POP refurbed rooms with Flat Screens! Update Page 13 **

I just booked a standard room for the middle of June. Can anyone tell me what the difference is exactly between a standard and a preferred room? Are there both types of rooms in each building/area of the resort or are they divided by room type? Sorry for asking so many questions but this is our first trip to Disney World.

Preferred rooms are indicated on the attached map with the YELLOW lines. Generally, they are closer to the main hall for food and buses.

I was just going to post the same ma.:)
Your other question about room type - all rooms are exactly the same in size and design. The only difference in a preferred room is that it can be closer to the Lobby, food court and buses etc. Some guests find that very helpful when carting young ones at the end the day. You can certainly request a room in a blg that is partly preferred - we've had the room directly after a pref room.
If you want to be close, but not preferred, I would suggest requesting 60's bldg 4 or 5. We payed for preferred once, but found we liked the non preferred locations better as we like to be on the lake side where it is peaceful and pretty.
Happy planning! :goodvibes

who thinks the removal of the storage space is a bad idea. It looks like we have lost at least a third of the drawer/shelf space as well as the top of the old cabinet where we always had hat/ears and other things placed.

Where am I going to put everything now??:sad2:

I dont think you're the only one and I'd definitely contact Disney about your concerns. Let them know. I think that part of the refurb is a bit misguided myself.

I think the smaller entertainment center/dresser would give more space to the room. What about trying one of these from a PP:

Also, I packed cheap plastic hangers and hung up most of our clothes when we went, and then left the hangers behind at the end of the trip so we would have room for souvenirs. Just a suggestion...

We used the top of the old armoire to store a lot of stuff too. I think next trip, we'll be putting more things on the shelf over the clothes hangers.

We got something very similar at Walmart for about $7.00! It works great and holds so much!! We got one for each of the girls and then bought some collapsable stoarge boxes at the dollar store, works great for them to slide in and out of the bottom one for their socks and under garments. Going again in May, can post pics when we get back. :)

Half of the 70's is done now.

SO.. depending on how things go.. most of the resort should be done by June.

If you want to be sure at this point you'd need to book building 6. We know it's completed.

But then reports were they skipped the big wheel building and started on 80s & 90s. Not sure why they didn't finish 70s. :confused3

Anyone have anything new to report?

Does anyone know which rooms are closer to food court? Preferred 50's or preferred 70's? Debating if I should request one. Any reviews??:thumbsup2

Preferred 70s are closer to the food court.
Everything Pop (food court and shop area) is on that end of the lobby building.
So are the bus stops out front.

The other end (nearer to 50s) is check-in, luggage services, that sort of thing.

Can someone post the buildings with the preferred rooms highlighted? I had it in my favorites but can't find it now. Thanks!!!!

Okay! Now it is my turn to post my pictures. I'm sure they are old news by now but oh well, here's our pictures.

We stayed at POP Thurs March 18-Sun March 21st. I requested building 6, upper floor room and got building 6, 4th floor, room 6408. I could not have asked for a better room!!

We enjoyed the TV but would have liked to have a fridge instead. When you are on the DDP or when you aren't even, it's nice to store extra desserts that you can't eat and milk from the CS (if you have the mugs already). You aren't really in your room to be watching TV. We only own one flat screen TV in my house so that is not a huge deal for us.

These were in all of the rooms in building 6, 4th floor.

The storage was fine for us--my brother and I. He lived out of his suitcase which went on the rack in front of the window..off to the side and I unpacked and used two drawers and the hangers. I would for sure either bring extra hangers or request more unless you don't mind hanging multiple things on one hanger. For 4 adults, the storage might be an issue unless you are living to live out of your suitcase.

We really did have a perfect room. I was not able to explore the other building since we were only there for 3 full days and our last day it rained cats and dogs before we left for MCO. Our room was spotless. Our mousekeeper left all kinds of goodies from tooth brush towel holders to decorating our window with a birthday card! Her name was Lillian if you are able to request. We asked for extra towels and to have my poor broken suitcase taken to the trash and it was done above and beyond. We left extra tips daily!

Anyways, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! We had an awesome trip at POP!

Are those coat pegs on the wall?

Yes! They were very nice to have. I would take a drawstring backpack for in the parks and it was nice to come back and hang that on the hook. I also had an older WDW tote bag that we used when we went to TL and I hung that on there until I was able to empty it and shake out the sand :)
