Yes, Dumbo fell far short of expectations. Plenty of articles about its underwhelming performance online. I’m glad you enjoyed it, though! 👍

I refuse to see any Disney remakes of animated classics or films like Mary Poppins ( yeah, yeah I know it was a sequel) . Absolutely no interest. I caught bits and pieces of Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella on broadcast TV... yuck!

I didn't see them either; same thing - no interest. My only child is a boy (man now) and he was never into the Princesses much, although Mulan was one of his favorite movies - it came out when he was 2. I almost always only go to Disney movies with him now - it's kind of our thing. :goodvibes

They will probably stick to the animated version but I think it would be fun to have both. Sky's the limit! I do watch ALL of the Disney movies that come out and think it would be neat if she had her own spot or added to a character breakfast. Although, the breakfast might actually be problematic. I have read some pretty hateful comments on facebook/twitter/elsewhere and wouldn't put it past some (adult most likely) to say something horrifying to her.

I did very much appreciate Disney's response to all of the drama. (they did it via their freeform account on twitter)

I couldn't vote because I would say both.

Ok, so I will answer the question then:

I don't think it's realistic from a park strategy point of view. The ride is only a few years old, so it's not like it needs to be updated. Changing the obviously animated looking animatronics with more human-like versions would be costly and time consuming. Plus redoing all of the backgrounds and voices? Basically you'd be replacing the entire attraction.

Yeah, I don't see how you could replace the ride. Its based on the cartoon. It would probably be very expensive and people love the animated version.

 I don't follow much social media - can you tell me what Disney's position was? TIA.

Conversation has never hurt anyone

Racists have

They’re also incapable of intelligent thinking

But at least they always make themselves obvious.

Wanting a storybook character to remain true to its original first visual form (or descriptive written form) it not being racist at all. People who claim it is has no concept of what racism actually IS and therefore undermine any progress being made against it.

I thought it was fun, to the point and pretty sharp at the end. View attachment 414955

Then I look forward to seeing the Hispanic Tiana, the white Moana, and the Asian Merida. You do support that, right?

I didn't spend a single $ on Beauty and the Beast because of all the gay hoopla (I don't care if there are gay characters but I don't need it crammed down my throat - if something has to be singled out it probably means it isn't worth noticing on ones own), I will not spend a single other $ on POTC because of the removal of Johnny Depp and the replacement of a woman because "omg empower" (Im so sick of that schtick), I will not spend a single $ on The Little Mermaid because of Disney changing her race (but refused to change the race of the Aladdin characters). If Disney is truly trying to be inclusive, then lets see if ANY of the other racial characters (Moana, Pocahontas, Elaina, Esmerelda to name a few) are changed to a different race. It won't happen. The target is only aimed at one gruop.

Or, and just hear me out, they replaced JD because he beat up his wife. I’m just spitballing here..

oookkk

As I said.

You do know the difference in changing a half fish’s race and that of the three you mention? I mean were there many Asian Scottish during the time of Merida? Or white Islanders? And while there are many of any race in New Orleans, I believe Tiana’s race was a part of the story being told. Ariel’s was not.

I like Disney’s answer very much. I also think caring so much about the skin color of a half fish is as ridiculous as the complaining that went on about Will Smith being blue or not.

You do know that he didn’t, right?

And last I read the POC movie may not go forward anyway.

If I knew that, I wouldn’t have posted it, right?

I don’t pay attention to anything to do with him so I don’t know, or care, how it all played out.

As I said before, the casting decision is not the focus of the discussion, so I hope more references/arguments about it stop. I would hate for the thread to close because of another heated discussion. Also apologies to those who wanted to vote for both in the poll. I honestly forgot to include it but thanks for responding with answers anyway. :disrocks:
