Pop Century Never Again!!!!!!!

We have two "preferred" rooms booked from 9/15-9/22, and I actually decided on Pop instead of Coronado because I liked it better - now I am regretting it! It really sounds like the hotel has gone downhill since we stayed there in 2005.:confused3

We just came back from 6 days at POP and had no problems either with mousekeeping or the room, front desk, concierge, or the food court. Disney busses run at the top of the hour and are scheduled for 20 past and 20 of the hour so there should be no more than a 25 minute wait for a bus. After 30 minutes, you should track someone down. How can you give up 2 hours of your day waiting in the hot sun? Better luck next time.

I am so sorry you experienced bedbug problems at Pop. That is not supposed to happen at Disney to anyone.

We've been to Pop and we haven't had anything horribly wrong so far. BUT - if I should get a bedbug-filled room I will scream - LOUDLY! :scared1:

Thanks for posting so that we're all more aware of the possibility of those
unwanted roommates.

I hope that you will never have to deal with this problem ever again.

in Sept and March and will be there in Nov. we LOVED POP, you wont regret it, I find that people discuss bad experiences but not too many "regular" experiences........ Im sorry u had a lousy scene, Its a shame after u have looked forward to a trip for so long (and saved like crazy for it ) Hope your next trip is magical;)

I was unhappy with the "feel" of YC after 3 days, and asked to be moved. 10 days is a long time to be miserable - did you think of asking to be switched to another Value or even to considering upgrading?? When I checked out of YC, I realized 12 hours later, I had left an entire drawerful of clothes! They tracked down mousekeeping and it was sent over to WL with double efficiency - both the front desks and Bell Services were ON it!

Hi! Can you tell me what you didn't live about the YC? We are planning on staying there next summer. Thanks!

We just returned today from our first stay at Pop Century and we thought it was fine. Our room was clean (no bed bugs, thank goodness) and we were pleasantly surprised by our experience. We usually stay deluxe, so I was a little worried.

We thought it was a cute resort and were pleased with our stay.

Sorry you had a bad experience.

We just returned from POP on the 30th from a 10 day stay. We had an absolutely wonderful experience. We were in a standard room in the 80's section with Roger Rabbit. All the rooms in that area had small towel animals heads (dogs) in the windows. Our mousekeeper was great! There was a surprise waiting for the kids every night. She would help redecorate our already decorated connecting room windows. She posed the animals on the floor, it was so neat. We did not have problems with bugs. Although, the first thing we did when we checked in was check the four beds.

I'm very sorry you had a bad experience and I'm also sorry for the way it was handled. Just remember that even the Ritz isn't immune to bedbuds.

Sorry to the OP that you had such a bad experience.:sad2: Just wanted to point out though that bed bugs are not unique to POP and are not just a "value" resort problem. If you search these forums you will find that bed bugs have appeared for other guests at POR, POFQ, CSR, CR, WL and a few others. I tend to find that the resort food courts are PACKED for most of the day during the "busy" time of year therefore making it harder to stay on top of cleaning the tables, floors, etc. I am not condoning filthy conditions, simply stating where the problem might lie. When staying at a large resort I think it would be the same regardless of what resort category it is. I agree 100% though about how hot it is waiting for the buses at the values.

We are staying at POP in 5 days. We stayed there two years ago, and enjoyed it for the most part. The bed bug thing is scary. Any suggestions on the best way to handle it if it happens to us? I would want to be moved very very far away from that!

I am just appalled that they knew about the problem, didn't mention it to you and didn't offer to replace your luggage and all your clothes - which are most likely infested now. That is so unacceptable.

While I'm not defending POP or how it was handled - just keep in mind that bedbugs aren't a result of dirty conditions. They can infest someone's luggage and from there they spread like wildfire. It's so gross to even think about that I have the jeebies just thinking about it. Ugh.

Sorry you had such a bad stay! THat really bites!!

I have already stayed there twice this year and it has been great. Buses have been good, except for one time coming home from Epcot. Mousekeeping has been great and when I did use the foodcourt, it was good.

Thanks to the poster explaining bed bugs!

While Disney did handle the bedbug issue poorly ("We thought it was taken care of"?) in that they should not have used the room until they were SURE of its condition, it should be noted that Disney does not condone, breed, grow, or otherwise invest in bedbugs. They are generally introduced into a hotel room by a guest whose home, and therefore belongings, are infested.

It's too bad the OP wasn't happy with Pop Century. However, if the first room, even at 500 feet, was in the Preferred 'zone' (which could have been determined by asking here, where, in response someone would have posted a link to WillCAD's map outlining the Preferred room locations at Pop) I'm curious how their party felt about getting around the parks, or even from the buses TO the parks - since, for example and just off the top of my head, it's more than 500 feet from the Epcot bus area to the first Epcot attraction. Also, as somebody else noted, while some Cast Members may not speak English as well as we would like, it's interesting that 2/3 of the cashiers on a given shift spoke no English.

Sorry for your experience at Pop Century, but Housekeeping actually doesn't discard things left behind. I left my mobile phone charger behind at the Yacht Club on our last stay there and realized it at the airport literally almost 10 hours after checking out. I called the resort, they had the charger and they were preparing to mail it back to me already - I had it two days after we got home.

I hope your next Disney resort experience is a better one.

We've stayed at Pop many times including a few months ago. I've always found the resort including the rooms, food court, and grounds to be clean and attractive. I usually book a nonpreferred room as I have a service dog and we need to take walks anyway. As was mentioned above, if housekeeping finds items left in a room, it is sent to a lost and found location, not thrown away. As to the bus situation, I'd have contacted a manager inside after waiting that long. Two hours???? I'm sorry the OP had a bad time but I can honestly say I've never had any of those experiences at Pop. To contrast we were at WL at the end of July using our DVC points and bell services lost my medical equipment for 10 hours causing a visit by the EMT's. It was buried under someone else's luggage. Poor service can happen anywhere. I wonder if there is an official policy regarding bedbugs since I've read about others at different WDW resorts finding them. For instance do they normally "dust" for them and allow guests to remain in those rooms or do they normally move someone to another room? I thought to eradicate bedbugs that a room needed total fumigation vs. just a "dusting". I know I'd not want to stay in an infested room and would certainly ask to be moved somewhere, anywhere!---Kathy

I can deal with rude staff, long waits for a bus, long waks to my room, paper thin walls, small TV's, etc. but I cannot deal with bed bugs!

I am PHOBIC and I am staying at Pop in 18 days. I will be ripping off the sheets and checking the mattress out before my BF or our luggage goes anywhere near the front door of the room!

OP, I am very sorry that you had a bad experience. I really appreciate you sharing your experience, though. Knowing (about bed bags) is half the battle :thumbsup2

disney service has gone down hill in the last 4 to 5 years,,its just a job to them not like it used to be,,so i find my own way around,,and do not ever leave a tip there ,,they donnt give the service i t used to be,,,and your right nthe only ones who speak english well ,,are the ones who say!!!visa or mastercard!!!

While we don't like to think about the exsistence of these little critters, this article was helpful in knowing what to check for at any hotel!!! Thanks Twende!

I imagine Disney has had their share of these uninvited guest accompany their invited guests(who are unaware of the hitchhikers), into what are usually pristine rooms, along with the tropical climate I can imagine this can be quite the challenge.

Sorry to Raenyny, in all my experiences with staying at Disney(10?) I have found them to be really concerned with making what is wrong, right, whenever possible. Sorry it didn't work out that way for you, if your looking to try a new resort can't say enough good about the Poly!

That may be your experience but it has not been mine.

Through no fault of Disney's or mine, my last visit got off to a rocky start. The Cast Members at Luggage Assistance were wonderful! When I thanked one of them, she said, 'You're not just a Guest at Disney World, you're my Guest'.

When I asked - just out of curiosity, planning to do it next time - if orange juice could be included with a breakfast platter on the DDP, the cashier left the line and got me one!

I did encounter two Cast Members in a week who gave wrong information, and stopped at City Hall just to let them know in general that this happened, not naming the CMs; and one with whom I did have an actual issue about attraction access, which was resolved by a supervisor.

For the record, all these Cast Members spoke perfect English, as did, for that matter, the two CP CMs in Norway with whom I had a lovely conversation about their country. I've never encountered any Cast Member at Walt Disney World, or Disney Land (or in fairness, at Universal, IOA, or SeaWorld), with whom I could not communicate - and my Spanish is REALLY limited; my French is worse, and any other language I might speak is either disappearing or too immature even for Disney World (ubby dubby, anyone?), so the larger effort was made by the Cast Member.
