Behind the Seeds
Epcot


Take a one-hour walking tour of the LAND greenhouses and labs. Tour greenhouses to discover over 60 crops from around the world, and see some of the latest techniques used to grow and improve plants. Watch as beneficial insects used at The Land battle pests that can destroy our food supply. Venture through the fish farm to see thousands of fish and alligators, too! Bring your cameras, and have fun!


Tours are led by a member of the Epcot Science Team. Flash photography and videotaping are allowed. Children are welcome, but must be supervised; strollers are provided for small children. Wheelchair accessible (guests in electrical wheelchairs need to transfer to push type). Safety and sanitation rules are strictly enforced in the greenhouses and labs. Covered, non-alcoholic drinks are allowed during the tour.


$12/per adult and $10/per child (3-9). Reservations can be made up to one year in advance.

Same day tour sign-up downstairs at The Land pavilion, near the entrance to Soarin'.

My friend and I (I am 25 years old) took this tour on July 10, 2007. Our tour guide was from China (And am sorry to say that i cannot spell his name!) and he was wonderful! We learned about all kinds of bugs and how Disney breeds the good bugs to keep out the bad bugs (much safer than pesticides). The 2 kids in the group received lady bugs to release later. We then proceded to the greenhouse. We saw the hanging plants and our guide explained how they can grow in the air with no soil. We saw the Mickey pumpkins and a tomato plant that is in the Guiness World Record book! We saw many more plants growing in sand and any questions we had, our guide was able to answer. He then gave us cucumbers to eat, we even got seconds! Cucumbers right from the greenhouse, they were delicious!! We then moved onto the fish section and the 2 kids were able to actually feed the fish! (i would have liked to do that too!) There were also some aligators, but our guide said they just ate, so they were not being very "active" (hehe). The last part of the tour we were able to touch and smell some plants. He had samples on a table and he told us all about them! The 2 kids then released their lady bugs. After that the tour was over and we had to start making our way back to the main building (i didn't want it to end!). The whole walk back, my friend and i talked to the guide and he was just sooo cool. I am soooo glad we went on this tour. Even if the tour had cost double what we paid, it would have been worth it!! I enjoyed the tour and our guide so much that when it was over, I asked him if i could get a picture with him! It was a day i will not forget! I recommend it highly!

Has anyone done the "Behind the Seeds" tour? I was thinking about doing the tour in November.

That one seems 'boring' to me - but Im not a gardener.....

My friend Rachael and I order salads minus lettuce all the time! Especially at Chilis. I don't care for Iceberg lettuce too much anyway. I especially hate it if it is warm. And at Chilis they put so much other stuff on the salad I never miss it! Now, if it is Romaine or Bib, Butter, Spinach, etc. then it's no biggie. I think it boils down to the fact I just have issues with iceberg.

I felt so bad, We took him to the local hospital where x-rays confirimed a broken hand in 3 places. He's out of work and in a cast for the next 6 to 8 weeks. Still the FDNY will pay him his salary since it happened on duty, but i felt so bad. HE told me it was not my fault and an accident, i kept telling him how sorry i was. After they gave him some mophine for the pain, he told me he was taking the entire crew out for lobster and beers his treat.


All is well here, i am off until friday (the non-dirty danicing banana ) Al right gang good night!!!!!!

Ohhh you will never believe what happened to me at the Drs. yesterday! i was soo embaressed haha! Sal thought it was hilarious when i told him in the waiting room. I took a shower in the AM with my Victorias Secret Love SPell gel and I have the body creme and the sparkle lotion! Well I meant to put the sparkle lotion on my arms like always, but for some reason I was distracted and put the sparkly lotion on all over. I didn't realize b/c I had jeans on. Well As i'm getting undressed in the room I notice my thighs are like a disco ball, there is sooo much sparkle lotion on them!!!!! I didn't want him thinking that I did that for the appt!!! I tried to get it off, but if anyone has experience with this stuff, it's like SPRAY PAINT! I felt like such a weirdo and i'm sure i was the talk of the day hahahahaha!!

Michelle - I just have to tell you..your story reminded me of one of my college friends........the new "glitter" body puff thing had just become the thing...she had her annual "check up" and forgot so she powdered & glittered herself up...in "all" the important places!!! Her ob/gyne commented to her...."you didn't have to get all fancy for me!" She almost died!!!!
