Can adults use the slide? I know the sign says good swimmers only but can I go down the slide with my 3 year old? (He will be in a floatation vest)

You sure can. My dh went down the slide with our 3 yr old last trip. Lots of parents were doing the same thing. He had on the swim vest.

Great! We are going to have a blast, I'm sure- we just booked POFQ-for 3 nights- for a surprise trip for our 3 kids in June- I am so excited!!!
We are on a tight budget so we want to spend alot of time at the pool.

We just got home last night from POFQ and my 3 year old did the slide and she can't swim. You can't hold her but DH went to the top and put her down and I caught her at the bottom. They do provide life vest and she wore that and everything was fine. Enjoy and do the slide. That was my 3 year old favorite thing.

I wonder if that's a new rule? (Not being allowed to hold them on the slide.) Because that's exactly what my dh and the others parents were doing...held the child on their laps. The lifeguard was sitting right next to the slide watching everyone. Maybe it depends on the lifeguard on duty?? hmm

I don't know about the rules, but I used to be a lifeguard (not at Disney), and I can tell you that sliding down the slide with your child is one of the most dangerous things you can do at a pool (short of diving in the shallow end). Among the things that can happen is that one person can push the other down into the bottom of the pool which can cause very serious injuries. Even if the lifeguards are allowing you to slide down with your child, *please* consider not doing it, and catching them at the bottom-- it's much safer (where I worked, we always had a guard at the bottom of the slide in the event someone couldn't swim well)!!!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

CheapMom, I'm in Odenton which is in Anne Arundel County. It's about halfway between Baltimore and D.C. What county is Sparks in? :)

StitchGirl, I think we were being totally safe, but I do appreciate the advice. :)

Thanks for the warning StitchGirl! I hadn't even thought about the danger in sliding double!

Cheapmom,
When are you going to be at POFQ? I've noticed your id several times on the board lately.

We're in Eldersburg - not too far from Sparks and will be in POFQ starting Sunday.

HOHJA

HOHJA- we are going June 16 (after the last day of school) we are actually staying at Hilton DD 2 nights (business conference for DH) then over to POFQ for 3 more nights. We have friends in both Eldersburg and Odenton!
It was the business conference that was the catalyst for the trip- husband gets free airfare and the 2 nights at the Hilton is free. We couldn't resist making a family trip of it. I am picking up the kids from school and going straight to the airport where we will reveal the surprise. It is going to be a riot.
I will heed that warning about the slide- thanks for the advice.

Oh BTW- I am getting a countdown counter for this trip because the kids might see it- they surf the Dis boards with me alot.

My DS (3) at the time loved that slide!!. He went down it over and over again. Just his speed. Still talks about it. He was wearing his vest at the time, and was not afraid at all. My older DS's loved the Poly slide which was always too crazy for our youngest. You will have a great time.

I'm thinking about staying at POFQ with my 4yo son this fall (I'm leaving the rest of the family at home). Glad to know that the slide is good for little kids and that they have life vests.

BTW, I'm from Maryland, also (Montgomery Village near Gaithersburg), but I haven't heard of Odenton, Sparks, or Eldersburg. I guess I need to get out more! :teeth:

Does anyone know how deep the water is at the bottom of the slide?

Tigger&Belle-I know where you are. My dh grew up in Germantown, his parents are still there. My grandma lives in Kensington.

pigby-It's 3.5 feet at the bottom of the slide I believe. I'll pm you a link to a photo that shows it. :)

I bet that Germantown has really changed a lot since your husband was growing up. I know that it's changed a lot in the last 12 years that we've lived here. Of course the whole area has changed.

Yes, we just returned on Monday and dlrhine is right, the lifeguard kept saying "Only one at a time on the slide please" over and over again. I'm sure your children will be fine with the lifevests on. My kids loved the slide (and so did my husband)!!

I'm so happy to read of all the little ones who enjoy that slide! DD will be just about 3 when we go next year. I had originally planned to stay at WL but with two trips in the works now I think the budget will only allow for moderates, I'm thinking of POFQ for DD and CSR for the boys.

My 23 month old DD loved the slide. She wore a life vest. Of course, she loved the CSR jaguar slide and the BB slides ... She wants to do anything her big sisters do.
