Poll- Your Pet peeves

My biggest pet peeve would be coming down with a serious illness like leukemia prior to the cruise. Most of the rest of posts here are small potatoes in comparison.

I understand your point, and have empathy for it, but having someone in my family who has a blood condition that's not treatable and from the same family of leukaemia, life goes on, and pet peeves are still there. Maybe less important but still there.

DD1 just admitted the other day in a blog written for martial arts that she has classmates at school that "hate" her because she always follows the rules and they think she's a goody goody.

I immediately thought of a few situations on the Fantasy that she almost went out of her way to be polite and adults didn't acknowledge. ...:confused3

Sorry but if you're looking for acknowledgement or a pat on the back, that is "goody goody" behavior. Do it because it's the right thing to do not because you're trying to get something out of it.

Not picking on your post, but I have heard this before on the ship. I understand that it would be annoying if someone right in front of you suddenly threw a child up right in front of your face, but my son is 40 inches in a sea of 5 and 6 ft adults. I'm not exactly sure what the expectation is, but I'm not strong enough to hold him in my arms for 20 minutes so up on the shoulders he goes- mostly to keep him from getting stomped by all the milling adults.

The solution would be to get to the party earlier and make sure your child is in the front, or to go stand along the railing on deck 10 so your child won't be as squished and can see better. The best thing is to hold your child but I understand that can be tiring. Even so, I don't want a child on someone's shoulders just to appear in front of me! Really it's not the child's fault here, completely the parents.

I find that if parents just ask a taller adult in front of them if their child could stand it front to see, most people will say yes. It's the fact that people don't ask courteously.

Soo... I dislike the crowd that thinks there is a line that needs to be formed at the "entrance" to the buffet! Mind you... I know there are sectional lines ( dessert, salad bar, meats) ... But seriously... If your busy topping your salad and sides and fixing your children's plates also... I'm going to move on to next sections line!

:-).

So true, I would just weave in and out and start at each section where there was food I wanted. This is how a free flow buffet is supposed to work, the CM explained it, yet no one understood! People were death staring me because they kept thinking I was "cutting in line." Well sorry but I'm following directions! :rolleyes1

I'm going to repeat one I said earlier because it bothers me that much: people who disrespect Crew Members. They're people too, many some of the nicest people I've met. They're not just a server, or just a housekeeper. They are a person who has feelings and would probably appreciate friendly guest interaction or at least common courtesy.

Also, people who don't measure their children before they get in line for a slide. This causes the line to move slower as many people have to escort their upset child down the stairs. Signs are made for a reason people. (I'm talking about kids who are waaaay too small. Not just an inch or so.) :scared:

Diapered kids in the pool.
Housekeeping carts outside your door all day everyday.

Oh myyyy... nail on the head!...both for me as well..especially the diaper one.. on my 2nd cruise i saw a baby in the pool with a diaper with brown liquid being dissolved and sipping thru the diaper and in the pool..gross. i notified a CM and they closed the pool...ban diapers in the pool!!

But that's my second one.. First:

People who get in the pool almost entirely dressed. shirt, pants and "pool shoes"...especially religious women and "big" people.. disgusting.

Kids in the adult areas. Get OUT! I have kids and I adore my kids but they are not welcome in the adult areas and that rule should be respected.

Parents who think their little darlings don't have to follow the above rule. :crazy2:

Per CDC regulations, non-potty trained children and swim diapers (or diapers) are not allowed in the pools already. They are already banned (and it is on DCL's site). Doesn't mean people will assume they are the one person exempt from the rule, however. :sad2:

The 'excellent' remarks from servers....it really bugs me. The 'I hope everything was excellent' / 'is there anything I can do to make it more excellent' we get so frequently from servers and head servers ( which is worse IMO ) comes across as fake and is a direct plea for an Excellent rating on the survey at the end. I know how vital that Excellent is to them but I only tick Excellent or tip extra when we've actually had excellent service, not when we've felt prompted to by the servers constantly throwing in the Excellent word.

My only other peeve is when people leave their clothes in a dryer for hours after their cycle is finished and there is a line of people waiting....grrr! I try to not do laundry on board for that reason.

incident i described was in 2012..didn't know about the cdc regs...but it's awesome..
that said, even on our latest cruise this past march i saw at the very least 2 babies in the pool with their parents...with the swim diapers...some people...:furious:

The CMs hand you an alcohol wipe before meals.

Actually, they're non-alcoholic wipes. The alcohol ones (and alcohol-based hand sanitizers) are best for many things, such as cold and flu viruses, but noro-virus (e.g. "the cruise ship bug") is highly resistant to alcohol, so they would do little good.

My pet peeve is when others request certain servers or dining rotation. Because for me as a first time cruiser, I feel like I may not get the server or rotation that would be top notch.
Why not let DCL assign? That's how it should be! It seems that there are cruisers that think they deserve better treatment than others.

With all due respect, I don't think cruisers think they deserve better treatment by requesting servers that they know. I was behind a lady that had so many cruises on DCL she knew everbody by name. Hey, I thought, can you get me into Palo twice? :dance3: You never know, you could be at the most wonderful table and everybody is looking at you like "why aren't my servers doing that?" And you may request them again. Who knows. Don't worry so much about that. Enjoy your cruise! Until you get to a chair hog ;) :) ;)

I absolutely LOATHE hand sanitizer. I am all for washing hands and do it frequently, but I refuse to use hand sanitizer. I'm in the camp of "you keep killing everything and pretty soon there won't be anything to protect you!" This sanitize everything (grocery carts, the seats, etc) is getting out of hand, how will your immune system know how to protect you!

Sorry, the microbiologist in me came out!

My pet peeve is the iPAD camera, that thing is HUGE!

Let's be sensible here. It is for only a few days of your life, you can go back home and use water and soap there. It's a lot easier to have hand wipes than have a sink outside the ship or restaurants and they are only trying to do if for everyone's benefit. After all the people that complain about using them would be the first people to complain about getting any bug on the cruise.
