There is good and bad to the CC route. I have to say I am sooo glad I didn't do that. There are many life lessons in those first two years away at college. If money isn't an issue, then I would SERIOUSLY consider four years at one university. And I know a great university with an awesome academic program, research facilities and I think its athletic programs are pretty well known. :rolleyes1

In order to get any scholarships at all, he'll have to do some great things with his grades this year (junior year) and the first semester of his senior year. Also, he hasn't played sports, etc and just doesn't really know what he wants to do. And there will likely be some overlap between him and his older sister at college, which will financially won't be fun. :scared: But if he gets it together we'll make it work, but it's a matter of him getting it together... :)

That cake is too gross for me.

Litebrite--so you do piano lessons all summer too? DDs teacher stops over the summer. Of course, I think we are firing DDs teacher anyway so it really doesn't matter. I just don't think DD made any progress last year and the teacher does NOT hold her accountable at all. She also seems to be squelching DDs creativity. The girl could be quite a musician given the right leading. I need to find someone who is a better fit. And then the recital really pushed me over the edge......

Imsorry--I like the curtains, but like the floors even more.

Bonnie--what happened to your beautiful little girls? They are not in your siggin anymore--how come?

Ahh the old getting it together...my future was drilled into my head as a young girl. I figured my dad would haunt me if I didn't fullfil his goals for me. :rotfl2: That was motivation enough. :thumbsup2

I hope your DS pulls it together. Maybe I should tell him what he has to look forward to, if he does. :smooth:

Hi disneymom3--I am still messing with my siggy. I want to put a different pic of the girls in, but I was having a little trub. My computer is being mean.

Aimee, how old are your girls? They look about my kids' ages: 12, 9 and almost 5.

This is my "marches to the beat of a different drummer" kid. He has a big heart, though, and is so creative. Very unlike me (well, I have the heart, just not the least bit creative). I still have my high achieving baseball player 3 years behind him, so that will be a totally different experience. And then Jake quite awhile after that. My son, who is going to be an 8th grader is already thinking about colleges, but it's usually based on what college has a good baseball program, so this year it's Oregon State.

I'm back from an uneventful afternoon at swimming lessons and a trip to Target. Sorry about the horrible mood, I should have sent myself into the corner for a timeout :p .
Shug, the cake is simply marvelous! It reminds me of a party that DH and I attended for Halloween. Everyone was assigned to bring a dessert and every year the guys would try to outdo eachother with the gross out factor. We were guests of one of the guests, so we didnt actual take part in the creative dessert planning of the event. The winner that year went and bought a brand new full size toliet and filled in with yellow jello and assorted candy bars. My DH still speaks of that party in the hushed tones of complete awe and inspiration :rotfl: .

I was just like that as a kid. My Mom says that when I was about 3, she would sit down with me if we were going somewhere and explain what was expected of me. She would say, "you can't do this and you can't touch that" and I would answer back, "and I really shouldn't do that and its not good to do this". And the kicker was I actually followed those rules, it never even occured to me to break them, I didn't want to disappoint my parents. My Dad sat me down in 6th grade and said keep your grades high and be good, and that was that. Sometimes I wish I could have been a little more free spirited when it didnt matter so much.

It's amazing how different kids that are raised in the same family can be. Alot of those kids that march to a different beat end up being the most successful adults. People tend to flock to someone that has enough confidence to be themselves no matter what. I bet that your son will accomplish great things, it just might be in a unorthodox way.

I always say that all 4 of my kids are polar extremes, which sounds pretty impossible. :rotfl: They really are very different and if a person didn't know better they'd think that they were adopted because it's hard to believe that they all 4 have the same parents. My 2 middle kids (the 12 and 15yo boys) really are opposites in just about every way. My college DD is in her own princess world and Jake is his own case study. ;) I don't think that any of it is an accident, however. It's how they all stand out.

Hey T&B. Today was stinkin' HOT here! The weather guy said this would be the hottest week in 5 years. I see what you guys meant about the humidity. The A/C is broken in my car so it really sucked driving around today. Still not as bad as Vegas though!

Hi redshoes! :wave2: What color are your shoes today?

Shug, how in the world did you get a pic of our kitty's litter box? :rotfl2:

That is the coolest, yet grossest (is that a word? Sure looks wrong :confused3 ) cake I have ever seen! I thought the Armadillo cake in "Steel Magnoias" was bad but oh my gosh!!!

Hi everyone!! Reading the posts of the day... trying to catch up. I must say Auntie IM your new curtains and your HOUSE is gorgeous! :thumbsup2

Ok, any of you ladies take Estroven? The Dr. suggested it since I've had trouble sleeping lately and I slept pretty good but man was I tried today... yawning all day, people were offended!

Ok, going to read posts.... :surfweb:

Have you guys seen this? A Princess Cruise ship listed upon departure and lots of people are injured? Princess Cruise

My prayers to everyone on ship... how incredibly scary!!! :grouphug:

I think I need to go for a swim!! Then I will catch up! ;)

Yeah, I teach through the summer. For one thing, I think the students forget too much when they take that much time off, but the real reason is I need the money. In all the 15 + years I've been teaching, I've only ever had a couple of students who insisted on taking the summer off, and it wasn't a good thing. They were both sort of borderline cases, and didn't last too long after coming back before they quit lessons altogether. Not to say it would always turn out like that, but in these cases, the kids just lost the steam they needed to achieve real success.

I worn the world's ugliest flip flops today :) . They are black with some stupid bumble bee on them (can you tell that they are my favorite pair of shoes). I was running late and they were waiting at the door for me (hmm, maybe I need to find out how they got there today).
I'm sorry that your AC went out on your car today. It's hot, hot, hot here today too. I hate it when I spend enough time to look cute and then I sweat like a little piggy and ruin all my hard work.

I took a Psych. class in college that was all about child development and one of the theories was that each sibling creates their own niche in a family, so if you already have a leader than that's their niche and the other children during their younger years will respect that role and not try to overtake that sibling's role in the family and it continues through adulthood. Probably just some out of touch theory but interesting at least.
