So far no one seems to be answering the poster’s question: Who is cancelling due to new CDC advisory? I hear a lot of folks cancelling or considering it because of potential closed ports, reduced activities, scaled back entertainment/kids programming/etc. But no one specially because of the CDC advisory. And I totally agree! Level 4 advisory same as traveling to Germany or Italy. And I would do that too. The cruise industry is going to take a beating in the press. They always do. We leave out on the Fantasy this Sunday Jan 2. Looking forward to it but prepared for it to be different. We have done 15+ Disney cruises. We can drive from NC and it’s just wife and I. Don’t really care too much about ports, and kids are grown. We are just hopeful for the Disney experience. I will take my chances on a half full ship run by Disney, with fully vaxxed population, that was tested before boarding. Where is the CDC advisory for going to a Knick game, out to dinner at a crowded restaurant, on a 6 hour cross country flight, packed into a subway train car, etc where none of the vaccine or testing protocols are in place. Wish us luck Sunday. We will report back.
I have answered the original question. We ABSOLUTELY cancelled 4 of 5 staterooms due to the CDC advisory. 100%. Given that we had children that were not fully vaccinated, the fact that there are outbreaks on the ship - as assessed by the CDC -- meant we were not prepared to accept the risk to our grandchildren. My husband and I are triple vaccinated, so we are going and are prepared to accept the risks associated with the travel from Canada as well as the cruise.

Looks like thrice denied for our Italy/Greece cruise is coming right up. Sad, sad, sad. I wouldn't cruise right now. Not due to the CDC, but for all the other things everyone has mentioned. Unfortunatley there is nowhere in the world any of us can go right now to escape the stress of all this. Well, maybe deep into the woods-lol. I could really use a vacation/break. :(

Wisconsin is fine so come on out.

We have the waterpark capital of the world with a number of resorts with large and multiple indoor water park areas.

We also have a ice sculpture event with artists from around the world in a different city as well.

We’ll postpone but not just because of that. We have to travel to the US. We are currently under lockdown (this variant spreads so fast, it is actually scary) Predictions say Omicron will be peaking in the US at the exact time of our cruise, making our chances to test positive and then getting stuck out of Canada for many days just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I love cruising and I deeply miss it but we won’t risk losing jobs over it.
Completely understand. If I had to travel to another country I would probably rethink my trip.

Interesting as I read through the variety of sail dates. We canceled a January 3 cruise, others are reporting on cruises much more distant.

We were to leave today to spend two days at WDW precruise. Just checked and saw that our Newark to Orlando flight was canceled due to crew shortages.

We are not cancelling our Hawaii cruise. Hoping until the bitter end it sails.

I’m VERY jealous of all you FL folks and those who live within a short day driving distance of ports. I’d be jumping on all those GTY rates and doing a 3/4night cruise every couple of weeks. We are boosted and not scared of Covid - just nervous of flying in.

So if I cancel this Saturday's cruise we can sail through May of 2023? How does that work with the 14 day policy? Any conflict?
Note: I just read the updated DCL website with the new flexible cancellation policy. Reschedule cruises with sail date before May 31, 2022 to before May 31, 2023.

You can reschedule to any cruise (except the wish) up through may 2023 as I understand it

the 14 day policy is another layer and allows you a full refund back if you have a covid related reason, they dont ask for proof of reason.

I am scheduled on that same cruise and would like to move it or apply the $ to our August cruise. Did Disney work with you or were there cancellation penalties?
Note: I just read the updated DCL website with the new flexible cancellation policy. Reschedule cruises with sail date before May 31, 2022 to before May 31, 2023. If you are within 60 cancellation policy for your type of room, then you can get a refund.

Man! If I'd just waited a day!!

In terms of moving it, it had to be to a NEW cruise, not one I already had booked. But moving it had no penalties. I'm ending up with $400ish OBC because I was already PIF (obviously) and I opted to do a GTY on the Wish which was less than I'd paid.

Have they made it ANY Wish? Yesterday morning - before they changed to May 2023 anyway - the only exclusion was the Wish MAIDEN. I was able to change to a 3-night Wish in August.

We're actually about to book a trip for April. Based on past surges/waves and the data so far on this one, our hope is that we'll be back in a low period. Hopefully April will be a down time. The bigger worry is what it will look like in February when the final payment is due.

This is our thinking as well....to travel in that timeframe....April-June. For us it will likely be May or June of this year and right now we're leaning towards a week at One&Only Palmilla in San Jose del Cabo. It's an open and airy resort with plenty of outdoor dining options.....even the spa has treatment rooms that can be completely open to air. We've been to Esperanza in that area, and it's the same kind of feel/quality....and we believe we'd feel safe there.

We won't cruise, but if we were to cruise, the CDC wouldn't factor into our decision....just common sense and/or what we're willing to risk or lose on a vacation when so many things can go wrong, or be greatly altered. Cruising in January or February is going to be a real crap shoot. Same with international travel. There will be major disruption with domestic flights this winter as well....count on it.

But....we're going to take the leap this spring....and I'm hoping by then we're in a very different place with respect to restrictions/testing...etc. Good luck to those traveling soon....stay safe!

Maybe I will end up with a 3rd non planned cruise hahaha

If people start cancelling and discounts happen around spring break I could see signing up for another cruise.
This is what I did. I had wanted to cruise over spring break but they were all overpriced. A few days ago I saw GT rates for the Fantasy over spring break and nabbed a reasonably priced IGT. Looking forward to a nice week long cruise over my holiday.

We're still trying to figure out the right thing to do. We've got a Wonder B2B concierge in April. Our last complete sailing was the '19 EBPC, right before all this crap happened (plus four cancellations after that) so we were really primed to go. Up until mid-December we were 100% committed to going, even with the latest news. But 2 weeks ago, DW was diagnosed with cancer. No chemo is scheduled but, since then, we've been changing our minds on what to do every other hour. If DCL would fill in the 5 blank months for late fall for the Wonder (another EBPC?) we'd switch in a heartbeat. But changing for anything less than a 10-day isn't really worth the effort.

I am so sorry to hear about your wife...sending thoughts and prayers your way.

This is us. I booked us on the Wonder in April simply because we do not have to fly. Ohhh if
we lived in Florida how nice to drive to the port and not deal with crowded airports and planes
before you get tested to cruise.

But you are still capable of making others sick, and preventing others from getting sick is what the protocols are all about.
I didn't comment on protocols. I said I'm looking forward to my cruise, and am not scared of Omicron, which is the mildest version of Covid so far. I'm in much more danger of getting Covid at work (elementary school teacher with 21 students in my in-person classroom, and of course they're not all vaccinated) than on any trip. I'm going to rapid test the day before sailing to lessen the chance of traveling to port only to test positive at that time. If I test positive at port, oh well. I'll take my refund and book another cruise for later on. Not sitting at home for a year to avoid the possibility of testing positive at port. Already triple vaccinated & I always follow places' Covid rules- I've done my fair share for the public good and am ready to enjoy my cruise, which I have every right to do.

No argument there. But follow the protocols so you increase the odds that you and those around you stay safe.

This thread isn't about following or not following protocols. It's about whether or not people want to take the risk of cruising at this time. So your admonition to follow protocols is pretty random and uncalled for.

Come on man. You're the one that always mentions about following the mods rules and not to get into Covid arguments so they don't shut down the thread. :confused3

Is the word protocols off limits now too?
