I am thinking about booking a royal room for our trip in Nov (during FD blackout)...and hoping for a room discount to be issued. Just want to make sure....IF a discount was issued, Royal rooms wouldn't be excluded, would they? Also, we'd be booking 2 (1 for us, 1 for inlaws)....we'd love to be adjoining. Any particular room views that may stand a better chance of being adjoined?

I'm here right now and it looks like the quiet pool between Magnolia Terrace and Arcadian House is closed for refurbishment. The girl who checked me in at the front desk was not aware of this, as she circled it on the map as our closest quiet pool.

Andre--any idea how long the refurbishment will be?

Oh no! We leave in a week, we have waterview and I've requested the Mansions! Maybe it's just for a quick cleaning! pixiedust:

We are considering renting an ECV for my Dad on our up coming trip. I read recently that someone that stayed at POR with an ECV had a terrible time getting a bus. They had to wait for 3 to 4 busses EACH TIME they were going to the parks because of the number of ECV's to board, has anyone else had this experience or was this a fluke? They said they had no such troubles at any other resorts. I know busses can be hit or miss at any resort, but this was the first time I've heard of this complaint.

Also, if we rent an ECV for him, do you think we would have a good chance at getting a ground floor room? We booked preferred because of his mobility issues and from what I understand preferred is in AB and there are no elevators there. TIA! :goodvibes

If you are really worried about it, you may want to book POFQ. It is a smaller resort, easier to get around and it is the first bus stop for both Port Orleans resorts. Availability of ECV spaces on a bus is a potential issue at every resort, but staying at POFQ would at least put you first in line (except on the bus to Downtown Disney). Good luck!!!

You hear different stories, some people have no problems at all but, obviously, time of year makes a big difference. You siggy says you are going around 2nd sept is that right? I would imagine crowds being lower you would have less chance of that happening.

We won't know until its released I'm afraid, it depends on which resorts they are trying to fill, however I received a PIN for room discount and Royal Rooms were NOT excluded so fingers crossed for you :)

You got blessed with the pin fairy, I have been on the hunt for the tag fairy someone on here. Hope they don't sneak up on me, or maybe I do hope that.

Night everyone!

I certainly did :goodvibes I could choose from room discount or free QS dining - it worked out better for me to take FD and upgrade to reg dining .... $100 per person to eat for a week is a good deal in my books.

Sorry, no idea. I didn't think anything was scheduled (and it does seem unlikely for mid-July). Maybe it's just urgent cleaning...? If people are working there, could you ask them what's going on?

Andre

Can't help you with the bus stuff, but did you put on your ressie that you have a guest with mobility issues in your group? That should help.
We've always had ground floor when my 70+ year old mom was along with us, and I figured it was because they saw her age. We never requested it.
But I do know they try to help with medical based requests!!!
No I didn't! Thanks for the tip, I will add that to their ressie!

Please help:

we've paid for preferred room. hoping that the fact that they'd hopefuly put us in a room that there is less walking to pools/bus stop/food court & main building is worth the money.

Now what/where do we request for a room location w/a double stroller? kind of want to be on the main floor, was it 18 in alligator bayou? Correct me if I'm wrong. Granted we're a family of 5 so i think that's the only place they'd put us.

With that said I'm a bit worried about the constant lobby/traffic in the halls. Appreciate the suggestions/feedback ;)

So where is the ideal room/area to request. And when & with who do we put that request in?

Looking at the map... river view would seem to get me closer to Ol Man Swimming Pool than reserving a preferred room. Do you agree? Never been to POR... I just don't want a long walk from the pool if it's cold outside in January. Being close to the main building would be a plus. I'd book river view and special request Alligator Bayou. Thanks!

Any opinions on my earlier post (below) about how warm the water is? I know it's heated but some pools seem to lose heat more than others.Thank you.
Planning a trip last week of January 2013. I know the pools are heated but does Ol Man Swimming Pool hold the heat well. I know DS and I will be in and out of the pool on the slide. Will we freeze? Thanks!

you can call and add it to your reservation now. I'd request "first floor, closest to main bldg." All of preferred should be pretty good though.
All walkways are exterior, so you shouldn't be too bothered by it.

I would try for building 14 thats the closest to the main building and buses, just ask for a 1st floor room. But If you want to be close to the laundry and pool, now your talking about building 18.

Interesting, when you go out for 2013 bookings now they still say double beds on the regular rooms, anyone know why? I thought with the refurb done they would say queen?:confused3

The official info on the resort is not updated. They need to fix that. :rolleyes2

Geez I kinda got sticker shock  Right now April 1-10 seems to be the best time to go price-wise but I dont know if we will be eligible for the free dining. Does anyone know my chances of getting it for this date?

I got a couple of other dates that might work out so I can change my dates if I have to.

I don't know them to do that in the season during April. They may still do it the month of March because it is still a second tear pricing, not peak but still more than value. Id say March is a good chance but the peak season before it aka Feb will get it. That time of the year always does.
