We're planning our first trip and are looking at these two resorts... what do I need to know about the two?

Our first trip was in Sept. 08. We had a great time.
Must see would be Mickey's Philharmonic
Dining for us was the character breakfast at the Polynesian with Lilo and Stitch. Great food and fun with characters.
Must do would be turtle talk with Crush, your son will love it. We adults had a good time too.
Hope you have a great first time and oh go by the information center to get your "first time" visit pin. We are going back in Aug. 47 days and counting.

We stayed at POFQ for our trip in '06 and at POR in '08.

POFQ has a layout that is very compact. You don't have nearly the amount of walking from the farthest building to the bus stop or food court here. The bus system is shared, but POFQ gets the better end of the pickup drop off schedule, first on going to the parks (read: seats available) and first off coming back.

POR has more spacious grounds and a larger food court with more offerings. If you are a family of five, this is only place you can put the youngest on a trundle and not have to pony up for an extra room.

I've stayed at both POFQ and POR. To me, both are great resorts. I stayed at FQ many years ago and it is smaller than POR. The pool is good at both resorts but for kids, I'd prefer FQ for the slide. POR has a restaurant and I like the food court better there also. The entertainment is similar at both but my vote goes to POR for Yehaa Bob. He is a piano player that is quite entertaining for adults and kids. Love the boat ride to DD. You really can't go wrong with either resort!

We go in Sept and were wondering the same. We choose POR because of the great input on the boards..
I am just praying for good weather and for Spirit Airlines to be off strike by then

We prefer POR because it has several quiet pools as well as the main pool whereas POFQ only has the one. The bike and watercraft rentals are at POR and the foodcourt is much better (IMO) at POR.

See I prefer to get a seat on the bus and risk maybe not even having to stop at POR because the bus is full than stay at POR and have to stand all the time. The food court is not that important to me, nor are the pools. I don't really care for Boatwright's, it's okay but nothing to write home about. Besides the pools, food courts, restaurant, and carriage ride is something you can use while staying at POFQ since they are sister resorts. Oh, and the biggest plus is that POFQ has its own resort at MK in the evening. I also like the secluded hot tub at POFQ.

I think it all depends on how many people are going. For example, we went with DH's family in 2002, and stayed is Riverside. It has more buildings and is more spread out. There were 6 of us, and we were able to get 2 adjoining rooms. With the size of our group, we never had any problems finding good food for everyone in the food court and a place to seat everyone. However, DH and I went in December 2009 and stayed at FQ and found it to be much more quiet and romantic. And they have beignets which makes everything better. Whichever one you pick, you won't be disappointed. Good luck!

I love both and was really disapointed the only mod resort I could get for my dates was CBR. Still trying for POR. I look every day. LOL

If you want a good Food Court--POR.
We walked over there several times to eat because the food is
Soooo much better--with most things freshly made.
Loved the Create your own Pasta station.
Also enjoyed their Fried Fish basket.
I think the decor is also much more pleasent at POR Food Court--
you can see the gears of the water wheel.
POR also seem more quite because of it being more spread out--
you didn't see as many people--elbow room.

We just returned two weeks ago from POR. I would say hands down the FQ would be better. Everyone talks about how great the food court is at POR; however, it is crazy busy. One night it took a full 45 minutes to get our food after waiting in line at three different stations. Yes, the create your own pasta is good...but not at the expense of everyone else's meal being cold. Plus, we ended up at the furthest bldg. from everything. Also, there are 4 bus stops w/in the resort. By the time the bus got to ours we had to stand every time. It was tricky with 3 kids, especially the two yr. old. The trundle wasn't comfy at all. Our kids argued over who would have to sleep in it each night. The grounds are beautiful, I can't deny the overall serene feel of the resort (with the exception of the bustling food court). We didn't have to eat much at the food court. We only planned on a couple meals as we were on the dining plan; however, after the first two experiences, we headed over to FQ and were blown away with how different it was. The CM"s were just over the top nice and attentive. The beignets were awesome. The pool was more fun, with the dragon theme. We had initially booked FQ, but had to change because we really did need the trundle. Since it was a bust, I wish I had tried to just pay for a roll-away at FQ and stuck with my initial plan. I did make a room request for a better location, but of course, there is no guarantee. I tried to get a bldg. 14-18 or 27. Anything that will have you at the South Depot is better if you decide on POR. We did rent the surrey bike once, which was very nice. Of course, you can use amenities there even if you stay at FQ. The boat ride between the two is relaxing.

Definitely POFQ!
Such a beautiful, small resort, great pool, beautiful grounds.

Could always go over to POR as they are sister resorts, try out their pool, their food court, rent a watercraft, even go cane pole fishing!

We stayed at POFQ a few times now and always love it, one of our favorite resorts. Couple times we've headed over to check out POR - and just think OMG, it is SO huge, no way, not for us! Last trip checked out the pool, kids went fishing, walked the grounds a bit. But nope, just prefer POFQ. We think it's prettier there, love the pool area, the theme of it, kids love the slide there. It has everythign you need there, just nice and compact!
