From the Cast Portal:

Disney's Port Orleans Resort French Quarter will reopen to Guests on March 21. The resort underwent both Guest room and landscaping refurbishments designed to enhance the overall elegance of the resort.

Cast Members who worked temporarily in other resorts will return to Disney's Port Orleans Resort beginning on Feb. 8.

Disney's Port Orleans Resort Riverside also will remain open while a phased renovation continues in that region of the resort.

I found this on another board and then called to confirm- it's true!!!! I'll be calling to make my ressies for our Thanksgiving trip tonight- after the kids are in bed :) !!!!

I'll be calling this weekend to change my ressies from POR to POFQ for our June trip!!!

Our 'surprise' return to Disney and FQ, from our last trip in Oct. 2001. DS has been asking about when we can go back to the 'snake slide hotel.'

Yippee!!

Thanks for the heads up!

POFQ is our absolute favorite resort. I'm hoping for a girls only trip with pals in early fall.

Disney to reopen part of Port Orleans Resort

Walt Disney World said today it plans to reopen the 1,080-room French Quarter section of its rambling Port Orleans Resort midway through the crucial spring break travel season.

The New Orleans-theme French Quarter will reopen March 21. Disney began taking reservations today.

Disney closed the French Quarter in early May as part of a two-year renovation of Port Orleans, which includes the 2,048-room Riverside section.

Riverside has remained opened but is being renovated in phases, spokeswoman Rena Langley said.

Improvements to both sections include the installation of new carpeting, furniture and bathroom fixtures, she said.

The French Quarter opened in 1991. Riverside, originally a separate hotel called Dixie Landings, followed in 1992. The adjacent hotels were merged four years ago.

Has anyone called and confirmed this. I tried to make reservations for that hotel last night for THAT weekend and was told they did not think it would be opened for another year. (Which I was totally shocked about)

I have!!! I called about half hour ago and switched our POR ressies for July over to POFQ. She read me the "bulletin" she had received about it, so they do know about it now!!! So, call!!

I just made my ressies for Thanksgiving week. THe first CM I spoke with said she could not make resservations until tomorrow. I called back and that cm made the reservations for me. Can't wait!!!!

That is great news, I would like to stay at the FQ for our trip in June. I have reservations at the POR, I wonder how many parts will be closed at one time. I think that I will wait to change my reservations just in case they relocate some of the guests.

Oh, I just adore PO-FQ. Thanks for the news. For my next WDW vacation, I have a few days without a resort room. I think I just found out how to fill them.

tink2, Thanks so much for your post! I , too, absolutely love POFQ. :bounce:

We're thinking about a 3 day cruise on Dec 16 and then 4 days at Disney Dec19 - 23. I tried to check out pricing online and POFQ still not listed there. I'll wait a few more days.

Yes, that was one of the big reasons for doing the rehab. They wanted to make the rooms more accomodating for families of 5.

What kinds of rates are y'all getting - I want to take my nieces on a girls only trip sometime this year. I am sure I'll only be able to afford a moderate and I've always wanted to stay at POFQ. This is exciting!!!

Re: family of 5 at POFQ

I just called and spoke to a CM in reservations and the reservation is only showing 2 double beds with no trundle bed option. So it's still a maximum of 4 guests per room. I would have switched our reservations to POFQ if possible.

With two double beds and a trundle, wouldn't that be 5 people able to accomodated, are do you mean adults? (I know that trundle is kind of small)

And yes Gardendame, you have my permission to switch your resie;)

Okay,
I'm confused. Yes or no on the trundle beds at FQ? My tribe of 5 is booked at Riverside for June. Can 5 stay at French Quarter?

Can the Riverside guest use the French Quarter Pool? My 9 year old loves the pictures of the dragon waterslide.
Thanks,
Jim

I too was told max 4 to a room. We have 5 so I booked 2 rooms. I was going to have 1 room at the beach club for the same $$, but I prefer the extra room at a moderate than the deluxe amenities. As long as I have a nice room & nice pool with hot tub I am happy. I dont need a sit down restaurant, room service etc.:smooth: :jester: :jester: :jester: :jester:

Yea!!! I just called and switched ours from CBR and still got the AP rate.
