Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter Room Request Fax Thread

Thank, Thank you all very much! I am saddened today for I had to help make arrangements for my friend. Long story short before anyone judges reading this. Not saying anyone does. But We were heading towards Planet Hollywood to eat when someone not familiar with the area pulled out suddenly and struck my friends bike going over him almost. He didn't survive the accident. I don't want to describe further about the hows and what ifs. But we were not fooling around on the bikes or acting stupid when this happens.

I am not asking for support or pity. Just explaining where I have been away on and off. But will try to be on as soon as possible.

:grouphug: sorry I completely missed this post. My heartfelt condolences. Driving around Florid is a scary thing for me. So many crazy drivers and throw in all the tourists and it's a disaster.
So sorry for your loss.

Well, call ME crazy, but even the parking lot views aren't awful.

Not necessarily true. We have always booked standard for the very reasons you mentioned... we are in the parks from day to night, and have never been fussed about view. But, last time we were in POR, we did indeed overlook a parking lot from the far end of Magnolia Bend, and it was pretty abysmal. Not a big deal, the walk to the main building was very pretty, though a bit of a trek.

BUT, now that I have seen some of the better views, I've changed my mind! I equate it to those who have stayed value and move to moderate then can't imagine going back! I will call and ask to be upgraded... just have to decide whether to ask for Royal Room garden view, or preferred pool view and add my preferred locations in the faxed request, then wait and see what happens. If I remember correctly, the difference should only be about $30-40 a night, which I'd happily pay to step out into a world that I can't get at home.

We can't wait to get back to POR, but I'll be even more excited to step out to a beautiful view every morning!

Any thoughts on what number to call? Do I just dial Resort room-only bookings at (407) 939-7429? Thanks for the help!

You have booked a Standard View room, and so by rights you really should probably be expecting to get a room which looks out towards a parking lot.... You need to accept that is what you have actually paid for. Requests might help of course, but you should always go into it expecting to receive what you have paid for, and then anything extra is a lovely bonus.

Thanks Andre, for responding - this is exactly what I meant by professional help - either you or VenomHatch chiming in! Yes, a parking lot view is exactly what we expected, like last time, and I was okay with that until I saw some of the great views we COULD have! (that room-view website has been the bain of my existence - ignorance really was bliss!). However, I really feel like one of those gorgeous views would really add to the escapism!

Just to be clear, I am not expecting a free upgrade - I want to arrange it in advance of our arrival, and pay accordingly. And, I'm certainly not counting on pixie dust. It's our seventh trip, we have always left room selection up to the front desk gods (!!), and we have not once been upgraded despite travelling at slow times of year. Slightly disappointing but no big deal - our previous views have always been lovely (not so much with the parking lot view, but it was what it was and actually came in handy as our son suddenly experienced trouble breathing on Day 2 of our vacay, and the ambulance could pull right up - so it all worked out nicely!).

I will take your advice and try calling to upgrade our room. Now the question is, preferred pool view or royal room garden? Drats - as with everything these days, there are just TOO many choices. Fingers crossed that these room categories are still available, and my fax gets us in the general vicinity I had hoped for! We've never walked around the AB area (only ever stayed in the mansions) so I may gently request that area and hope for the best. I assume I just call the Resort Room-Only Bookings number at (407) 939-7429?

Thanks... only one month and two days left to go! ;)

Yeah I welcome him to come in and help whenever he can. I have a lot I stay on top of lately. Trying to move up from where I am in position at work.

I hear you... me too! Another reason why I'm really looking forward to this escape to POR! Need a break from all the cloak and dagger politics!

Hope all goes according to plan, VenomHatch!:thumbsup2

There is no "Preferred Pool View" category, you can either book Preferred Location (any garden or standard view room in buildings 14, 15, 18 or 27) or Pool View (any pool view rooms around AB, Acadian House or Magnolia Terrace - including the 6 pool view rooms in building 18, which you could request but are not guaranteed of course).

As I said before, I think the best general choice, where every room you might be given is guaranteed a nice view and a relatively short walk, would be the regular River View category (not Royal). In the Royals, Pool View Royal Room would also give a pretty good guarantee.

I have just sent a fax with a couple of requests for our arrival on 18th. Mostly I was asking if we could have a room on the 3rd floor as DD and I are terrible sleepers so fingers crossed we get a little pixie dust! I also asked for an outside corner room, it would be nice but really not terribly important. In my fax I also mentioned that we have 2 packages that will be arriving and if they arrive before we do we would be grateful if they were held for us. I just hope my fax arrived, I have never faxed anything before so I hope I did everything correctly!! One week to go, wooohoooo!!! :D

Yes, Politics. I know about that. Thank you.

Here is to wishing you all the magic possible!

Unless I'm staying deluxe I don't care about the view. I am not going to leave my shades open enough to look out to the walkway, because if I can see out they can see in. With a balcony I'd pay for a view. With mod or value not really unless there was another reason like location.

I payed for a garden view recently at POR but that was because I was trying for a location in the building and all the standard views were on the back futher away from where I wanted to be.

Even staying at the Deluxes I keep my window curtains closed all day unless we are in there. Unless there is no way someone can look in, aka Themepark View or Lagoon View. I am just happy though in a standard room at the Poly if we stay with Deluxes.

This is the exact reason I upgraded to Garden View, more for location than view. Although, I know in Riverside there are a lot of GV that can be "out of the way" as well.
Sending my additional request in tonight! Hopefully we get lucky and get pixie dusted. :thumbsup2 In 4 days I'll let you all know if it was worth the upgrade and how we make out with our request for a room close to that main path! :goodvibes

Getting ready to send our fax in for our arrival on Saturday. Thank you so much for your guidance!

We arrive at POFQ on Dec 4th. We do plan on faxing a wonderful letter with our requests....but I'm curious....when should I ??

Thanks all....I know that they are just requests....and no garentee....just want to at least five it my best shot. :thumbsup2

I would do between 7-10 days out if you can. That way no one has left for Holiday that would handle it.

Oh, sorry... got my categories crossed! Thanks, Andre. I will call and make the change. Appreciate the help.

Just faxed my request to POR. We have a king bed room booked and I just requested a River view in building 85, 38, 27, or 80. Keeping my fingers crossed but will be happy regardless! I will let you all know how it goes! Thank you Venom for the template and all of your help!!
