POP refurbed rooms with Flat Screens! Update Page 13 **

I wondered this too. If I do on-line check in, how do I get the request that I have had on there since the initial reservation? If we don't get it, is there someone to talk to or what?
Thanks!

You need to call disney 1-407-934-7639 have then note your reservation with your request. This is the best way to do it.

Now I can't wait for 2012!!! I'm glad they are FINALLY using the unfinished side of POP!
:cheer2:

can't wait to see it!

Me also. I know where we will be staying in 2012.
We are staying at AKL this year but I'm always on the pop thread. Think I'm going to miss it. My favorite 2 resorts are WL and POP. Hoping aKL won't dissapoint.

Since we are booked in a preferred room...(actually, 2 rooms), the 70's (or part of it) is preferred, correct?

Also, I assume that when I check in online , there is a place where I can request our rooms an certain location? It's our first time staying at Pop and the kids are thrilled.:banana:

No you cannot make any room location requests online. As others have said, you need to call and have it noted on your reservation, keeping in mind that this is never guaranteed.

If you do online check in and if you have previously called and your request is noted on your reservation, when you arrive there will be a separate line for those who have used the online check in. If you would like a different location, then you'll need to get into the regular check in line to check for availability in that location.

For those very excited about the 2012 Animation Suites - please keep in mind that large construction projects are frequently delayed so before the disappointment gets a chance to form.. just tell yourself it's not opening til summer 2013..

Then when it opens in January of 2013 we can all be pleasantly surprised it opened earlier than we expected rather than being upset it opened later than Disney said.

Just want to give my experience from Nov 2009. When DH booked our vacation (I think it was 6 or more months ahead of time) he gave our "requests". DH decided to try the on-line check in. When we got to the hotel at 7:30AM on check in day we went to the on-line check in line and didn't have to wait long. We only got 1 of our requests (4th floor) but was told that our room was ready right then. We asked the CM checking us in if there was anything else available that had all our request and there ended up being two different rooms in the 50's area in two different buildings but neither one would be available until after 3PM. We decided to stick with what we had and thanked the CM over and over for taking the time to look. She seemed fine with looking.

Have things changed since then?

A Resort CM friend told me that if a guest has specific requests they would liked filled, it is best not to do on line check-in as a courtesy to other guests and the CM's. The on-line check-in is meant to simplify the check-in process therefore guests usually walk up, get their keys etc and are on their way shortly.

We go to the regular check-in line because we like a certain bldg, location etc and so we know our packet and keys are not yet made up and a change would be simple for everyone. Rooms are still already assigned, any changes are easier becasue new keys do not need to be made and son on.. :thumbsup2

Hope this helps! :goodvibes

Thanks for all the help.

We did online check in last year, but we didn't have any special requests. I couldn't remember whether we could or not.:confused3

Its our first stay there so it is good to know that even the rooms that haven't been refurbed are still in good condition.

On another note.......excited about the new resort.:cool1::cool1:

Nope! You have to added to your ressie or fax it 5 days prior ! There is absolutely no were to add a room request unless the system has changed since december.

From what I have heard, faxes are pretty much just thrown away now-a-days. I'd simply call Disney and ask that they add your requests to your reservation. Give the requests to them in the order in which they are most important to you.

I have heard at certain resorts faxes are thrown out. But honestly I've been going for the last 4 yrs and I always note it on my Ressie and also Fax 4-5 days prior and have never been disappointed. Honestly I don't know which worked or if it was both but thats how I do it.:goodvibes

When I used On-line check in in Feb, there was a "Space" to put in WHAT room location you wanted...I put in building 2/3 50's section...I got it!:thumbsup2 However, for this past trip last weekend, I checked in 9 days prior and there WAS NO "SPACE" to put the request in!:sad2: So, needless to say, I got the 90's section which was WAY out of the way of the Main building!:guilty: So, I will NOT be doing the On-line check in ANYMORE!:headache:

Has anyone seen this yet? Do you think this is taking the place of the legendary years?

Walt Disney World Plans New Art of Animation Resort
Published on: May 13, 2010

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts unveiled plans for Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, one of the largest new hospitality projects in Florida creating hundreds of construction jobs in the state. The new resort, set to open by the end of 2012, will feature quality family suites designed around four unique themes: The Lion King, Finding Nemo, Cars and The Little Mermaid.

“We are always looking for opportunities to expand and enhance our Walt Disney World offerings, and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is a great example of those efforts. This new resort will feature some of our most beloved characters and stories in a unique and special way that we think our guests will really enjoy,” said Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “This project also underscores our optimism about the future, as we continue to invest in new experiences for our guests around the globe.”

Located adjacent to Disney’s Pop Century Resort, the new resort will include 1,120 family suites in The Lion King, Cars and Finding Nemo wings, and 864 themed rooms in The Little Mermaid wings -- for a total of almost 2,000 new units. Suites will feature both a living room and a bedroom, offering added space for families.

“These themes have both compelling storylines and vivid visuals which will come together to create a truly memorable, immersive resort experience,” said Eric Jacobson, senior vice president of Walt Disney Imagineering. “With more multi-generational families vacationing together, guests are looking for places where they can play together and stay together. This resort was designed with the needs of families in mind, as we continue the Disney tradition of providing a great guest experience for every taste and budget.”

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, the 26th resort at Walt Disney World, will be one-of-a-kind, with themed building exteriors and room interiors, and larger-than-life icons from the animated films in the courtyard areas. Walt Disney World Resort currently features 25 uniquely themed, Disney owned-and-operated resort hotels with more than 26,000 guest rooms. The new resort is expected to create more than 800 construction jobs, beginning immediately. All of the themed suites and rooms at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort are expected to open by the end of 2012.

Whole thread going on about it here:

I just wanted to give a quick update. My husband and I just returned from a week at Pop (5/7-5/14). I requested a refurbished room and a king bed and I was given both my requests. We were in the 90s (room 8203). The room was great, bed was comfy, and we loved the new carpet and flat screen tv. We took a few walks around the property but I didn't see any "refurb activity" going on in any other buildings. That doesn't mean it wasn't happening, just that I didn't see it.

I have heard at certain resorts faxes are thrown out. But honestly I've been going for the last 4 yrs and I always note it on my Ressie and also Fax 4-5 days prior and have never been disappointed. Honestly I don't know which worked or if it was both but thats how I do it.:goodvibes

Thats what I have done too

I haven't decided whether to request it or not. I am not sure if it is that important. Especially, when people have told me that the rooms are still in good shape.:thumbsup2

I'm staying in a 50s section room right now. So, obviously, not refurbed. I'm REALLY struggling to figure out where the "run down" label is coming from. The only stuff showing wear and tear is outside. The carpet in the room is clean, the comforters are in pretty good shape, the cushions on the chairs are clean, etc. I've noticed no problems. So I wouldn't worry about getting an old room.

Both times we've stayed at Pop, I requested what location we wanted and were given what we asked for, so I am confident that they try to place you where you want to be.

So where to ask for this year? It's such a tough decision. All along, I was going to ask for the lakeside of Building 4. It's where we stayed in 8/08 and I thought it was perfect--so close to the Hippie Dippy pool and food court. My son, however, wants a different location for the sake of trying something different, and I have to admit that I was looking forward to a new room.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with our room last year or the year before; it's not like the rooms really needed to be refurbed. But now that I know there are brand spanking new rooms, I want one.

So what to do? Ask for Building 4 because we know we love the location? Or Building 6 to get lakeside and a new room?
