSR at the Turf Club or Olivia's at OKW and you will get a far better TS meal for the credit.

When you take the water taxi to Marketplace, you can switch over to the SSR taxi. For OKW, it is a bit longer, you have to transfer from Marketplace to Pleasure Island and then over to OKW, but Olivia's is also fabulous.

I don't want to go hungry! I'll look into the other restaurants you suggested. Thank you!

Or more accurately, if I know how to work photo bucket.

You might want to check out this thread for reviews of Boatwrights. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1923577
The thread was started back in '08 but there are some recent reviews near the end of it with many positive reviews. It convinced me to give it a try on my upcoming trip. Hopefully, I have the link added right.....it is my first time submitting one. Good luck with your decision.

Hi,
Looking to stay here for the Princess half marathon and wondering if you can walk to any of the parks from the resort? Looks lovely.:goodvibes

Of course, you could always walk to a park if you wanted to. However, if you mean walk to a park like walking from CR to MK or BWI, YC/BC, Swan/Dolphin to EC or DHS, there is no path from POR or POFQ to any of the parks and most bus rides are about 15-20 mins or so.

Andre -

I have to laugh; over on that OTHER website, where I check out the building permits, I checked out the discussion to see if they had anyone report on the refurb at POR or some pics. Seems his thread is much more general in nature; a lot more of "speculating" than any real news.

Anyway, they bantered back and forth about the building permit for Acadian House and the Royals rooms, etc. No one could even remember where they had read the information about the Royal rooms. Finally someone noted the two buildings in the mansions.

Then someone commented that the rooms must be available because they had a building permit for Parterre Place in February (remember when I posted that).

Finally, that person was corrected that work had NEVER begun in Parterre Place, but it has begun in Acadian House.

A whole lot of space with so much mis-information. Oh, and they never miss a chance to "speculate" each time something is done at DTD; that the Adventurer's Club is coming back....:lmao:

Thank you! I just like that it's very convenient for dinner since we're staying at POR. I have a while to make my decision. I'm not going until fall of next year :) Never too early to ask!

By hubby & I are staying at POR 10/16 - 10/23; we visit every other year. The last time we visited was in 2009, we had our anniversary dinner at Boatwrights. We both were very disappointed in the lack of choices; the prices seemed to be a little bit high for what we got. Okay I know everything at Disney is priced a little high but this food was not worth what we paid for it. Maybe we'll give it another try this time around. On the other hand, the food court is great!

I also found it quite high for a moderate resort.

I got the filet mignon medallions, medium.

I got well done, sitting on a pile of "adult" style mac n' cheese.

No salad, no soup, no veggies, nothing. Everything else was a la carte. I would expect that at a high end restaurant at the deluxes, but not there.

The next night, I took the water taxi over to DTD and then over to SSR and went to the Turf Club.

I was blown away by that meal. It was fantastic. Sitting out on the patio in the evening, watching the world go by; what a difference.

I have also been to Olivia's at OKW; same thing; awesome meal; lovely view on the deck.

Check either one of them out; the water taxi ride is a bit farther to OKW, but wonderful on a lazy evening.

Sadly, I think that last one comes under the porcine aviation department.

But yes, there's a lot of misinformation out there on the internet. I try to keep to what I know to be facts, or at least info from very reliable sources, or else what people report as having seen.

But even then I read some posts where people say they've seen something with their own eyes that I know cannot be true.
