DS 17 has been sick more than he's been well ever since school started. He'll be okay for a few days and then go right back to having this nasty fever, cough, and sore throat.

Took him to the doctor, and the doc sent us to the hospital for lab work (they don't do it in office). Well, DS passed out and fell out of his chair! I knew something was up because he was in the lab for a really long time and then this nurse came running out looking very somber. :scared1: They put him in a wheelchair and took him over to the ER to make sure he wasn't hurt by the fall and to check him over more carefully.

Good thing! The ER doctor wanted to pay a little more attention to the bronchitis and sent him to X-ray where they found pneumonia. :sad2:

Is it just me or do you hear of more and more younger people getting pneumonia than in the past? When I was young, it was an old person's ailment, wasn't it?

At any rate, send some good thoughts his way. He's pretty bummed and he's feeling pretty miserable lately. Also he's a mean cuss when he's sick, so I'm hoping for a speedy recover.

Yes, it does seem like more and more kids are getting pneumonia. (Although come to think of it, I had pneumonia at 2 1/2 many years ago. ;) ) My dd now 9 had pneumonia at 5 1/2. I also babysit a 2 yr old little girl who just had it along with her 2 sisters who are 12 and 8. In fact, the 12 yr old has been at the hospital again today because they think she has pneumonia again. I hope your son feels better soon! :goodvibes

I'm not sure more young people are getting it, I just think the doctors are more diligent about diagnosing it. I had pneumococcal pneumonia when I was 28, just after my 2nd DD was born. Ended up in respiratory failure on a ventilator. Thankfully I had great care and survived. My message, because of this, is take good care of him and make him rest and get better. I was extremely healthy and had nothing that would have compromised my immune system. I hope your DS feels better soon!

Oh that's too bad, especially with all the extra activities this time of year. Make sure he gets plenty of rest and liquids. I hope he feels better soon, how long does pneumonia take to run its course?

Sheree, I didn't think to ask how long it would take. I'll have to call and find out tomorrow.

The pharmacist was just telling me that her 15 year old son just got over pneumonia too. She said a lot of people think it's mono because it makes them so tired -- and that's exactly what we thought! It's really knocked him out, that's for sure.

All that happened to me when I was diagnosed with pneumonia in JUNE (except the passing out). I spent two weeks thinking I had a bad cold before waking up one morning unable to breathe. My mom took me to the doctor, who immediately sent me to the ER at the hospital my dad is the administrator of (that was weird to me). I spent the rest of that week in the hospital under a croup tent with a nasal canula (sp?). Grrr.... that was bad. The only perk was that my dad's hospital is a small one and the cafeteria food is all homemade- so I got fed really well.:goodvibes And since I'm the boss's daughter, I got treated like royalty.:rolleyes1

Make sure he rests, rests, rests! DH had pnemonia not too long ago, and it kicked his butt! Thankfully he caught it early, or he would have surely been out much longer. I think he was in bed for 3 days! Sending well thoughts your way!

I hope your DS gets better quickly, because pneumonia is a drag! Especially with Christmas is two weeks!

Poor kid. I had it last winter, and it knocked me for a total loop.

Hope he gets better soon :grouphug:
