Rebecca and I went out for our last minute gifts today. On the way I told her about my job, she was silent, I choked back tears. We both sat silent for what seemed like an eternity.
I turned down the music and said "hey chatter box, your silence is deafening"
she spoke with a crackling voice saying "mom, I am so sorry, I don't know what to say"
I said I understood and we continued in the horrible traffic. I would let people merge, slow down to let someone in and always smile and wave. Vow of jolly you know
I wished everyone that checked me out a Merry Christmas, they were surprised and wished it back.
I held doors for people, and wasn't even bothered when they didn't even acknowledge me.
Knowing the next storm is coming we went to the store and bought baking stuff for tomorrow, we haven't baked in years!
And as we drove home, she turned down the radio, and said she admires me, she is proud of me, and that we will get through this, even offered to not go to the formal.
As we walked in, M was there with the biggest smile, and she asked him if he was going to have to work more. My heart sank, and without missing a beat, or a waiver in his smile, he said "honey with you I always have to work more" and we all laughed.
She looked at him and whispered, yes I heard, "Mom still has her vow of jolly, guess we better as well huh"
M looked at her and said "now more then ever halfpint"
I walked back to the car, we were unloading it, and said a prayer, to please never forget this moment, never let me forget how they lifted me up.
Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays friends
