Yay for katdemar & pmaurer74!!!

pmaurer74 - omg GF!!! So pleased for you! What about your parents?

pmaurer74 - I'm wondering if you are the only one here that's gotten the GF upgrade. I’m trying to decide if I want to be a little greedy and ask for a switch. Anyone else out there ask and get GF?

Nope don't need it. It seems too preppy for us, no offense to anyone picking it. I just know if we got it we would initially be wowed, but then we would be like, wish we were at the poly instead. Its a deluxe so I feel proud where I am. It just doesn't seem to geared for kids. They seem more like the honeymooners, and older folk there. Also you got a free upgrade to a deluxe, why keep playing with it making it unstable and then next thing you know they decide you know what back to POR. It is good to not be too greedy.

Yes they upgraded my parents too!

Sweet I am glad you all are able to be in the same spot, I am sure they are thrilled also. I like that you changed your ticker also. Nice choice!

I agree with Venom, GF was available for me to choose it just isnt our favorite resort. We have a very modern home and I guess thats why we love BLT/CR, but GF is just way too "frilly" for us. We can appreciate it though for what it is, but just not our cup o tea. Picking the Beach Club was a stretch for us, not really our taste either, but just wanted to try something on the boardwalk as well as use Storm-along Bay.

Either way you slice it, what a wonderful thing Disney has done for all of us! Have a blast everyone!

I have seen two other posters say that requested and got GF, names escape me, will try and find the posts :)

Agreed! I wouldn't want to try to do the grass seems greener over at the GF skit. They offered us the GF and WL. Maybe one day we will try the WL, but I am very thankful that they did this upgrade. They didn't have to.

Yeah but they used that as their choice, not got one deluxe then changed to another deluxe. I think that it might be a little unstable as to wanting to keep switching. Something is bound to get messed up or lost in translation.

We are heading down in March, the last week. Not getting a Royal room due to a group of 5 so we are in AB with queen beds. Do we know what buildings are supposed to be completed by the end of March? I know construction may fall behind, just curious of the possible locations.

Here is more info on the "queen-bed blunder". I think this was a BIG mistake on Disney's part. I know I booked this resort for the queen beds that I was told I was guaranteed because "that is clearly what you are booking".:confused3

I asked for GF for Feb 18th-25th and it was booked. Could have had anyother one with a starnadrd view but kept our Poly MK view.

That seems like a mess. With my husband being 6' 8" and my son 6' 4" we need the queens. Disney has always been great about getting us a room/building location we want so I won't be too worried yet. I was a travel agent for 14 years and learned if it's in writing, it almost always has to be honored. If they were not going to be ready, like the Royal Rooms, I think they have to make good on what is booked. We didn't book for the hotel, we book for a room sleeping 5 with queen beds. I'm sure it will work out.

Do we know what buildings are done???:goodvibes

Well it was a 10 dollar difference for a queen lol.

We don't check in until mid February, so I am hoping for the best. There have been reports on here that people with gardenview/queen beds aren't getting them because there are only so many. One person was moved mid-stay, though.

I know of at least 2 other people that got GF. I told the CM I felt I was being greedy and she said no and I was like it does not hurt to ask! We love GF and have eaten there. DHs parent's stayed there last year. It may not be geared towards kids as much but we figured we may never get to stay there again!

I know of one other person that called to switch resorts and decided to stick with Poly in the end.

GF was booked for a few days at the end of Feb.

Hello Disney experts, this is my first post :)

We just booked a Royal Room at Port Orleans Riverside for April. I was wondering if anyone has stayed in the mansion buildings at Riverside, as I am unsure of which "view" to go with (Standard, Garden or River view). I have reserved the River View for now, but wondering if anyone can give input as to if it's worth it or if we would be better off with a Garden view?

Last resort we stayed at was POFQ we had a standard view (parking lot) and that was fine. Only reason I went with River View at POR was I am concerned with reviews saying the resort is huge and want to minimize the walk from our room to the dining area. Hoping someone can let me know their opinion on the best room category to choose.

Some background on our family is there will be me, my DH, our 6yo dd who has mild autism and hypotonia (her muscles are weak so she tires easily) and our almost 3yo ds. We are traveling by car and will use the car as transportation instead of resort buses, and I have a double stroller to use when needed for longer walks / park use.

Thanks for any assistance!!

Firstly, welcome scmomof2!

You have certainly come to the right place :) Personally I have not stayed at POR ... yet (planning for this december) ... but have done TONS of research mainly using the website listed in the first post of this thread, which is run by the awesome Andre. Its a great place to do your own research and then any other questions you may have, post them here, they will be answered no matter how obscure.

Have fun planning!

I am so happy you are all getting your calls! Must be so exciting! We are so excited about our trip too! :cool1:

Welcome!!! :) I personally loved the river view rooms. Whether it is just relaxing outside, watching the boats going by. It is definitely worth it.

About the children and walks. The Royal Rooms or RGR rooms, are all in the mansions. The they are in the two buildings to the southeast of the hotel property. As shown in the map from Andre's Site www.PortOrleans.org. But here is a screen shot of google earth where the parking lots are behind the building. They will be in the Oak Building and I believe the Parterre Building wont be finished before then. I also highlighted a path from the oak building to the main building, also there is a quiet pool between the oak and parterre buildings so if everyone wants to soak that is a nice spot without having to go too far.
