Pop Century is Far Out!

Tyler, thanks for posting the map, it looks great!

I have a few questions.
Will they have bike rentals at all? I thought I read that they would at some other web site but it was only at one site and the official WDW site doesn't mention that they will but I was just wondering. It looks like it would be a great resort for the surrey bikes.
Is the bridge across Hourglass Lake open to walk across? Does it take you to where the other section of PC will be?
Do they have capuccino in the food court?

Hey Tyler, I was there in June 9-16 at ASMo I looked for you, but didn't see a Tyler bus driver. I don't know if you remember, given the number of people on the DIS boards, but I took a group of 35 people to WDW. Your info in postings and PMs helped a lot. Thanks!

Post a pic so we all know what you look like!

Also, where should fan mail go? Your email, or your boss'? ;)

One of the differences between a Value and a Moderate is that a Moderate will have bike rental, and a Marina. Pop Century, being a Value resort, will not have either one of these amenities. However, I have heard talks about both items. Surrey bikes could be a possibility, however, Im not so sure they'd go well with the resort. The inside of the resort is a lot denser than it appears. As for boats... Disney property wide will actually be getting all new Water Mice. These new boats will be made by Brunswick, an official Disney sponser (for bonus points, does anyone know Brunswick's relationship with Pop Century?). The new boats will be slightly larger, and slightly faster. Don't have any information as to when they will arrive, or any details past what I have said.

The bridge is open partially. It will eventually lead to the Legendary Years, which is partially built. As for cappuccino, I saw coffee and hot chocolate on the 4 beverage bars, but I can't remember seeing a cappuccino machine. HOWEVER, it could possibly be located at one or both of our bars, Classic Concoctions at the food court, or Petal's Pool Bar.

Did I guess correctly, Tyler?

I won't be at Pop Century until late May but we're really looking forward to having a blast.

Thanks for the great info.

Crazyforgoofy got to it first. I was doing my posting late today.

Thanks for a trivia buzz this morning Tyler.
;)

Thanks again Tyler for all of the good info and also for the picture of the copy of the map.

Your the best......looking forward to meeting you.

Tyler, will be you doing 'pin trading'? My girls just bought their laynards on our last trip, but they are too shy to go and to CM's to ask about trading. If you are going pin trading, maybe I can get them to give it a try.

Just wondering. Thanks again for all of the updates!

Ding ding ding, and we have some winners. The Bowling pins are correct. Now for even more bonus points, does anyone know why the Brunswick Bowling pins are a significant item for the 1950s?

As for pin trading... I'm sorry... I'm not a pin person. But plenty of my co-workers are! And they'd LOVE to trade with anyone :)

...Brunswick was the first to introduce automatic pinsetters in the 1950's. This appealed to the masses and ushered in the bowling craze.

Thanks for the info Tyler. We'll just have to tour the PC on foot. DD loves the surey bikes and was hoping to get a chance to rent one this trip, if we have time we'll just have to rent 1 at a different resort.

So, Tyler, is it going to be ok to be there at 10 am on opening day? I want to get checked in, fully unpack, and walk the resort before we have to be at MVMCP.

TIA Maggie

Not quite sure how it will go on that day. Most of the day, I'm guessing (hoping) will be staggered, however I know there will be the bunch that will want to be there right at 10:00.

For your convenience, I strongly encourage the use of the Luggage Assistance service. Within an hour of your room being ready, your bags will be delivered automatically. I'm assuming that the rooms will mostly be ready since it is first day. (But you never know)

We're only opening about 15% of the resort on the first day, so things should be under control. :)

forgive me for asking this - I really did not want to go through 20 pages -

can you see the fireworks from Epcot at this resort?

I know you can see them from CBR - so I was hopping that you can from PCR....

thanks

you are so sweet to answer questions for us here!!!! thanks!

I wouldn't bet on it. Most of Illuminations is low-level fireworks. Because Pop Century is surrounded by foliage and tall trees, and is further back than CBR, I doubt you could see much of the fireworks. However, I've yet to be at Pop that late at night, so I can't say for certain.

Tyler....
We usually handle our own baggage, since we drive down, it will be safely stored in our car until we can get into a room. But since we are in a preferred view room, I think it would be nice to borrow a cart at least. Since the parking for the 60's building looks a bit farther out than what most of the other decades seem to have to deal with, I think we will certainly get a workout carrying in the luggage by ourselves. My honey is really weird about worrying about things being stolen. She had a bad experience with a leather jacket being stolen from her luggage on her way home from London a few years ago, so she throws a fit about letting other people mess with her stuff. Oh well, we shall see. Thanks for the heads up! Maggie

I don't like to have other handle our bags either. It just feels 'safer' to take them ourselves (although at AKL in September, we did let them do it only because we were a bit confused on the whole set up/location).

I love the 'cart' thing. They have those at Disney's Hilton Head Resort, and they were very nice to use. I am glad to hear that PC will have them.
