Poll- Your Pet peeves

Adults that come on a Disney cruise without children and then complain about the kids!! What do they expect?? It's a Disney cruise!! Go on another cruise line, not one geared for children if you don't want to be bothered by children. Just my opinion!!

We go on Disney cruises with no kids. I think we are not complaint about the kids per se, but the parents who think it's okay for the kids to bang on every stateroom door because they're on vacation. Or who let their kids run around the dining room during meal time.

Someone else mentioned kids wearing diapers in the pool. Mine is parents letting their kids swim without one knowing full well they aren't fully potty trained and then an "accident" happens.

Funny that you should say that...

Not specifically cruise ship (perhaps more park), but my pet peeve is when children, or their parents, believe that they are entitled to stand in front of people who have been staking out their spot for hours just because they're kids. Sure, it is nice if someone offers for a late coming child to stand in front of them or kneels down so that they can see, but I find it completely self-centered when a child just pushes their way to the front of a crowd (or their parents push their child in front of people). If you want a good spot for the parade, arrive early and wait for it. Just because someone is adult doesn't mean that they aren't deserving of a front row seat.

r.

Agreed! I have twin eight year olds, I am a big guy, but I pretty much sprint from the muster drill to deck 10 so my girls get an up front spot for the sail away party. Last Halloween at Disneyland, I gave up 3 hours in the park so my girls would have an awesome spot for the parade and fireworks. A few minutes before hand, a giant family expects me to let their kids move up front and move mine over so they can watch. Same things has happened at World of Color, in my favorite viewing spot outside Ariels Grotto.

NO! I put in the time and effort to get this great spot, you were out enjoying the park....

::yes::
As an adult, I can empathize with the obstruction when a child is sitting on an adult's shoulder. As a parent, I can sympathize that a young child's view in a sea of 5-6 ft tall adults is little more than buttocks. What adults see is a kid in front of them. What a kid see is a sea of rear ends, and I think it's easy for adults to forget what that must be like. An adult can still lean side to side to get somewhat of a view. A kid leans and all he/she sees is just someone else's butt. Sadly, they don't have much of an option.

Yes, they do, their parents can plan better. I know that sounds very harsh, but it is true. Dont get to the sail away party two minutes before it starts and expect your three year old to be able to see.

Sorry, this has nothing to do with actual cruising, but my BIGGEST pet peeve is those people who post their dirty laundry on the forums and then get mad at people who disagree with their whining. Seriously you start out your post I will never cruise with xyz cruise line again because they didn't kiss my butt to my liking. Then they explain what happened and several people think that it is them in the wrong and they get mad and verbally attack those people who didn't agree with them. There are thousands of people on these forums and not everyone is going to agree with you. If you don't want my opinion than don't put it on a public forum and contact xyz in private.

Sorry had to vent

Julie

SO true. I had that a lot on a parents/moms board I was on. I finally got banned, people would post long diatribes and I would have the audacity to disagree with the. I would often get "I just came here for support and you are attacking me! I just wanted hugs!" Um, you posted on an internet message board, I have the right to politely and respectfully disagree with you.

My pet peeve is when others request certain servers or dining rotation. Because for me as a first time cruiser, I feel like I may not get the server or rotation that would be top notch.
Why not let DCL assign? That's how it should be! It seems that there are cruisers that think they deserve better treatment than others.

I requested a serving team before my first cruise. I did a ton of reading on here, PM'd previous cruisers, found a great team. Put in the request, ended up only get half of the team, but had a great cruise. I do not think I deserve anything better than anyone, but if I get something better than someone who just shows up and doesn't put ten minutes of time into planning their cruise, that is just life.

I really do not understand the fact that I put in some extra effort, you chose not to, and them maybe I get something better.... it is not fair. You probably put in the effort to exercise, I don't, and my belly is much more pooh sized that most. Is that not fair too?

Ok, time for my pet peeves. Feel free to disagree!

Those who bash first time posters for making odd / pointless first threads. So what?

Those who treat the cast members poorly, including showing up massively late for meals every night.

Show up 1 minute or after a show starts and thinking they will get a good seat or will sit together.

Those who judge other cruise lines they have never been on. I have had fantastic cruises on Carnival and Princess.

When you get called out for rude behavior in public, and suddenly you do not speak English.

Those who judge others not on their behavior, but how they look, what they wear, ECT. I would MUCH rather sit at dinner with a guy in a Who Farted? t shirt and sandals that is a polite, friendly person that some of the people in suits and ties who act like their S doesn't stink and treat the CM's like slaves.

The CM who tells me the leave the ship the last day. How dare you?

The CM who hands me my KTTW card statement the last evening

The headache that my wife gets right as the kids fall asleep. :guilty:

The person who leaves his dirty laundry all over the cabin, he wears many of the same clothes I do. :rolleyes1

Posting a Facebook address on a meet thread. Kind of like going into a Kroger and posting the address of the local Safeway.

Also should apologize to those who do not appreciate my t-shirt in the pool. I was injured fighting a fire and have scars from my navel to my chest and 1/4 up my back - thought I was being polite in not making anyone uncomfortable by having to look at that.

Just out of curiosity why it is bothersome to you that people link a FB page here? People link all kinds of other addresses to other sites on other forums esp on the Budget Board but it also happens on the Transportation forum, the Disability forum, etc...
There are some things that the Dis had forbidden us from doing so we have to take it off of here. Hence the need to sometimes create another way to 'network'. I guess I don't understand why it would bother someone? Not trying to be snarky at all...just honestly trying to understand.

People who are miserable everywhere. Sort of like the people in this blog:

http://relentlesswandering.wordpress.com/2012/01/18/stateroom-12026-concierge-class-disney-dream/

I stumbled upon this while looking for reviews of concierge on the various Disney ship. I'd hate to have these people as dining partners. They complained about nearly everything.

That was the most enological trip report I've read in my life! What illogical, self entitled nimwhits! I don't let people like them bother me too much on vacation, but my hearts bleeds for the amazing staff that has to deal with people like them! :sad2:

Wow...I really didn't think people like this really existed. How does one function day to day when they look at the world this way.

I find it bothersome when a DIS cruise meet thread is basically hijacked to Facebook. There are those of us who don't "do" Facebook, and it essentially cuts us out of the group.

I don't mind if a few people on a DIS cruise meet want to "meet up" on Facebook and chat, but to handle all the "business" and plans for the group on Facebook really makes it NOT a DIS meet.

I will not do fb!!!! My meet thread was high jacked there. I feel like I missed out. I just feel fb causes too many problems in soooo many ways. Plus I don't have time!!!

:thumbsup2 That's all I'm sayin'.....

Ditto on the no Facebook "Dis" meets. I raised the same issue on my cruise meet, asking that the Dis meet please stay on the Disboards, too, but have been totally ignored. So no Dis cruise meet, FE on this cruise :sad:as I won't do Facebook for privacy reasons.

Okay fair enough.... but if they aren't calling it a Dis meet (and the ones I have been a part of weren't), then what are they really doing wrong? It is your right not to 'Do FB' just like it is others rights to participate in FB. There are limitations on here that are not on FB, and I can see why people choose to go to FB...esp when you are planning on meeting one another onboard anyway.
I am trying to discuss this reasonably and not argue it, but I don't see anything wrong with posting a link... you don't have to participate.... it is totally voluntary. And apparently the owners of DISBoards don't see a problem with it or they would not allow it.

And for the record the FB page I am running for our cruise was linked on a couple of different sites not just the Dis and it has a Name completely separate from the one on the thread here on the Dis. Our FE will be independent of the one here on the Dis. It was a way for people to maximize meeting fellow passengers IMO.

Wow! I was just saying that if we just went with what DCL assigned it would save us a lot of time. However , now I do spend my time researching about the cruise, that's why I am here on the forum everyday more than a year from my first EVER cruise! Because I don't want to miss any experience that DCL offers!
My pet peeve is I have to do this leg work because I know their are others out there who want the best experience too! We have left things to fate before and it's not always worth it!
I guess I should say my pet peeve is other people just like me!!!!! OBSESSED WITH DISNEY!!!

Based on comments in other posts, the swimwear in the above article is not as hygienic as a regular bathing suite. :confused3

Yeah, because random peeved commentors would be the expert on that, right? As both a religious woman and a "big" person, I find being described as "disgusting" pretty offensive. Hell, as a "big person", I've heard that comment plenty of times to describe my and other similar sized persons' existence. It's not okay in today's world to be an overweight person, particularly an overweight woman.

But now, it's not even okay for us to try to retain some dignity by covering up our flab at the pool. Or cover our bodies because we want to be modest, at any size. How...disgusting? :confused3:

Modest swimwear is made of the exact same material other swimwear is made of, and is no less clean, hygienic, water-worthy, whatever than those string bikinis worn by most pool-goers. It's a heck of a lot more sanitary than having babies poop in a pool, or your average kiddie peeing in it (or some adults...you know who you are). Pools request that you shower BEFORE going in the pool, but think about how many people you know who don't. But you want to pick on fatties and religious nuts, because they're different, right? :sad2:

You do NOT have to explain yourself to this DISer. .pixiedust: :)

Our DIS Meet thread here has had a few people introduced to the DIS by way of the FB site. There are a couple of Disney Cruise fan pages on FB that allow you to post links to individual cruises. I created our cruise page on FB, and put the link for other folks to find us. We've had a few people come join the DIS as a result. We post information on both sites so that any new people finding us have all the different ways to get in touch.

I totally understand the frustration of their being multiple conversations going on, and also not having time to do both.
