Pool at Poly is such a let down!

Recent posts on Tikiman's FB page are stating that the gate is not locking properly and that people who are not Poly guests are still getting in to enjoy the pool.

I honestly don't think the new fence around the Poly pool has anything to do with keeping out pool hoppers although that may be a positive side effect to it, but only to a small degree. I think it was done for legal/liability issues only. The Poly management has never made any serious attempt at keeping out pool hoppers IMO. The only thing that will effectively keep out pool hoppers is to do what they do at BC/YC, having employees posted at the gates. If you are letting yourself into the gate using your magic band, what are you going to do for the people standing right behind you that are about to enter? You will hold the gate open for them, not slam the gate shut to make sure they are staying at the Poly, right? If people want to get in badly enough, they will. Probably just in reduced numbers now.

Don't be so sure:thumbsup2

I don't remember having to leave SAB to get to the pool bar at BC/YC. The bar is right in the middle of SAB. Or is my memory failing again? lol

I'm pretty sure it was right next to hurricane hannah's so we had to walk over there to get a drink then get scanned to get back in. It wasn't far or anything, just could be a bit of a pain!

FWIW, I don't believe the fence was intended to keep non-resort guests out of the Poly main pool. However, a MB with resort guest privileges is necessary to enter when the gate does work, so who really knows what Disney's intent is? They certainly could have fenced in the pool without requiring a scan of a MB to enter if they only wanted the fence for safety purposes.

And if I were staying at one of the resorts that has this fenced feature, I would not be holding the gate open for the next guest. I'm kind of spiteful like that. If they're staying at the same resort, then they have a MB to open the gate and get in. If they're not, then they can hang around like vultures to wait for someone else to let them in.

I felt second class, because they caged in all the tables and chairs, yet left a little of the bar open for those without clearance to buy a drink. You just can't sit in first class, or sit at all really. I even tried to go in with my wrist band, no luck. They are only required to fence the pool, not the whole area.

You are going to really hate the new Oasis bar and grill at the Oasis pool when it is done. The whole thing will be inside the fence.
Easy fix is to go to a bar with no fence.

Ugh, I was really looking forward to that sitting area in the pool with the jets this summer. That area was the best thing about the pool to me!

So are they really enforcing entry for Poly guests only? Do you need to scan your band to get in the pool area? I certainly hope so.

As of several days ago, I had to scan my band to get in at the one gate ONE night. But the other days, I did not. I asked at the front desk, and they said they were having some issues with the gates not working. I guess as soon as they get issue straightened out, you will need to scan your band.

ie: Universal - just saying....

I like the idea of the pools having fencing around them. I wish Disney would put fences around all the pools like they have at BC/YC. I don't mind scanning my MB or having a CM check to be sure I'm a guest. It's part of the amenities you pay for at the resort. I also don't see that it's that big of a deal about the bar area. You can still access the bar and there are other areas to sit and drink. Personally, I think the beach would be a better location to relax with a drink than the pool area.

I could not see myself purposely shutting the gate right behind me when there was someone right behind me. I would feel so rude. I would be one to let the pool hoppers in by just trying to be nice! They need employees with scanners, just like at SAB.

Maybe a liability issue... Don't want people getting drunk and falling off their stools then rolling into the pool. Think of it more as a drunk stopper than a fence.

:-)

Wow - now that's just awful if one does that. This is getting out of hand.

Well don't sweat it because I wasn't serious. Sheesh....I only slam doors in the faces of little old ladies and kick puppies.

You pay for the Poly, you should enjoy the privilege of the Poly pool. You pay for the All Stars , you use their pool. Simple. I know folks hop around and whatever, that's on them. They should follow SAB's example and enforce it at the Poly as well.

We got that message Jhaig - we know this. We are actual hotel guests of the Poly.

There is lots of seating by the marina (tables), Captain Cooks (tables), and beach (lounge chairs).

We have stayed at both moderates and deluxes. Disney is our annual splurge for our family of 5. We are NOT filthy rich and are a dual income family. We love our pool time and there is nothing more frustrating then not being able to find a few spots by the pool. The Poly pools are appropriate size and number for the size of the resort and not to accommodate pool hoppers - plain and simple. There is nothing more frustrating to hear a large group bragging about pool hopping and you were lucky enough to find two chairs for the rate you chose to splurge on. I was there in April and I'll take the fence so I can enjoy the amenities I'm paying for. Flame me but if you want to enjoy a cocktail at the pool budget for it like we do! (One in college too!)

I can see the OP's point. Stormalong Bay is fenced in and the pool area is highly enforced, however, Hurricane Hanna's pool bar has plenty of seating outside the fence. It's much more welcoming to those who might be visiting the resort and would like to observe the pool and it's environs. The BC/YC did a good job in making the pool both welcoming to non-resort guests while still keeping the pool exclusive to resort guests. The Poly is a much older resort, and likely didn't have enough space to work with when they did the redesign of the pool area.

Hated having to go in and out and wait in line with both guests and non-guests!
