Can we get a poker game going onboard the Magic? Will he be allowed to sit at a table and play? DH is thinking of playing with a DISer's DH and wanted to make sure this was ok.

Now we're talking!

:bounce:

I guess that there are really 3 questions here:

1) Is it legal?
2) Does it violate DCL rules?
3) Does it violate common rules decorum and good taste?

I think the answers are as follows:

1) If you are playing in port, you might be violating the local laws. In international waters, it is (I think) legal. In most states, it is legal to have friendly poker games where there is no rake (the house taking a bit from each pot) or other profit for the organizer of the game.

2) Don't know - - don't see why it would, unless there are some general rules about conduct in general that someone might want to apply.

3) A tougher question - - and one that is probably closely related to #2 above. Poker is gambling, of course. To my knowledge, it is the only game where betting is a prerequisite. IMHO, it would be in bad taste to play a cash on the table game. But, that is why some genius invented poker chips! I don't think anyone would have a problem with it.

I'm on the 8/17 sailing of the Magic - - when are you going. Anyone going on the 8/17 interested in a game - - I can bring the chips, but I would want to play at night and only briefly so as not to be away from my family for long - - that is the purpose of the trip, after all!

:jester:

If you play in your stateroom, they won't know or care. If you want to play in a public area, and are not gambling for money (use chips or chocolate coins or something of negligible value like that) they probably won't care. If you are gambling with cash, I think it will be a problem for a variety of reasons.

I don't have the answer to your question but it reminded me of somthing funny.....I was in one of the elevators on the magic by myself and group of teens came in (4 guys and 1 girl) and the girl was talking about how two of them were playing STRIP poker with a couple of the other guys on the ship, she was telling it to the other guys in thier group....so there was 1 girl and at least 3 guys playing strip poker.....She said she won....LOL

Nice story StaceyA. As you say, LOL. It's nice to see somethings never change. That teens will always be teens, even on the Disney "Magic." And that males of all ages continue to underestimate the card playing ability of the so called "weaker" sex. Did she say what she won? As that is a game I would like to sit in on, if I was years younger. Of course, I doubt if the results would be any different, as the last time I played poker was in the 5th grade. Straight poker. Not the other kind.

Nope she didn't say what she won, they were still talking about it when they got off the elevator though...I guess seeing the guys lose was enough winning for her....lol
