I'm wondering if there is a lot of mold and water damage and if it would have to be torn down anyway even if they plan on rebuilding it sometime soon. :confused3

I was wondering the same thing! I don't think I'd want to stay in those rooms even if they did finish them based on those pics.

There is no interior construction .. flat concrete walls for the most part.. Those concrete walls can literally be sandblasted if necessary to remove any mold etc.

And then the buildings can simply be treated and then finished walls and floors installed.

Who knows at this point tho if they'll keep those buildings .. or tear them down.. the loss in tearing them down wouldn't be huge.. there are only two 'pods' of 3 wings .. actually built.

The main "Legendary Hall" building is actually used as a staging area for maintenance people so that building is actually probably better maintained.

i can't believe all the responses from people who would have changed staying at pop just because of those buildings! they didn't affect me in any way and i wouldn't think about staying at music, sports, or movies because of the fact that they are not completed. in fact, i didn't even notice them until i decided to take a walk over to the generation gap bridge. we stayed in the 50's section and faced the pool. i never once saw the unfinished buildings. i love pop and i'm staying there again (for the 3rd time) in 3 days!

It would be great if Disney would turn those shells into Family Suites, since it seems that the AS Family Suites are always booked up. I am not really fond of the All Stars, but I will be staying there again because they have the Family Suites and our bunch needs them on our next trip. I would much rather stay at Pop, we loved the theming there better, and the food court, and the shop, and just everything.

From the rumor mill................

I read on another site that on the 1/6/07 WDW Radio Show Podcast (Hosted by Lou Mongello) it was reported that not only will the Legendary Years of Pop Century not open, they will be torn down.

It was later discussed that IF construction ever restarted they would have to tear down the 2 hotel buildings but Legendary Hall could be finished.

I would take this with a HUGE grain of salt considering some of the other rumors he reported during this PodCast............ :confused3

One would think that if that rumor had 'serious legs' -- they would have been torn down in the last 12 months.. ??

I dunno.. who knows what to believe with this situation.

They would most likely have to tear down the exisiting buildings and start from scratch. I feel they would make it a DVC hotel, as Disney seems to think everyone wants that, I for one, Don't.:sad2: They are busy right now, with Contemporary DVC and AKL DVC so I don't see any of those buildings being worked on till 2009 and maybe completed by 2010.;)

Just remembering my quote from WAY back, and how it MAY come true!;)

I don't think the buildings look terrible at all. From afar you really can't tell what shape they are in. What I think needs to be done is landscaping. Thats what makes it look a little grundgy over there. Over grown weeds.

When I stayed at the PoP in August I had a view of the lake. Seeing the buildings didn't give me an un-Disney feel. It just seemed like a part of the Disney history. Sure it would be nice of all of Disney's history was happy and magical but not all is. If anything sadness came from what the unfinished building represented. 9/11 and how it changed our world in the time following.

I'll be updating these pics with new ones to be taken in June of 2008.

For those great pictures...its a shame they don't re-open up Discovery Island..they could make it into "Pirates Island" with Pirates chasing us around and around and around.....:woohoo: I would love to be chased and Caught by Captain Jack!

Years ago, when DI was nearing its end, I remember rumors of a Myst-themed island. There were also discussions of a full-blown wedding location with honeymoon suites. Just goes to show you how times have changed--now we dream of Pirates.

is it june yet??!!

(waiting for canadianguy to take new pix of legendary years!!)

What happened to the animals on Discovery Island? It seems like some of them were non-native and endangered, did they just abandon them there?

Most of the Animals from Discovery Island were sent to Animal Kingdom iirc. If they didn't fit in there i'm sure they were given to various Zoos in Florida. The island itself now is used for storage/a bird city :P

I took these a few weeks ago. I posted them on the pop picture thread already!
