Do the parks sell ponchos for kids if it rains? If so are they really expensive?

Yes and I think they are $8.00. We always bring from home - I found some at Walmart (in their camping section) for $1.00 and also at Target for $1.49. Just keep them in our backpack that we take to parks!

Yes, just buy the little $1 packet ones (I buy them at Family Dollar). They are cheap, but they work and fit in a pocket nicely. Once no longer needed, just throw away and bring a fresh one the next day.

Slightly off topic but I hate when I take pics with the characters while I have a rain poncho on. When I get home and people see the pictures they say, "Well I know that's Donald Duck but who are you supposed to be??" Have people never seen a rain poncho before???

We just got back and luckily it only rained one of the days we were there. However it poured for several hours and we were happy to have ponchos. I bought some on Amazon before our trip. I think it was about 6 dollars for a 4 pack. They also sell kids sized ones on amazon as well. We were really happy to have them. However, even with our ponchos, our shoes/socks got really wet which was annoying, that I wished I would have had flip flops or some other kind of waterproof shoe on during the rain, lessen learned. The ponchos also came in handy on our last day because we were not going to have time to change but my daughter wanted to do a ride where you get pretty wet, so we wore those, so only our hair really got wet.

Whenever we need to use a poncho I always cut them down the front so we can put them on and take them off easily.
Nancy:thumbsup2

Thank you for starting this thread. My wife and are will be at WDW at the end of June. We know afternoon cloudbursts are common, as are heat and humidity. What type or brand will protect you from the rain, not be too heavy to wear in the hot, humid weather, and, can be worn on those few 'wet' rides, like Kali River Rapids. I like the sound of disposable ponchos from the dollar store as something light to fold and carry, and then throw away once used.

THat's what I use. They come folded in a flat little rectangle packet, though once opened you will never get them folded back down again. I just toss mine, or if I sued it for a ride like Kali River Rapids, offer it to someone heading into the line. They're only $1 so I bring several.

We typically just grab the $1 ones too..However on the last trip in February, we just didn't think about it and we got caught in a huge rainstorm. Talk about some pricey ponchos. I think for the 4 of us it was like $40 or something. We kept them, but there is no way we will ever get them folded up small enough to keep in the backpack, so I guess we will be taking the $1 ones for this upcoming trip. :)

Thats what we did, but my DD riped hers up (it was a old poncho) so we did buy her one while we are there.

I'd rather have 8 of the $1 cheap ones than 1 of the $8 Disney ones.

The ones Disney sells are too thick and they become a humidity terrarium.

They both keep me dry but the thinner ones keep me more comfortable.

I've always thought the biggest problem with the $1 ponchos is that you've got to carry around a bunch of ponchos. Not a big deal if you're already carrying a bag but if you, like me, like to try to keep all of your day's needs in your pockets, it just adds bulk. Between my phone, extra batteries, water bottle, etc., my cargo shorts already look like I'm a chipmunk storing nuts for the winter.

With that being the case, I might bring one with me if it really looks like there is significant rain on the way, but if all I'm facing is the routine afternoon shower, it's worth just planning on ducking into a show, attraction, or shop for a bit -- and running the risk that I might have to buck up for the Disney poncho if a serious rain shower unexpectedly hits -- just to not carry it around.

To each their own though! :thumbsup2

Those little dollar disposable ponchos are a nightmare especially if you are carrying a bag..no way will a backpack, purse or bag fit under them...the hood part is always way too big and flimsy and always blows down and they are so light they blow up all the time!! we have been there done it and will never do that again!! You end up getting wetter with those little suckers!! We just pay the $8 and be done..and the great thing is if they rip just take them back in a shop in the park and they will gladly replace it. Those little dollar shop numbers are good for normal rain but try them in Florida's summer monsoons!! thats a different kettle of fish.

I bring only what will fit in my cargo shorts as well, therefore only 1 poncho per day. It fits easily in a pocket. If I do think I'll need it again I might hang onto it (looped on belt), but otherwise, it goes away.

If youre talking about ponchos for kids, don't forget about ponchos for their strollers.

Dollar Tree sells shower curtain liners for $1 each. We carry one each day and can use it for a poncho or it makes for a nice "blanket" to sit on if you have a FP+ for Wishes. After you use it, throw it away.
